March ctc - Bob Spenger memorial row, 5142m from a standing start
Forum Flyers dedicated the March ctc to the late Bob Senger:
From the C2 USA forum:
"CTC March 2017.
The Bob Spenger Memorial 5142.
In memory of the late Bob Spenger, who sadly passed away earlier this year http://www.c2forum.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=153937, the March 2017 CTC will be a single row of 5,142m.
Whilst his slew of competition victories and 38 current world records (including all distances and times from 500m through to a full marathon) are testament to his achievements on the erg, this challenge also recognises his huge contribution to the world of indoor rowing, with 5,142 being the number of posts Bob made to the current iteration of the Concept2 Forum.
Please record your time taken to row 5,142m as a single piece from a standing start."

Re: March ctc - Bob Spenger memorial row, 5142m from a standing start
Had an early go at this yesterday. Given my latest 2k three days ago was at 1:51.8 pace I figured a pace six seconds slower for this one should be doable. So my aim was to hold 1:58 for as long as possible and see if there's anything left for a finish sprint once it's about 500m to go. This is how it went:
1,100m / 1:58.3 / 27 / 162
2,200m / 1:57.8 / 28 / 169
3,300m / 1:57.4 / 28 / 181
4,400m / 1:57.3 / 28 / 182
5,142m / 1:55.2 / 29 / 192
Total: 20:07.3 / 1:57.4 / 28
Fairly happy with that as I could still feel the 2k time trial from Monday and the February ctc from Tuesday in my legs. Looking forward to my next go with fresh legs

Well done Peter, and nice to see the "gang" still healthy guys
I'm still plodding with the occasional session.
Posted a time yesterday, which will be behind you all, but at least I got a sweat up in Bob's memory.

Had an early go at this myself today. Target was same as everyone else..Peters time
Finished 20:04.7 1:57.1. Probably will have another couple goes at it before end of month.
I think there might be little more left to give.

Re: March ctc - Bob Spenger memorial row, 5142m from a standing start
Hi all, i like this one...just a straight 5k plus 142m...perfect fitting for the mud Season challenge...hope all stay healthy in this wet month...my kids again suffering from a cold...so i´ll see in the next days where my nose leads me to what kind of training...pausing or just going on.
I didnt know how to pace this one...cause the last 5k flat out session is been a Long time ago
so i decided to take it easy the first 5 splits and for the last one to flat out
hope i find the opportunity for a 2nd go
so thats it:

Like you Claudius I haven't done all out 5k in a long time. Covered everything except for the distance and went with a pace/rate that was relatively "comfortable". Plan to use this as an excuse to do some 5k training and take a few more shots. Based on training intervals I'm hoping to get sub 18 again. Not sure how I ever managed 17:28. That still sticks in my mind of one of the most painful experiences I've had on the erg.

Re: March ctc - Bob Spenger memorial row, 5142m from a standing start
I meant to put my splits up but was too busy recovering last night - that was a tough 5142m. Oddly, before even knowing it was 5142m for this month's CTC, I did a 5000m trial last week and managed 19:23.x (which I was pretty happy with as my second best for the season). I used that as a gauge for this attempt although I'd been doing some odd stretching the night before as was feeling it in legs somewhat.
Using the default monitor splits like Peter I got:
1100 - 1:56.6
2200 - 1:56.4
3300 - 1:56.2
4400 - 1:56.7 (deliberately backed of a tad for 200 or so in here as I feared an early death was on the horizon)
5142 - 1:54.4
I'm not sure there's much more in the tank. I'd like to say I could do better on fresh legs but frankly, I can't remember the last time I had "fresh" legs

Thanks for providing me with another target Dave This looks like a very well paced session, just on the edge of h/ding. So in other words: you got the most ouf it in that session =D>

I knew I was putting the target splits out there but you were good enough to start us off - so I thought it was the fair thing to do.

Thought I better put out a marker for Felton
This is my first of three attempts for the C2CTC this month as I made a workout plan for this month to make the large Mud Challenge without killing myself and doing the IRL and C2CTC as well
What does fresh legs mean??? Never experienced any, or wait, after a shower they are fresh

Nice marker Tako ,had to look up what my last 5k pace was - did it in 1:50.5 in December so would like to go at least that quick and hopefully sub 1:50

I handled down on my attempt however this is a very hard target maybe Peter can match it, its beyond me I suspect !
