Indoor Rowers League 2016/2017

Post by Grobi »

Hi everyone,

like the two seasons before FIRT (French Indoor Rowers Team) are running the indoor rowers league again (http://indoorrowers.org/indoor-rowers-league). It's a replacement for the former C2 challenge series which disappeared two years ago and most probably won't come back.

The indoor rowers league's schedule is like last season's:

September - 4 minutes
October - 1 mile
November - 6344m
December - 5000m
January - 1 minute
February - 2000m
March - 10000m
April - 500m

Like in the past seasons there will also be a team competition. One team consists of a max of 10 members, the eight best results count. The teams are defined by the end of September, if you aren't registered with Free Spirits as your team affiliation by then you can't be member of the team!

This is to remind/encourage Free Spirits to register for this challenge (if they haven't already) :fswink:

Thanks for putting that up Peter. I've been meaning to sign up, but just hadn't got around to it.

So just another competition for me to keep me rowing ;-) What happens if more than 10 of us sign up?

You snooze, you lose! The first ten people who enter will be the Free Spirits team.

By the way, it would be nice to have some gender balance in the team. I think last year we had an all male line up.

It would also be nice if every team member actually entered a score every month. Last season we had some no shows which cost us a lot of points as a team because we didn't get eight countable results in some rounds.

I think we can have more teams than one. But that's probably not realistic if last year's first ten did not manage eight rows each month.

Personally, I skipped this series of challenges last year and I'm on the fence now. The not so user-friendly website doesn't help much, sadly. If at the end of the month we don't have ten entries, I'll have a go.

Just signed up. Do I get it right that those who also pick FreeSpirits as 8on8 will be part of the ten that contribute to the best 8? I now ticked it of, but if someone else wants the spot please contact me.

Very true Peter. So even though we are Free Spirits and have no rules (apart from respecting each other), please don't enter the team competition unless you intend to enter a score each month (barring injury/illness/etc.). Pretty please?

I suppose it's against our Free Spirit ethos to publicly shame no-shows (without good reason) in here and assign the culprit corvΓ©e duties on our website?

Did my bit today with a pretty mediocre effort. Managed 1226m in May which shows how much fitness I've lost. On the plus side I didn't give up and also feel the back is almost better

Thanks, will do. Just saw that I will have no chance on improving my row for the September c2ctc (still no clue what was carrying me that day) so I better go for the 4 min in my next session :-)

I did a pathetic 1112 meters today - this time last year I did 1200! My erg is still out of action and I was using a Model C in a local gym, but that's no excuse. Just never got into any kind of proper rhythm and my breathing was all over the place. I will try again before month end, but having to pay daily visitor fees until my erg is fixed does not encourage me to row every day.

You can definitely beat that Paul, I managed 1145m and your 10 mins CTC beats mine so over 1145m is definitely achievable :D

I use a higher DF for anything up to 2k and in this case for 4 min I used DF150

Thanks Alan. I'm hoping to get my erg fixed tomorrow. Involves a round trip of around 250 miles, but hopefully will be worth it to have everything back up and running again.

Hope this is good enough, as I am dead now after sliding backwards into the cupboard, since the erg started sliding after 2,5 minutes :-(

Indoor Rowers League 2016/2017

Grobi wrote:Hope the cupboard is still alive :D
Thanks! Yes, fortunately it is :-)

I learned two things today:
1) I might have been putting my erg in a too low DF position. After reading the post above I increased it for this row from four to five. Don't think I would have got down to 1:40 without it.
2) the Concept 2 contact in Norway (a former Pro) is probably right that the sliding of my erg is also due to my technique, as the first two minutes went fine and I first started sliding on my new mat when getting tired and sloppy with waiting a bit before starting the leg stretch.
Anyhow good fun! :-) Hope to be among the 8 best of the 10 ;-)

Okay, I'm in. I managed 1088 meters today. It may not seem much, but I do have the 2k cough now, so that should be proof that I gave it my all.

Image

Thanks to the new IRL scoring system, I get another 164 m for free for being a lwt male in my forties, taking my adjusted score up to 1252.
We now need at least one, but preferably three other Free Spirits to join.
