That was awfully quick Guy! I like your description „the least fun I‘ve had for a while“
I had my first go at this last night. The plan was
1:00 / 1:47
2:00 / 1:48
3:00 / 1:49
with a rest pattern of 1:00/1:30/2:30/1:30/2:30. This is how it went:
It went a bit better than planned. Interestingly I rowed the exact same meters in the the 1‘ and 2‘ intervals. The second 3‘ interval wasn‘t exactly fun but knowing it would be over soon helped a lot. Might have another go at this.

After the IRL yesterday another go at the CTC just now. Rowpro doesn't show me the intermediate scores when rowing but I had my scores from the last try on screen. My goal was to row about the same, if possible a little bit better then the last time I rowed this CTC. I succeeded, but it was tough. The second 2 minutes were hard, the last three minutes were awful. I knew it would be a pity to stop since the first four reps were better then last time, but it did cross my mind a couple of times.
Last time I was 1 meter behind Ralf, now I'm 2 meters ahead of Paul. Sorry Paul. It's up to you again, I'm sure you can do it!

Thanks Steve! Are you planning another go, as a let's say christmas present to yourself?
Hell of a session there Fred, well done! Looking forward to Paul's response!
Had my second go last night with the plan to row each rep about half a second faster than last time and then see what's left in the final interval. This is how it went:
Very pleased with an improvement by 25m In the first half of the session I tried to find a balance between going quicker than last time but still keeping my powder dry. I was dreading the second 2 minutes, in my opinion this is the hardest part. After that one was done it was time for an all out final three minutes, surprisingly 1.4 seconds quicker in pace than last time. That was (kind of) fun

Re: December ctc - The french kiss #2 (1'/2'/3'/1'/2'/3' - 9'r total)
Thanks Alan and Fred! Had another go last night, again eith the aim of doing every rep slightly quicker than last time and then hopefully have enough power left for a three minute long finish sprint.
This is how it went:
A bit surprised by an improvement of another 24m to be honest. First three reps went well, rep #4 was fine, rep #5 was awful. Somehow I managed to muddle the start with a split of 4:13 after the first stroke . I managed to pull the split down nevertheless, but of course had invested a lot more energy than I wanted to. I was a bit concerned for the final three minutes therefore, but like always, when you know you‘re done after this reps it sets free some extra power (at least with me).
Over to Alan, Dave and Steve

Finally got around to doing it today. I started very conservatively at just under 2:00 pace. After two intervals, I felt like HDing, but I plugged away and got my second wind after the 3rd interval. A somewhat pedestrian 3131 meters @ 1:54.9 pace, which leaves me ashore in boat V. Jennifer has agreed to do the challenge tomorrow, so hopefully we'll have at least 5 boats afloat by month end.

Hopefully you and I will be afloat tomorrow then Paul. Either way you can sit and feel smug about doing better than I did. I've been rowing a bit more over the last couple of weeks so I could probably put in a better time, but I'm more likely to get out on my bike. Having said that I had a nasty fall on the bike and a lengthy period of concussion a few weeks back, so maybe the safer option is to stay in the garage and erg instead.Paul Victory wrote: ↑Fri Dec 29, 2017 6:55 pm Finally got around to doing it today. Hello, hope you all spent some wonderfull Christmas Days...and I wish you a happy new year !
This month there was a lack of motivation for intense rowing, only did some relaxed steady state rows to accomplish the Holiday challenge. And so i couldnt go to the limit at this ctc...didnt feel well but also not ill...but better one result as no result. Sorry Tako for pushing you into boat III...but there is still some time left...and i wont go for another try.

That's a nice row to put in before the event closes Claudius. Pretty impressive given you were not feeling 100%
I can see that I am only 60m off Boat IV and so I am going to give this another try today.

Re: December ctc - The french kiss #2 (1'/2'/3'/1'/2'/3' - 9'r total)
As mentioned in an earlier post, I spotted that I was just 60m behind Jan and a place in boat IV. With apologies to Paul for potentially leaving him in a boat that is now afloat (thanks to the lovely Jennifer ) I decided to have a crack. My goal was to try to gain 10m on each of my distances from the previous attempt without going crazy with my HR (see other post on the forum regarding this). I have been doing more rowing following my bike crash and so was fairly confident. As with last time I rowed with 1/1/2/2/3 minutes of rest.
The comparison of the two rows are below:
1:00.0 276m 1:48.7 167bpm
2:00.0 516m 1:56.2 173
3:00.0 764m 1:57.8 180
1:00.0 278m 1:47.9 178
2:00.0 512m 1:57.1 178
3:00.0 769m 1:57.0 183
3,114m
1:00.0 294m 1:42.0 166bpm (+18m - already wondering if I have gone out too fast. This has fly and die written all over it already )
2:00.0 539m 1:51.3 172 (+23m - now I know I am going to struggle, but hoping the longer rests will help)
3:00.0 777m 1:55.8 174 (+13m - starting to fade and worry, but I have nearly made the 60m improvement I need!)
1:00.0 294m 1:42.0 178 (+16m - so much pain for exactly the same metres as interval 1!)
2:00.0 526m 1:54.0 175 (+14m - Looking good and now praying I don't die on the last interval)
3:00.0 778m 1:55.6 178 (+9m - just hung on really. HR much lower than previous attempt though)
3,208m
I panicked at the end because I had been doing rolling starts for interval 2-6 and then couldn't remember whether that was allowed or not.
Sorry Jan, but I have your place (for now?). One more day to have a crack and take it away from me.

Well done Jon, I had been thinking of trying for 3200m, but would have to move that target now Last time I blew up in the final 2 reps, so if I try again I’d increase the final rest to 3min and hope to survive up to that point...

Hmm, thanks for the vote of confidence
I'm afraid that I chickened out after today's warmup, and continued with a row for the meterboard
There's still New Year's Eve of course, but the smart money is on you staying in boat 4
