March ctc - 2 x 15 min / 3'r, static starts, the slower to count
Hi all,
literally in the last minute Row Pro Rowers announced the March ctc:
"MARCH 2018 – The RowPro Tactical Double
This challenge was chosen by The RowPro Rowers Team
Row for 15 minutes two times
With 3 minutes rest between each rep
Start each 15 minute row from a standing start.
Record the distance rowed for the slowest of your 15 minute rows.
So you can’t do one easy and one hard. You need best effort for both"
I think I like this one, no more sprinty stuff

Looks like a good 'core' type training session to me.
Possibly one that can be repeated throughout the month ...

And with a warm up and cool down, an ideal companion for the Mud Season Madness which also starts tomorrow.

Re: March ctc - 2 x 15 min / 3'r, static starts, the slower to count
So the first 2 entries are in on the CTC website, and they're both Free Spirits
Sheena and myself started our 10k Mud Season Madness with doing this month's CTC + warmup and cool down.
Didn't quite know how to pace them, so I took it too easy on the first 15min (and then could take it easy on the 2nd as well ). Sheena did it the other way around, going off too quick on the 1st 15min and then paying the price in the 2nd one.
We'll definitely try this one again a few times, and may eventually get it right Being virtually snowed in in our village helps
Good luck to everyone, and let's see if we can get the first boat floated!

Any thoughts on pacing for this? Somewhere around 6k pace, perhaps? Or maybe a second or two slower?

6k pace sounds about right. Sheena tried to go quicker than that and was OK in the first rep but not the second, and I decided to go slower and found that I could have gone quicker.

Re: March ctc - 2 x 15 min / 3'r, static starts, the slower to count
As this month's challenge fits closer to my current training I'm thinking of giving it an early go over the weekend. Based on my best relevant times over the past 3 months (see below) I'll aim for a nice round pace of 1.50.0. The first 15 mins should be fine it's the 2nd I'm worried about!
Unfortunately I've not done a 6k but my planned pace is 2k plus 6 seconds or 5k plus 1 second...
2k = 6.55.4 @ 1.43.8. 15 mins at 1.50.0 is 4,091m so Paul's Law looks OK.
5k = 18.11.0 @1.49.1
3 x 12 mins = 1.49.8 with 3 mins rest between sets
30 mins = 1.53.0 rate restricted to 24spm

Re: March ctc - 2 x 15 min / 3'r, static starts, the slower to count
I decided to have a go at this today and targeted 2:05 pace. I kept pretty much on pace for the first interval and sprinted towards the end to get to 3619m @2:04.3 pace. Then I went back into the house to get something and was slightly distracted by someone arriving home, but thought I had plenty of time to get back before the three minutes rest period was over. Unfortunately, the timer was showing 14:44 when I got back to the erg, so I threw my hat at it.
I'll try again later in the week.

Had a first go at this and had 3815m in the first 15min but then got a call and missed the start on the second go and only made 3570m in the second.
Well it is a start and the first boat is floating

3801m and 3827m - pretty much all out for me (although my legs were knackered before I finished the warm up so there's more there potentially if I choose to deploy).

3396m and 3398m. Guessed right. 2.7s slower pace than last season’s 30’. But at least I’ve built volume back up finally. Got in 90km in the past week. Decided rowing comes first, no matter what’s going on with work or whatever. Good luck everyone; it’s a pretty pleasant CTC.

Well done all you early adopters
Hard luck Paul V and Tako-better luck on your next goes
E Clair well done on a nicely judged row
Dave, thats a pretty decent effort
In my present -what seems to be constant ill/unfit state I think I'll stuggle to beat 2 mins/500 pace.

Thanks, in my case I guess it just showed that I was not 100% focused/committed as I just wanted a first marker. Also to make sure to have a score, as this winter season really brings too many bugs/viruses, so one should be happy to be fit.strider77 wrote:Well done all you early adopters

But I was also still tired from the crazy day before
Hope you will get better soon Alan!!
Don’t worry too much about the pace, a score is a score; all count!
This month the Mud challenge, IRL and C2CTC really go nicely hand in hand training wise. Looking forward to see your entries for at least the last two!

Re: March ctc - 2 x 15 min / 3'r, static starts, the slower to count
Well done for completing the challenge. When I missed the start of the second interval, I didn't bother doing it. As it would only have been about 25 to 30 seconds gone by the time I strapped in, I might have got close to my first interval if I went all out. Planning to have another go at it today. As you say, you never know what bug or injury you might pick up, so better to get an early entry done just in case.

I managed to do both intervals today. I did 3692 in the first one and 3708 in the second. It would be great if I could get under 2:00 pace by month end.

Aiming for at least 3900m, but if I had the chance I would go for a +4000. First rep went better than expected and got 4022m, then back to original "goal", but in the 2nd also passed the 4000 and got 4026m...

Very nice Erik .
Also put down a marker - wasn't expecting much as it was my second session of the day, so satisfied with 3865m in the first and 3881m in the second.
These were at 29spm on df 207.
The second leg also took me past 35 million lifetime metres.
I am sure I will have a few more goes at this one - it is a really good challenge.

Some great early entries already as expected from freespirits.
David, I think the assembly of the Millenium Falcon is quickening your pace
Paul V - nice to see such an early second attempt.
Erik, excellent as ever and in your consistency
I’ve not been going so fast over longer stuff lately. I’ve had a few days off training now with a really stiff neck (something I get from time to time when I’m working too much... the hazards of a desk job), also had a lurgie at the same time (just when I was feeling smug I’d gone so far through the winter without so much as a sniffle).
I set about something lighter today to straighten my neck out (bizarrely erging seems to help) and opted for 2*12m / 2r (managed 1:48.1 and 1:48.9 average pace/500). Actually this ended up nothing like a light effort, I got a little carried away and really ought to have done the cross team challenge instead

Paul G, Congrats on 35 million lifetime meters. That's awesome
Well I learnt that putting a hoped for prediction on here first doesn't half ramp up the pressure! The first 15 mins were surprisingly hard, the second 15 unsurprisingly were much, much harder. Was counting down strokes at the end and just crept under my 1.50.0 target. Lowest piece 4,095m.
1. 4095m 1.49.8
2. 4100m 1.49.7
There must be better ways to celebrate my 52nd birthday
