Fall Team Challenge
Hi all,
the fall team challenge starts on September 15th so please don't forget to sign up. I believe I have signed us up but individuals need to sign up too. This is done through the team page and has nothing to do with affiliation so it wont happen automatically. Let me know if there are any issues and I will try to address them. I will send out a round robin email over the weekend to remind everyone.

Hi, I managed to sign up without any issues. In the challenge it mentions 100k and 200k. What is the difference/point? BR Tako

Re: Fall Team Challenge
Hi Tako. If I remember correctly they publish a table of names of those who go 200000 and over and those who go 100000-199999. You just need to row that far in the month to appear in the table.

We are leading! We have 107 signed up now. It seems Stan's mail was very effective.

Re: Fall Team Challenge
We've dropped to third place now but are still close to first and second place. There are twenty signees who,as yet haven't put any metres up for us and of course a couple of hundred Free Spirits who haven't signed up at all. It looks like every metre is going to count in this one so if you haven't signed up yet, please feel free to do so. For reference, you don't need to row anything more than you usually row or even row it any faster - just the act of joining the event on the C2 log page automatically adds your training metres to the scoreboard and it would be so nice for once to actually win one of these challenges.
Tuesday's effort was an hour for me and I managed a close to season's best with 14600m (only 53m off my best) and I threw in an extra hour last night with a more steady 14337m (@ 25SPM) and my heartrate only rose to 141BPM!! I actually slowed for half a stroke to stop at 10k but then pushed through the "wobble" thinking the pace doesn't matter but the metres do - "get it done". I normally train on a Thursday so I get the feeling I'll be repeating that thought!
Well done everyone who's chipped in so far =D> =D>

Two very nice hours there Dave, well done! I wonder what that event is you're doing all these longish sessions currently? Whatever it is it helps the team tremendously in the FTC (unlike my occasional ctc 10 minutes).
Athletes row, others just play games

Re: Fall Team Challenge
Thursday's session hurt somewhat Peter. My legs seriously didn't want to play after Tues/Wednesday and it was a "struggle" from the start. When I say struggle, to be honest it was not lungs/heartrate, just leg fatigue so after 20 minutes (then 30 and 40) I kept thinking "140BPM isn't really working that hard, so just keep going". Eventually it wasn't as bad as I feared. That said, I'd changed to a 14,000m row so finishing in 58:54.4 gave me a whole minute and 6 seconds off from what I thought I was going to do
As for the extra metres, it's very early but I've got the beginnings of an itch that I think I might want to scratch.

Re: Fall Team Challenge
I have been genuinely touched by the donations this year and it has spurred me to get back on the rower. I did 4 x 2000m then promptly fell horribly ill. I will be back.
I have joined the challenge and have also added it to the meterboard.

It will be exciting to see whether we can keep the third place. It is going to be a close call! No4 is approaching fast!

Re: Fall Team Challenge
The last day of the challenge is upon us and it looks like we are going to be beaten into 4th place by a team of only 52 people! I suspect, unless someone has a huge number of metres to dump onto their logbook today, we are not going to be able to make up the distance they already have over us - but it would be great to give them a scare - so if anyone training today can throw in an extra couple of km (warm up or cool down etc) it would help the cause.

Re: Fall Team Challenge
I was all set to compete but then got ill, and then fell off my bike again (road rash only this time, but very sore). In all this I finally got my sore toe diagnosed. My GP worked through gout, arthritis then bunion, but none seemed right so I went to a specialist who diagnosed sesamoiditis and rest. Anything that bends the toe joint even a bit is bad, so rowing is out until after an op on 12th December.Thomas W-P wrote:I will do some this year.

My sentiments as well Thomas, although having thoroughly researched the condition on Wikipedia, medically, I now feel fully qualified to add, β Ouch! Ouch! and Ouch! βCamiCrew wrote:Sesamoiditis? Yikes!
I do hope that the planned surgery will be problem free and best wishes for a good recovery.xxx

Re: Fall Team Challenge
Thank you everyone. When becoming an "expert" through the dreaded Dr Google I enjoyed the "athlete" and "young" aspects of who suffer from it. As a 116kg 48 year old that made me feel happy.
I have literally been living like a pro cyclist - walking very little and riding being my own exercise. Well, literally apart from the eating and drinking I guess .
