BIRC - Who is thinking about going?
I know it's only July, but I start my training for BIRC in a couple of weeks & I wondered who else is thinking of going to this great event?
I attended for the first time last year & Nick did as well. It would be good to see some team members

Hmmmm - I run another web site. The time I met up with the people who used it they were all nutters.redshell wrote:It would be good to see some team members
Mind you, I bet none of them row.
What is the score at BIRC? What time should you be aiming for if you don't want to be embarrassed? Do they do it in heats according to PB time?

Well, I think if I went for it big time I could get sub 7, which in the 35-39 MHWt is not too disgraceful. I will think it over...
But who is going to design the logo for the T-shirt?

There's no disgrace, whatever time you manage, competing at the BIRC. You can only give 100% nobody can do more than that.Thomas W-P wrote:Well, I think if I went for it big time I could get sub 7, which in the 35-39 MHWt is not too disgraceful.
logo for the T-shirt?
I'm planning on going, it wil be my last big race in the 65-69 Mlwt' class. I'll then be promoted to the senior geriatrics
I've only mised one year since 1998. The only problem I have is the strong desire to visit the toilet every 5 mins!! This starts about 1 week prior to the event, slowly getting worse every day
With regard to T shirts, can I make the case that less is often more.
A simple logo FREE SPIRITS IRC should suffice.
It's nerve racking enough at a race without the added pressure of all those eyes staring at your shirt! As for wearing something stating 'Simply the Best" is really going to draw the crowds who'll be expecting to see a sub 6 min 2k from the wearer....... no thanks

I might go to support and it would be nice to meet some of you lot. Not sure about racing though - my training will be geared towards doing a marathon in October which is not ideal preparation for a 2k. My time would probably be around 7:30 which would on the basis of last year mean finishing last or 2nd to last
I may also need to be heading to Heathrow on the 12th to catch a flight on the 13th to Las Vegas (my brother lives there).

Hey Neil, I'm not that scary, my photo is as bad as it gets....... I think.Gooner Neil wrote:Gonna go, like we said on the other forum could be scary meetng you all in real life specially Bangers. Is it just 2k or are there other events?
Where is it
Where do you stay
Etc etc etc
Other events........ are you mad, a one off 2k is enough for most people. It takes me 5 mins just to get my legs moving after the race as they are solid Lactic!!

Bangers, your stats are what scare me. There is one photo on the C2 FS site that does scare me but won't go into that!!!!!!!!
You mis read my question, I'm trying to avoid 2k and was looking to see if there was a different distance. Had bad experience with 2k on saturday, scarred for life

I vote yellow airtex.
Isn't that colour only worn by the stage leader
I suggest Navy blue for the guys and shocking pink for the ladies

Bad day !!
Now I'm really p***ed off, cos I can't make the 12th, and was looking forward to meeting up with a few of you guys.redshell wrote:Stick it in your diary now then 12th Nov!
Will be at the Bridge on the 11th & travelling up after the match!
As I got 'max' points (so far) for the Le Mans, I'm after topping you on the 7 Wonders too!!
Sick of getting just the odd point or two
The Bridge .... that wouldn't be the club that buys titles would it ? And keep losing semi-finals to a real football club ! .

The event is at the National Indoor Arena, which is just off Broad st Birmingham. Last year we stayed at the City Inn, Brunswick Square - which is 5 minutes from the arena and Broad st/loads of bars & restuarants around here! Just checked on the City Inn website & its 65-80 quid for a room at the mo' - there are loads of hotels off Broad st though. Will be booking there again
I'd prefer t-shirts to polo shirts and not pink! Red perhaps!!
I hate the distance, worst one there is!

I'm up for it, don't know how I'll do after doing that marathon on the 28\29th though. If nothing else, it'll be a chance to meet many of the Free Spirits crowd.
As I work in Birmingham I could arrange something for the night if anyone was interested (meal\drinks etc) and am more than happy to advise on hotels etc.
If anyone need more info or would like to go out for a meal after then drop me a line: mash2004@gmail.com and I'll keep a tabs on who's up for a night out.
Bear in mind I'm more versed to horlicks and slippers nowadays and not the famous grouse like Gregor!!!

Re the colour and styles of team wear I think the answer is purely and simply staring us in the face. Look top left, Thomas' Legend and font style is simple and without arrogance. The 'rowing' legend also indicates a feeling of fun (maybe stop taking those tablets). I submit this becomes our legend. Bangers is right. if we turn up en mass at an event with the dogs boll@@ks or similar, one we could look incredibly stupid and secondly not very inviting to others.
