VIDEO done now :) OrangeRider's 100k on Fri 17th

Post by Mike Channin »

Our recent recruit OrangeRider (aka Marcus Jenkins) is doing his charity 100k today.

This is taking place in the LA Fitness Gym on Fenchurch St. London.

He's starting about 8:15 to 8:30 am, and I'm guessing he'll be finishing around 4:30 to 5pm.

Any Spirits in the area, try and pop in and give him some support. If I can sort it out, I'm going to try and get in and row the last 90mins (ish) with him.

He will also be celebrating his achievement afterwards in the Old Tea Warehouse on Creechurch Lane.

Hope some of you can make it along. PM me if you're thinking of going (put your mobile on, so I can let you know any plans).

Good luck Marcus!!!!!

Just checked, and he has either done 47k or has 47k to go, so is around half way.

Go Marcus!

Predicted finish time is around 4-4:30.

Have checked, and it should be ok for me to go along and row the last bit with him.

Anyone else coming down??

Just got back having met Mike & Marcus. And yes Marcus did the 100k - Great effort Marcus :D Around eight and a half hours and he was still looking good at the end - and Mike did 2 hours!
Photos & video to follow. I think they are now both having a well-deserved pint of guinness or two :)

Mike "have body, will ergo anywhere as long as it is for more than two hours" Channin strikes again. I really don't know why he bothers with the sprints.

Seriously, well done guys. Particularly OrangeRider. 100km is a long, long way. I'd like to see pictures of the FANAS (see this thread if that means nothing to you).

Marcus was an absolute star and looked completely unfazed by any of it, and fresh as a daisy at the end. Think it had something to do with the pacing. It's all about pacing y'know. I was suffering after 2 hrs. The Guiness afterwards helped. Now have to be up at 7 to row. How nice...

Hello All...

Post by OrangeRider »

I DID IT :D :D :D

Thanks for all the messages of support and encouragement and thanks to Michelle and others for the support for the last couple of hours.

Special gratitude to Mike for guiding me in over the last 30k - your efforts are very much appreciated. Thank you.

The question is - was it worth rowing 100k? The answer is a resounding yes. Have totted up the pledges and sponsorship for BBC Children in Need and it totals £1800, which is more than I ever thought I would raise.

Another question - do I ache? Again, the answer is yes! I am sitting on a double padded seat as I type this reply and I have just woken from a two hour afternoon nap.

Another question - will I do it again? Maybe yes, maybe no. My focus at the moment is on my holiday and then when I get back on getting my 500m, 2k, 60' etc. distances completed.

I don't feel as bad as I thought I would but it is still only Saturday and maybe Sunday will bring new and improved aches and pains.

Thanks to all on Free Sprits for the advice in the run up to the 100k row - without it I don't think I would have finished. I'm sure that I would not have looked as fresh as Mike says I did at the end :D

Wait until the pics and video clips are uploaded to see for yourself

I have posted some pictures, and taken the opportunity (whilst baby sitting the kids by watching old family photos ;)) to update the home page a little.

You can find pictures of OrangeRider's event through the "Home" link or by clicking on the logo.

Stick any comments about the slightly changed home page in the "Web site" forum please.

Only 100k - We LAUGH at 100k in FS!!!

Post by PSims »

So Mr Channin....when are you going to set a REAL challenge?
Seems 100km is becoming the norm for some of our guys!

Seriously, well done to anyone that can do this.
I can envisage 50k but 100k simply defies belief!
When I first started out, I did 400k in the first 4 years of erging!
Now it seems that's 4 day's worth!!

The Metres Monsters have woken up at the top of our board - and I'm getting sucked in again!!! :?

Refreshed and ready to row...

Post by OrangeRider »

Back from holiday  and lapping up all the kind words re: the 100k - many thanks to one and all.

Liking the pictures but am wondering where the "revenge of the bubble-wrap seat" video might be lurking :?:

I will be sitting on an ERG for the first time in a few days either tomorrow or wednesday - to start concentrating on the PBs.

BTW Thomas - very much like the new-look homepage. Brings it all to life. Well done on the techno wizardry!

Sorry, forgot Mike had sent me that - and knowing you'd like your pain shared with the World I have knocked up a video and put it on youtube ;)

You can see it on your charity row page...

or a direct link to youtube:

Oh yes - what was your official time in the end?

Overall time was 08:30:13

The balloons ordered from the BBC arrived four days after the event. I am keeping them for next year, so am already thinking about what to do...150k perhaps

Children in Need? - Next year?

150K - think bigger.

How about FS attempt on a million? I'm thinking 2 ergs, 12 hours and as many team mates as we can get.

With enough organisation and notice we could get some ergs in a public space perhaps (I'm thinking the atrium of my office building) where people pass in and out all day to boost the fund raising.

Ideas?

Comments?
