Well Ralf, now you make me consider giving it another try as you pushed me into the third boat.....

Well done to all who did the challenge =D>
For those who are still to attempt it (read: Paul ) take it easy and make sure you don't injure yourself! In particular since next month's CTC seems to be a prime candidate to do your back in ...

I had my 2nd attempt today, to see how my return to fitness is progressing. The first attempt was some 3 weeks ago, I managed 15:32.6 which felt like the best I could do. At the time I was in the same boat as Sheena, but since then Jon Taylor knocked me out of that boat - another reason to retry

Today it turned out that 3 weeks of the beginners Pete Plan have had some effect - things were going better than expected on the way up to the 1k, but they were getting harder on the way back down:
Time Meters Pace s/m 15:19.3 4,000m 1:54.9 30 0:53.1 250m 1:46.2 34 1:53.1 500m 1:53.1 31 2:53.8 750m 1:55.8 30 3:55.4 1,000m 1:57.7 29 2:55.4 750m 1:56.9 28 1:54.8 500m 1:54.8 29 0:53.8 250m 1:47.6 32
I was pretty shattered at the end, but am now back in boat 3 :D

However I've since found that Sheena has been knocked out of boat 3 by Amanda (great attempt =D> =D> ), and she's not going to attempt to get back into boat 3 with me :(
Anybody volunteering to knock me back into boat 4, Jon ...?

Final attempt:
Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr s/m 0:53.9 250m 1:47.8 279 1260 29 1:48.5 500m 1:48.5 274 1242 30 2:44.0 750m 1:49.3 268 1220 30 3:40.0 1,000m 1:50.0 263 1204 30 2:46.6 750m 1:51.0 255 1178 29 1:47.4 500m 1:47.4 283 1271 35 0:52.1 250m 1:44.2 309 1363 39
Time: 14:32.5.

More or less learnt from other ctc-ers: slightly lower drag factor, tried not to go out too fast and kept a handle on rate until the last two sprints.....

Well done to everyone ^O^ ^O^

Some great efforts in this thread, well done everyone!

First and last attempt of the month from me today:

250m 1:47.8/500m
500m 1:47.0/500m
750m 1:49.0/500m
1000m 1:49.5/500m
750m 1:48.5/500m
500m 1:45.9/500m
250m 1:39.8/500m

TOTAL 14:22.0 (1:47.7)

Quite happy with that as my breathing was pretty laboured and I don't think I could go much faster if I was to try again.

Nice work everyone! 8) =D>

It's been a tough month. Very hot and humid and I ended up with some sort of food poisoning/stomach flu  Won't go in to any details...but I probably spent more time in the bathroom than on the erg this past week  Underestimated how much something like that takes out of one.

Normally I should be capable of 1:37-8 but not at this point. Went out hard and suffered horribly. Was able to get through the 250's, 500's and 1st 750 on sheer will power but the 1k and 2nd 750 were 2 of the worst experiences in recent memory. Thought about giving it another try today with a bit more even pacing but still not feeling 100%.

Went to the physio this morning and he told me not to do anything other than a slow paddle on the erg. When I explained the challenge and said I would just do it really slowly, he looked at me and said "I know you. There is no way you will be able to resist pushing it."

Unfortunately, he's right and I decided to be sensible for a change. Only the second CTC I've missed in about five years.

Probably a very sensible decision, Paul V :!:

But having said that, I guess you are underestimating yourself - I think you can do the paddling thingy - though it seems odd at first...

Thanks Erik. But it's too late now (probably just as well... )

I guess it's good to have a physio who knows my proclivities. Now all I have to do is follow his instructions.

I have the same proclivities

Thankfully I have been extremely lucky over the years not to have had any serious injuries from erging apart from some tendinitis a few years ago.

Hope all heals well soon
