At least we don't have to think hard about rest interval time allocation

Went out too fast, and it got ugly very quickly. Good luck everyone.

Had a go at this yesterday to have an idea of how it feels and as expected it was tough. There was too much time between the rowing and my last substantial eating so already in the first K I was a bit light in the head. The 2 minutes rest after both 1 K's are needed. At a more convenient time I think I can go a bit faster, though I'm not looking forward to it very much.

Had my first go at this today and tried not to go off too fast as usual. Still a bit of positive splitting but a good marker for hopefully some improvement later in the month

Second try today. And last one? Who knows. Doubtful about my pace because I knew how it felt. I wanted to improve the session I did earlier this week, well, a little improvement every rep would do the trick. In the 1000 mtrs I tried to start with a pace I could hold on to till the end without really exhausting myself because of the just 2 minutes rest afterwards. In the 250 mtrs I dare to go almost full throttle, 3 minutes recovery is ok, though the 1000 mtrs thereafter are not as easy as a clean 1K offcourse. Which I felt definitely in the last rep.
Compared to Felton last time I was slower in the 1K's, and faster in the 250 mtrs, which led to about the same time in total. I see now that my 1K's have improved and are about the same as his now. Since my 250 mtrs have improved slightly as well the overall gap has increased now, I'm about 10 seconds faster then last time.
My overall average pace is 1:44.8 now, I doubt it will get much better so my drive to have another go might not be very strong. Will see...

Still clearing the last of my head cold out so my first go today felt really sluggish to start - not fully sure why as it was my legs that were feeling it most. It's a bit of a nasty bugger this, even with the quite generous rests. I kind of started out think 1:55 for the 1k's and maybe mid to high 1:40's for the 250 but managed to stay ahead of that (somewhat hanging on at the end though).
I was quite miffed with my final total of 13:00.2 as a) I just missed dipping under 13 minutes - not that I ever really had it as a target and b) got so close to Mr Bee whom I thought I would be 6~8 seconds behind at least! I'm almost tempted to have another go

A truly awful, and criminally uncontrolled 13:48.3

0:50.8 250m 1:41.6

0:52.5 250m 1:45.0
4:07.7 1,000m 2:03.8
Probably felt worse on this row than I ever have on an erg. Rowed too late at the end of a long day and too soon after a big meal. Must do better

Tough looking session there Jon - I suspect the next one will be better "controlled" and bring better results.
Mr Bee - you appear very keen to put a gap between you and me, I wonder why
You've not scared me off having another go...yet

So what's the pacing here? Be sensible on the 1Ks and then go all out on the 250s because of the 3 minutes rest?

That's just about what I did. My first rep was about three seconds slower then my season's best. The others a bit slower everytime, the 250's offered enough resting time before the next rep.Paul Victory wrote: ↑Mon Jan 08, 2018 12:04 am So what's the pacing here? The C2CTC is always "fun" due to the competition. This month's challenge is as pointed out above a hard one. So really looking forward to see the final results.
Trying to defend a spot in the second boat I took a second shot at this yesterday.
Remembering the sliding of the Erg in my first attempt I "glued" it to the floor mat using what we call "elephant snot" normally used to fix posters on the wall. And it works
So starting of "chasing" Alan I noticed Felton was in reach, but surprisingly it went even faster and Fred came in sight. Tempted to HD several times I kept going as I wanted to get into boat 1 for now and fortunately it worked out well
Sorry Fred, you will have to give it another go
