May ctc - BW Rowing sprint monster

Post by Grobi »

Hi all,

the May ctc has been chosen by BW Rowing:

"Row the following intervals: 30 Seconds on, 60 Seconds off, x10 (10 intervals)

Submit total meters rowed, do not include any resting meters.
First interval from a standing start, others are standing or rolling starts.
There are no other restrictions"

Again a ctc for the sprinters, can't say I like the sound of it.
Athletes row, others just play games

Peter

55y, 1,89m, 85kg

I've been also looking for a straight 7-12k event...but it is like the tetris game...if you are waiting for the long ones they wont come...

Stomach flu paid me a visit about 10 days ago. Took its toll as I lost 6lbs and what feels like months of progress. Cest la vie. Figured I'd use this as a feeler. Hopefully more in the tank if I rate up a bit and gain back a few pounds of pulling power.

Thanks guys. Short stuff is definitely my strength and preference. Lately anything over 1k feels long.

Know the feeling (on both counts, but particularly the bolded).

I'm minded to start with pacing a "touch" down from the 177m sprint from last month and see just how badly it goes

Very well done, Dan :!: ^O^ ^O^ Bet you can improve further this month :!: 8)

Not much erging for me these past 2 (or is it 3) weeks, though did roughly 1k in a little less than 4 minutes Monday... My body and mind still struggling with the doubling of beta-blockers from a week ago - so I a little out of my comfort zone... But felt up for a ctc attempt, and went better than expected, well - particularly true for the first 5 reps, and not true for the last 3 reps when wheels came off... : 168m -171m -172m - 172m - 173m - 169m -169m - 166m - 162m - 165m T=1687m 1:28.9 41spm Guess I will do a little more erging this month than I have done recently, so actually hoping for some improvement... :D

Well done to all who have given this a go so far - I had a go this morning and started off well but faded in last 3 reps. Amazing how 30 seconds can feel so long when sprinting but go so fast in the recovery

Scarily I averaged a stroke rate of about 45 - was glad my OTW coach wasn't watching me as sure I really shortened up my stroke and a couple of times felt I was close to coming off the seat

Ended up with average of 1:42.0, quickest was 1:40.6 and slowest was 1:42.7 (same split exactly for last 3 reps).

Enjoy!!

Well done Amanda. =D> =D> =D>

I presume you took 60 seconds rest between intervals, not 30?

And yes Paul I did have the 60 seconds although I see how my wording could suggest otherwise!

Impressive efforts so far folks.

1519 for me. How I wasn't sick I will never know. Not doing this one again!!

Given BW Rowing hold 5 of the top 6 places and 3 of the top 5 boats, something tells me they have been practising this one!!

Not much fun, but looks like I've got "more in the tank"... don't know that I'll try to find out how much more as that last rep really kinda sucked... :) Surprised to be at the top of Boat II for the moment!!

Do you guys crank up the drag for these sprint events? I raised it, but not all the way. (Usually row at Drag = 130 which is about 5.5 on my erg, but bumped to 7 for first 6 reps and then to 8 for the last 4.)
