Well done Paul - as I'm a retired bank employee, it has made my day to see that you are once again out of the red and back into the black.
Keep going and keep positive. I'll be back later.

Re: 2017 Weight Loss Thread
Thanks Jill, but I'm only in the orange. Hopefully on my way to the green zone, but probably not in time for Elaine's wedding on December 16th.

Re: 2017 Weight Loss Thread
Paul, even if you do not reach your target by December 16th, focus on the big picture. You are back on track, the weight is coming off and for the first time in ages, you have managed to stay under 100kg for more than three weeks. Major achievement. Keep up your re-discovered motivation.Paul Victory wrote: ↑Wed Nov 29, 2017 2:20 pm Thanks Jill, but I'm only in the orange. This is a case of female curiosity now ( I am not a nosy person ). Are the wedding plans going smoothly? I quite understand if you would rather keep such details to yourself.
I hope that everyone else’s weight loss is still going in the right direction.

Re: 2017 Weight Loss Thread
Hi Jill
Thanks for the encouragement and for asking how things are going with the wedding preparations. It's hard to see beyond the wedding at present, but hopefully I won't 'fall off a cliff' weight wise once it's over.
It's getting very close now and starting to feel a little frenetic. Elaine and Ben have left New Zealand and are currently in San Francisco for a few days before arriving here on Monday afternoon. On Thursday 9th Jennifer and I are heading down to the hotel in Cong with Elaine and Ben to finalise the menu for the wedding reception - the hotel is called The Lodge at Ashford Castle and is in same estate/grounds as Ashford Castle where Rory McIlroy had his wedding reception a few months ago.
Cong is where they shot most of the film The Quiet Man starring John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara and the village is something of a shrine to the film, with a statue of the two stars and a visitor centre based around the film, plus several bars and shops named after various characters in the film. It's not as bad as it sounds and is actually a bit of fun. We're having a function in the village (which is about a mile from the hotel) the day after the wedding reception and we hope it will be enjoyed by all, particularly those who have made the trip all the way from New Zealand.
I'm still working on my 'father of the bride' speech. I'd like to be able to say that it's nearly finished, but it's far from the finished article at this stage! Most of the other logistics are sorted, but I'm sure things will be fairly hectic once Elaine and Ben get here. I'm starting to feel a bit like Steve Martin in a certain film that shall remain nameless.

Re: 2017 Weight Loss Thread
Thank you for the wedding info Paul - The Lodge looks like a very elegant venue in a beautiful setting.
It might not be a bad idea to avoid the Doughnut Wedding Cake as well.
Well done this week for persevering with your weight loss - from now on, make sure that you always wear your virtual parachute and virtual rucksack containing your virtual climbing gear. That way, if you ‘ do fall off a cliff ‘, you’ll be able to work your way back up to the top again.Paul Victory wrote: ↑Thu Nov 30, 2017 10:23 pm It's hard to see beyond the wedding at present, but hopefully I won't 'fall off a cliff' weight wise once it's over.

Are you trying to convince us all, that for once you will be lost for words?Paul Victory wrote: ↑Thu Nov 30, 2017 10:23 pm I'm still working on my 'father of the bride' speech. I'd like to be able to say that it's nearly finished, but it's far from the finished article at this stage!
If I remember rightly, at one stage, didn’t Steve Martin end up behind bars? Or is this particular Father of The Bride intending to end up behind a bar?Paul Victory wrote: ↑Thu Nov 30, 2017 10:23 pm I'm starting to feel a bit like Steve Martin in a certain film that shall remain nameless.

Re: 2017 Weight Loss Thread
Thanks Jill. I'm hoping to avoid ending up behind bars and hopefully will achieve this unless the drink gets the better of me and I start to sing in public!
We stayed in the hotel last Thursday night when we went down for the tasting. We sampled 3 soups, 4 starters, 3 sorbets, 6 main courses and 4 desserts! Also had a big hotel breakfast the following morning followed by a get together with the future inlaws when we got home. Needless to say, this resulted in something of a reversal of my recent weight loss, but I hopped on the scales this morning and I'm only 0.1 kg heavier than my last weigh in, so damage limitation achieved! Another get together tonight, so target of getting under 95kg for the wedding may not be attained, unless I can exhibit a lot more willpower than usual over the next few days!

Despite the wedding last weekend, I managed to edge closer to my 95 kg 'green zone'.

Thanks Jon. I've been a somewhat naughty messiah this week, so I expect tomorrow's final weigh in of the year will be somewhat chastening.

Re: 2017 Weight Loss Thread
As expected, too much eating and drinking over the past 9 days have taken their toll and resulted in a net gain of 1.4 kg. At least I ended the year out of the red zone and I hope to get back to regular erging during 2018.

Well done Paul, the Christmas period weight gain can be excused, that's what I'm telling myself too!

Absolutely Paul - in old money that's about 15lbs or 1stone and 1pound and ... achieved when you haven't been able to row.

Re: 2017 Weight Loss Thread
An idea came to me last night as I was lying awake discovering the down side of one too many Espresso Martinis (I was wide awake, not sick) it occurred to me Paul that a May-May season for your weight loss monitoring would avoid the somewhat inevitable pitfall of Christmas falling right at the end of the effort. Just a thoughtPaul Victory wrote: ↑Sun Dec 31, 2017 10:40 am As expected, too much eating and drinking over the past 9 days have taken their toll and resulted in a net gain of 1.4 kg. At least I ended the year out of the red zone and I hope to get back to regular erging during 2018.

Good point Jon.
On the other hand, if I didn't have a final weigh in hanging over me, I might put on 5 kgs or more over Christmas.
