September ctc - 6k unrestricted
Hi all,
team Oarsome have announced the ctc for September:
6000m, unrestricted (from a standing start of course)
Thankfully not another sprint session! In terms of pacing I'd recommend current 6k pace

1st tentative effort at this. Wasn't feeling that strong so just went quite hard for 4k then eased off with a wee sprint at the end

Re: September ctc - 6k unrestricted
Had a first try this morning, aiming at 23 minutes, made it to 22:52. With a finish that suggests I could start a bit faster, will see...
Was also a SB, climbed three places in Nonathlon, so a good beginning of the month.

Re: September ctc - 6k unrestricted
Some very competitive results already entered with four days only into the challenge, well done everybody!
Had a first go at this last Saturday thinking a 2:00 pace (24 minutes) would be good enough to start with as I was feeling a bit tired. Having started the row I realised that 2:00 felt a bit too easy so I decided to go a tad quicker:
1000m 1:59.2 27
2000m 1:58.2 27
3000m 1:58.0 27
4000m 1:57.8 27
5000m 1:56.7 28
6000m 1:54.4 28
Total: 23:28.8 / 1:57.4
Given how tired I felt before the row I'm surprised by a time only 4.3 seconds off my SB. I'd really like to get closer to the 23 min barrier in the course of the month. Let's see how that works out.

Nicely done - and well done indeed to the first rowers.Grobi wrote: ↑Mon Sep 04, 2017 12:53 pm Some very competitive results already entered with four days only into the challenge, well done everybody!

I similarly didn't feel happy with pacing for my first attempt (itself only the second time I've tried 6km). A flattering finish of 24.02 (aided by a sprint finish) left me slightly outside my target time (holding 2min/500), but happy to have a marker down.

Re: September ctc - 6k unrestricted
Thanks Ian! As I was feeling much fresher yesterday and had a rough idea now of how to pace this I decided to have a second go. I set myself three targets:
bronze: beat my previous time of 23:28.8 (1:57.4)
silver: beat my season's best of 23:24.5 (1:57.0)
gold: anything below 1:57 pace
This is how it went:
1000 / 1:58.3 / 27
2000 / 1:58.0 / 27
3000 / 1:57.0 / 27
4000 / 1:56.7 / 27
5000 / 1:55.7 / 27
6000 / 1:52.3 / 29
Total: 23:16.0 / 1:56.3
Very happy with an improvement by 12.8 seconds and a new SB by 8.5 seconds. I kept my powder dry in the first 2k and then decided to go a bit quicker as I was still feeling considerably fresh. The middle 2k were about 1 sec quicker in pace and by that time my overall pace was down 1:57.4, so the bronze target was met. Time to work on a new SB With 900m to go that was done too, so time to see how by how much I can get below 1:57 pace. Quite happy with the outcome I have to say, hope to improve further more during the month.

Re: September ctc - 6k unrestricted
Some very good early entries.
Peter that is way too good for me this month well done
I have lost my base as have hardly rowed since coming back from Cornwall in May.
I need to get on with putting some metres in as am off again in a few weeks

Thank you Alan I don't think I'm safe for now, there are more than three weeks left for the ctc, plenty of time for you get back to old fitness and speed.
Interesting pacing pattern Ian But well done for going sub 24 minutes! I think we can expect Plummy's response to that very soon

Re: September ctc - 6k unrestricted
Very soon in fact Peter - a much improved effort at 23:33.3. Tried a different approach this time by dropping the spm by 2 to start with down to 26spm. Splits weren't quite negative but not so far off:
1:58.6
1:58.2
1:58.1
1:58.0
1:58.2
1:55.5
Also turned out to be a new SB by.......0.5s - tadaaaa!! Good job I sprinted the end as I thought it was 23:40 something

Set the pace boat to 2:02/500m - managed 23:46.2 at 27 SPM on DF 250.
Turned out better than I expected, but still a long way to go to compete with Peter and Plummy.
