Well I learnt that putting a hoped for prediction on here first doesn't half ramp up the pressure! The first 15 mins were surprisingly hard, the second 15 unsurprisingly were much, much harder. Was counting down strokes at the end and just crept under my 1.50.0 target. Lowest piece 4,095m.

1. 4095m 1.49.8
2. 4100m 1.47.7

There must be better ways to celebrate my 52nd birthday

Inspired by the idea of having a little chance for once to catch a seat in front of Erik Image I gave it full throttle this morning. Seems that My good flow continues Image

First: 4060m @1:50.8 26spm
Second: 4062m @1:50.7 26spm

The second run is the toughest, but the marker from first run helps to push the limits.

So now I better relax for a few days with light 10k for the mad challenge in the hope to get 25 this month, while waiting for Erik, haaico et.al. to show me my spot ;-) Enjoy!

Nice, some great scores early on, this is going to be a competitive month all round I think.

Paul V, next mark for you to chase ....

I'm hopeful of going under 2:00 before month end, but its clear my base fitness still has a long way to go

3604 and then 3610. I rowed the first 15 with a capped HR at 166 and then tried to match the distance in the second 15. That was the only way I could think to pace things given I am so far off my normal pace at the moment. Not great times, but at least I have a score in the bank. I may get a small imprvement by the end of the month, but I'm not imagining it is going to be very different to this. :(

Hello,

congrats to all finishers, really some kind of a change after all the sprints :o

and sorry for the late respond, i am very busy these days, changed my job- so very positive: no more night-shifts :P , but more to do in the day-time,
had my first go on friday...a littlebit cautious, but it went well- like my plan: a 1:55 split for both 15min

Just scheduled a row for todays lunch break- but felt a bit dizzy- and only did a 5k row for the mud season madness,

with my new job there is now a different possible time to row- in the lunch breaks- so i intent to use row pro again more frequently-perhaps someone will join in the near future

the splits:

Hysterical first attempt (appropriate in all senses). Really should have heeded the advice above, as I fully recognise pacing at 6km would likely have been ideal.

As it was, went out waaaay too fast, and suffered for the tail end of the first and all the second. Live and learn ImageImage

#-o Claudius, leaving night shifts behind will reap dividends over the next few months. I stopped working nights last May and have found training much more predictable (energy levels were so variable)!

I don’t know what my current 5K or 6K time is, so goal pace was based on a session from last week, 2*12mins / 2m rest (averaged 1:48.5/500)

4142 1:48.6. 28. 169 (probably should have headed HR going 5 higher than the above 12min first rep of 164)
4083 1:50.2. 30. 176 Handled down about 750m in #-o

Picked the handle back up, but splits had dropped to 1:51.1 within a few seconds ... decided it had to be finished to lay down a marker.
Heart rate up higher than I have in a long time, so satisfied with the finish.

Will have another go setting goal pace of 1:48.9, and adding a little MTFU

Good luck those to try again ... or the first time

Second attempt for me today. I tried to keep the split at just under 2:00 pace and managed to keep it there or thereabouts. Fairly even split, so I probably got the pacing about right.

Splits were as follows:

1 3778
2 3786

Had my first go tonight with a target pace of 1:56:

3904m / 1:55.2 / 29
3921m / 1:54.7 / 29

During the first rep I noticed that I could go a bit faster than 1:56 and focused on a predicted distance of 3900m instead. I managed that but of course there was the fear I had overcooked it and would pay for it in the second rep. Thankfully I was able to go quicker thus ensuring the score from rep #1.

Really interesting challenge, you make a promise in the first rep which you have to keep in the second one.

Great performance Peter. And you've hit the nail on the head - it's all about getting the pacing right on the first one. I was concerned that I had overcooked it on the first interval and I now wonder if I would have been capable of going faster on the second interval if I had done a faster first one.

Completely agree with the comments on the pacing. I expected to be able to row a 1:55 pace, and ended up with 3921 meters in the first rep, about 1:54.8. The second was relatively easy with that goal in mind, ended up with 3925m, and wondering what would have happened if I had gone a bit faster in the first 15 minutes.
Perhaps a second attempt later this month will bring the answer.

Hmmm, having written the lines above I take a look at my season's bests and see that my 30 min SB is faster than the pace I rowed now. That definitely means that there's work to be done the coming weeks ... Maybe next time I should take a look at that before I start rowing =P~

Very nice row Fred! =D> The way you describe it makes it look rather relaxed whereas my row was a near death experience, so I think youβ€˜re more than safe from my side.

Had my 2nd go yesterday- the good vibration here about this middle-distance ctc infected me also- so better infected by this as from this flu wave surrounding me...really seeing some great results here- congrats to all. Yes i hope leaving night shifts behind will have a bit of a benefit in my training...but i dont know the direction- taking part here since 2 years- and it is the only competition- if we want to call the ctc that way- i do. Considering to become a lightwight again- but the scale says no- still 83...to much away from it...and for what purpose...rowing for health and fitness- thats it...the ctc and all of you are a big help- thank you very much ! Now, enough of words, the splits:
