Re: 2017 Weight Loss Thread
Bit of a regression this week, but not entirely surprised.

Re: 2017 Weight Loss Thread
Final weigh in before heading off to Alvor. Slight improvement on last week, after a very mixed week.
I was back with the specialist on Wednesday and he told me that I wont do any permanent damage by rowing so I decided to get back on the erg that afternoon. Set it to 60 minutes and paddled very slowly (around 2:20 pace ), but had to bail after about twenty minutes. Back pain is still there, but it comes and goes. I'm scheduled to have another injection in September.
Then on Thursday, we had to have our much loved family pet, Molly, put to sleep. Very traumatic for us all after having her as part of the family for almost 15 years. Haven't really felt like getting back on the erg since then, but I might do so later. It feels weird going for a walk without having to stop every few seconds while Molly explores some fascinating new smell.

Re: 2017 Weight Loss Thread
Hi Paul, at least you are going in the right direction, every little bit counts.
It's been an emotional time for you I know, xxx so I'll keep this as brief as possible.
Have a good holiday - I hope that your back will benefit from the warmth of the weather and from you being in ' relaxation mode '.
Not the right time of course to talk about watching your weight - try some reverse psychology on yourself, " Nothing is forbidden, therefore I won't be craving it. " Something along those lines anyway.
On the other hand ... as Father of The Bride, it will be your duty to look as dapper as possible ... Something for you to focus on ...
Karry on Karaoke.

Thanks Jill. Thankfully, wine has absolutely no calories whatsoever, so I should be fine!

I am really sorry to hear that Paul, we have a lovely Border Collie cross who is 13, she is very much part of our family too so my heart goes out to you.Paul Victory wrote:- Then on Thursday, we had to have our much loved family pet, Molly, put to sleep. Thanks Alan. It was tough, but we know we did the right thing for Molly and she was well looked after and much loved while she was with us. It will be strange getting home on Saturday night and not having to go in to check on her and receive a baleful 'where have you been' look.

Re: 2017 Weight Loss Thread
The dreaded post holiday weigh in this morning. It turns out wine does contain calories after all! Who would have thought?
My back was acting up, so I wasn't able to do any erging, but I did a fair bit of walking. I guess eating out every night may also have been a contributory factor, but net outcome was a gain of 2.4 kg and I'm now back above my beginning of the year weight.
Sackcloth and ashes loom. But first I have to go to a friend's 65th birthday party this afternoon.

Re: 2017 Weight Loss Thread
Hello,
I'm happy in the moment, before May I was building up for the "traditional" end of season FM and did not care about weight. After my early season FM, I started trying to get back on my target weight, I was lucky to hit my target end of June (before the TdE) and it was quite stable the last 3 weeks (which means I have done even more meters but also eat more than normal)
Now starts the hard and hopefully uneventful part: holding it
My target is BMI=25 which is good enough for my height.
( I despise the BMI and like the Ponderal Index or the new ^2.5 BMI)

Re: 2017 Weight Loss Thread
My weight has been all over the place since my last post on this thread. It seems to go up for three or four days in a row and then fall for the next three or four days. This tends to coincide with whether I've been drinking or not (I'm trying t avoid drinking from Monday to Thursday), but I'm sure that's entirely coincidental!
I'm currently slightly below my 31 December weight, so I figured I should start posting again. Hopefully, I'll manage to keep the overall trend downwards, particularly as I am under instructions to lose weight before our daughter's wedding in December. I think the idea is that it would be preferable if I could walk (rather than waddle) down the aisle.

A lovely occasion, where of course you will undoubtedly put on about a stone !Paul Victory wrote:- I'm currently slightly below my 31 December weight, so I figured I should start posting again. So you need to lose at least that-come on you can do it
I am so ashamed, I have not had the cojones to post-whatever the reason I have not managed to get back into a proper rowing fitness regime since coming back from Cornwall in early May and I have another holiday booked for a few weeks time in Cornwall again!
I am guessing I am around 96kg which is 8kg over the weight I was when I did my PBs back as a youngster of 57/58
And I don't even have the excuse that you have Paul of your body not allowing you to do it!
Enough feeling sorry for myself, good luck with continuting to lose the weight, I find keeping off the booze for a few days works so hey ho here we go

Re: 2017 Weight Loss Thread
Thomas -- very impressive results! Wishing you the best with your cycling!
RdGkA -- excellent results for so short a time!
Paul and Alan -- you both can absolutely do this! I know you can.
Paul -- having a fixed date in mind can help quite a bit. Just take it one day at a time and you'll start to leverage your gains.
Alan -- no pressure, but sometimes biting the bullet and posting can help get you out of a rut. You don't need to post your current weight... you can just pick today as a starting point and post your losses.
I'll post my results... but not today.
Cheers,
zoot

Re: 2017 Weight Loss Thread
Still making steady progress -- only 10 more pounds to go! (4.5 kg)
I never would have believed it, but for me it seems like food choices are much more important than exercise when it comes to weight loss. Choose the right foods and I make steady progress... choose the wrong foods and I struggle. (Doc RowSlow made this comment more than once, but I never believed him until now. )

That's amazing Zoot, very well done . You've lost half of me!
I'll race you for the last 4.5kg however I think you're the safer bet. That's about the amount I put on during our long holiday .

Impressive stuff zoot, well done! Are you aiming for lwt status now? "Lightweight" That must sound sweet in your ears, doesn't it?

Great effort zoot!!! Do you feel that your body is fighting back to a higher set point?

Re: 2017 Weight Loss Thread
Thanks Sheena! You're on! But I'm not really in a hurry to get anywhere. The changes I've made are changes I intend to keep for the rest of my life. My weight will end up wherever it ends up. I think that will be somewhere between 160-165... but it could be higher or lower.
Thanks. And yes, I will get down to lightweight at least once... just to see what it feels like.
Thanks! Nope, no sign of any setpoint. I'm not really convinced there is such a thing. Or rather, I think there is definitely something that happens, but I don't think it is caused by your body rebelling or fighting back. I think there is a much simpler explanation.
Thanks for all your support!
Cheers,
zoot

Re: 2017 Weight Loss Thread
i've got out of the habit of posting regularly here and weight is continuing get to fluctuate. No erging at all this month as my back is acting up. I'm going for my second lumbar injection on Thursday. The last one didn't really help, but apparently it's worth having another crack at it. I'm also going to see my GP on Monday for a blood test.
I'm tempted to have a go at the IRL 4 minutes and the CTC 6k before Thursday as I will not be allowed to erg for a week or two after the injection, but I'm not sure it's wise (and since when did that ever stop me ). Anyway, I'm marginally down on my last weigh in four weeks ago.

Re: 2017 Weight Loss Thread
Thanks Alan.
I did around 3k in total yesterday on the erg and I don't seem to be suffering any ill effects today. I'll try to do a very slow 6k tomorrow. Bloods have been sent off, so we'll see what the doctor says when they come back.

Well done, Paul!
Holding steady in the face of health problems is difficult at best.
Hope your blood results are positive!

Well done, Paul, for keeping things on track It seems to me that the adventure in Portugal wasn´t as damaging as one might fear...
