Re: Indoor Rowers League 2017 / 2018
Well done, Tako. I didn't have the opportunity to row this weekend (though I rowed on water yesterday, a new experience for me), today I didn't feel fit to set a good time, hopefully tomorrow I can try to gain some seconds as well! And hope to stay in the boat with you in the CTC, Tako.

Re: Indoor Rowers League 2017 / 2018
Great row Tako, a gain of almost 11 seconds over a mile is huge! By the way, I have the same problem with the team members list in the 8on8 competition. Once I've clicked on another team than Free Spirits it keeps showing me this other team, even if I've clicked on Free Spirits afterwards. Refreshing the browser doesn't help, maybe deleting cookies does? Guess it's telling me I shall not look at other teams

Re: Indoor Rowers League 2017 / 2018
I might have another go tomorrow (if it could actually be of any benefit to the team). I had a half-hearted go on Sunday and quit at 614m as my average was only 1:55.4 so knew there was no way I could pull that back in the next 1k (to below 1:50.1 average). I did manage a 6 x 500m after that 614m with an average of about 1:48 on 2 minute rests so there was something in the legs (just not in the mental fortitude). Don't hold your breath though...
Great efforts from everyone else though

Thanks all!!
Really motivating to compete internally as we do and against the others. Last season we were around 10th spot most of the time, so moving up to 7th is a good improvement

Good job Tako. I was hoping to improve on that time and the C2CTC but have been dealing with a lot of wrist pain; I think I overdid it on the Fall Team Challenge and brought along a case of tendonitis. Hopefully I'll be back at it soon and set a good mark for November.

Re: Indoor Rowers League 2017 / 2018
Had a go - was just about on target to match the time (ish) but never got ahead (having said that, I never planned to until the last 200~300). Folded at about 700 to go, stopped, stuttered, paddled, picked it up and did actually finish the piece (which was the one positive) - missed an improvement by 2.8s - grrrrrr.
Then did a steady 6344m as a cool down (November's IRL challenge distance) and managed 2:02.6 pace without any real difficulty. I think I need to do much longer warm ups to engage my lungs/breathing properly!!

Re: Indoor Rowers League 2017 / 2018
Thanks everyone for your efforts in the October challenge! It seems that we are back in 10th position, but on a positive note we were team #9 (out of 49) in the month. We bettered our score from 91.24 to 92.66, so we are moving in the right direction
Like Dave I had my first go at the November distance of 6344m today. I decided to take it not too seriously on he first day of the challenge and ended up with a time of 24:38.0 (1:56.4). This is still 10.8 seconds faster than last season‘s score so quite pleased with that for the moment

Tried the IRL 6344 today. Appears to be too early to enter result....
24:06.9 @ 1:54.1
Last year that was 23:45.2 @ 1:52.3 so quite some work left to beat that.... but many days left as well

Re: Indoor Rowers League 2017 / 2018
Had a go today as well. There should be room for improvement, since I rowed this coming home from work, which isn't my strongest time of day. Decided to start at a pace similar to my SB on 30 min (pace 1:56.1). Went quite well and ended up with an average pace 1:55.4, 24:24.4 in total. Perhaps next time I'll try to start with a 1:55 pace.
Re: Indoor Rowers League 2017 / 2018
Just curious - is there some significance to this distance of 6344 M? It is not quite 4 miles so I can't come up with a rationale for such an odd (well even I guess) number.

One of the greatest mountaineering films all time, Touching the Void tells the true story of Joe Simpson, a climber who – along with his partner Simon Yates – was attempting to climb the 6344-meter (20,813 ft) Siula Grande in the Peruvian Andes back in 1985.
After a successful summit, the duo was making their descent when Simpson suffered a horrific fall, breaking his leg in the process. What follows is a harrowing tale of survival and courage in the mountains, where one man refuses to give up no matter what seemingly insurmountable obstacles are placed in his way.

Some more information on Joe Simpson and his link to Concept2. It dates from the times of the challenge series, the predecessor of the Indoor Rowing League:

Re: Indoor Rowers League 2017 / 2018
Had my second go at the Joe Simpson challenge today. Time to beat was 24:38.0 (1:56.4) with the adjusted time being just one second quicker than Tako‘s. I was sure Tako would (successfully) beat that on the next occasion so being a good team member I wanted to provide him with a proper target
Plan was to start out around 1:56 pace for the first half and then speed things up. This is how it went:
1269m / 1:56.2 / 28 / 153
2538m / 1:56.0 / 28 / 162
3807m / 1:55.0 / 28 / 167
5076m / 1:54.7 / 28 / 174
6344m / 1:52.5 / 28 / 180
Total: 24:18.0 / 1:54.9
Things went nicely from the beginning so I decided to speed up earlier than planned. The last 1k was tough but that wasn‘t really a surprise. Watching the overall split come down towards 1:55 helped a lot in the closing stage. Very happy with an improvement of exactly 20 seconds. Tako now has a serious target of 21 seconds to find

Re: Indoor Rowers League 2017 / 2018
Reading Peter's report on his second try I realise it's very similar to my second try just now. Starting with a 1:55 pace in mind I realised it felt ok, a couple of tenths faster felt good, and also started to speed it up a little. Ended up just over 20 seconds faster then last time. A higher pace then my 6K SB (6K 1:54.3, now 1:53.8 ).
Lots of time left this month for the others to beat this... Seems like around noon is a good time for me to row.

Very nice row Fred, indeed it looks similar to mine with the exception that you were a second quicker in pace
You know what that means, don't you?
Do you work from home? Or is it a holiday in the Netherlands today?

Considering your results I trust you can beat this. Sub 24 is waiting for youYou know what that means, don't you?
I might even consider trying that as well...
I work four days a week (sounds like half a Beatles-song), so it's actually the last day of my weekend today.Do you work from home? Or is it a holiday in the Netherlands today?

Re: Indoor Rowers League 2017 / 2018
Second go tonight after 2 a bit days sick with a tummy bug. Set off steady but a bit wary and my legs felt ok. The last 1500 were where being ill caught up with me and there wasn't anything in the tank except a pitiful last 150m. I still managed a 33 seconds improvement though (albeit my last attempt was just after a 1k SB)

Re: Indoor Rowers League 2017 / 2018
Nice one Dave, you were most certainly not 100% fit so I wonder what time you can achieve once you‘re fully recovered?
Had my third go tonight although I knew doing this one day after my 5k TT wasn‘t probably the best idea. Anyway, I felt like going for it and of course to better my time of 24:18.0 (1:54.9). Plan was to start around 1:55 pace for the first half, maybe longer, and then see if I can get closer to a 1:54 overall pace. This is how it went:
1269 / 1:54.7 / 28 / 158
2538 / 1:54.5 / 27 / 166
3807 / 1:54.5 / 28 / 171
5076 / 1:54.7 / 28 / 179
6344 / 1:52.0 / 29 / 184
Total: 24:08.2 / 1:54.1
Completely knackered after this one! I finished about an hour ago and my legs still feel like lead. Everything was under control in the first three sectors, but the fourth one was a bit „uncomfortable“. I had to slow down for about 100m to avoid handling down and then picked it up again. Like usual watching the remaining meters go below 1000 helped. This help lastet about 50m and it hurt again With 500 to go a time of 24:10 seemed doable so I tried to pull harder (Tako‘s time of 24:06.9 wasn‘t too far away after all ). In the end I managed an improvement by 9.8 seconds. Still 1.3 seconds slower than Tako but nevertheless very happy with that!

Re: Indoor Rowers League 2017 / 2018
Nice times, everyone.
Peter - you are still going gangbusters there, well done
Got back on the machine today to test my back out - did a gentle 30 min and recorded my 6344m time just to get a time on the board, even if it is nowhere near a scoring effort .
Went through 6344 in 26:38.0 without much discomfort on df 250.
Decided to have another go this evening and push a bit harder to try and get into the 25's.
Went better than expected even though I didn't row with a full stroke and had to up the spm to get a decent pace(aerobic fitness is not my strong suit at the moment!!).
Took the middle section too quickly (1:53's) and ran out of puff over the last 2 km.
Time : 24:28.0
SPM : 29.0
DF : 221
I will wait till my back is stronger again before trying the CTC, but I hope to be sub-24 for this one by month-end.

Given you rowed 24:28 with less than full stoke and at an unpleasant stroke rate I have no doubt you'll be sub24 by month's end!
