Re: August ctc - 200m, standing start, free stroke rate
Whatever happened to a good old 5k or 30min???
Still, even I wouldn't be able to find an excuse not to sit on an erg for 200m!

Re: August ctc - 200m, standing start, free stroke rate
Hello, and again in August a sprint...i must admit i do like it...but still looking for longer distances. Hope nevertheless for at least 6 boats to float. Had a first try...32.2sec. With a 3788 warmup 200m ctc and a 3789m cooldown... makes one of my desirable lucky numbers 7777m ...and a 5k in the evening...fits to hit the 10k for the dogdays challenge this week.
Have a nice August-ctc, despite its tiny distance....

This is a strange animal. After three stabs in the dark, I'm guessing a df of something like 150 is going to be optimum for me but I can't get a decent feel for stroke rate (wildly varying between high 30s and mid 40s). I've posted a time of 37.6, and wait with anticipation for pointers....

I thought 200 mtr might be a nice challenge to join the ctc. Perhaps some other distances as well in the future. Started out with 33.4 now.

38.5s for me - but I had just done 2k warm up, a 5k in 19:43 then another 5500 cool down so my legs weren't exactly "fresh"

Re: August ctc - 200m, standing start, free stroke rate
Had a first go this morning to float our first boat - been about 3 months since done any sprinting (other than the July CTC which felt very uncomfortable!) and did it at end of a 4x1500m/4'r session so suffice it to say I didn't feel like I had much power!
Managed 40.2 which is a lot slower than I would expect to be able to do over 200m but given it is so short I will try a few more attempts!

Well done to all who have done this so far
My stroke rate was 60 by the way Ian!
Seriously well done after all that-that 5k is better than mine at the moment too
Had a first attempt yesterday managed 37.0 but I need to try a higher DF next time

Second boat floating
I hope to go faster than this before the end of the month but reasonably happy with 45.5 for a first attempt. Last August the CTC was a similar type of challenge (average of 100, 200, 300, 400) so I looked back at that to decide on DF etc.

Re: August ctc - 200m, standing start, free stroke rate
First attempt for me as well, tried to replicate the setup from last August's CTC (higher DF, higher foot rest, no seat pad etc).
Managed 39.6 seconds (38.4 was my best 200m last year), so not too bad a start but room for improvement!
Good luck to everyone who's trying this one, it doesn't take a lot of time to do, so we should get plenty of boats floating this month

Had a first go at this the other day too, and it was a disaster - had the DF too high and the machine was jumping around all over the place.
Managed 35.3 which I hope to improve on through the month.

Both wife and daughter have sat on the erg this week, so if we need any bums on seats at the end of the month we have two in reserve.

Re: August ctc - 200m, standing start, free stroke rate
I'm planning to have a go at this within the next few days. When I did 200m as part of the June 2016 CTC, I managed 33.1 seconds. I'll be surprised if I get anywhere in the same time zone this time around.

Re: August ctc - 200m, standing start, free stroke rate
After over a week of feeling weak I finally felt up to giving this a shot. Not too bad. Think I can improve a bit with a few more tries.
Puzzling PM5 math as someone with the exact splits ended up with 31.2 and 1:18.0
15.8 - 1:19.0 - 49
15.5 - 1:17.5 - 50
31.4 - 1:18.5

Nice one Wolfie
Planning to have another go in a day or two - a bout of the Norovirus (the non-athlete kind) has laid me low for 3 or 4 days but that is over with now, and I have devised a cunning plan to secure the erg so that it doesn't try to walk out the room under my inexpert ministrations

First and last effort from me at 37.8. I am not a sprinter!
I know I may just be being grumpy, but this one really doesn't strike me as in the spirit of the ctc.....and it certainly shows a complete lack of imagination
Just sayin'
P.S. While I was is sprint mode I also clocked up a 500m for this year's Nonathlon too. In for a penny....

Re: August ctc - 200m, standing start, free stroke rate
I expect it was chosen to encourage mass participation. Sam Blythe runs a gym and the challenge is short enough and simple enough that he can probably put up a notice about it and get a large proportion of his gym membership to do it. This might then encourage some of them to get involved as regular ergers.

Re JohnT`s comment. How is this not in the spirit of the CTC? I thought the idea was to consider the participation of the maximum competitors through variations of tasks. Roger Burrell
