Re: September CTC: Tribesports Ten
I'm going to do this one as soon as I'm lightweight. Right now, I'm in that small bracket where I'm under 75 kg in the mornings before breakfast, but 75+ when I step on the rower later in the day.
Haven't done a 2k or something alike in ages, but I did 5 x 6 min (3 min rest) @2:00.2 today. What would be a good target pace for the 10 minutes for me?

Thanks. I managed to register, so now I just need to find a good moment to row a 10min. As I am a HWT I will probably not help getting the boats to float but I might help to start one more.Caratacus wrote:Hi Tako, go to c2ctc.com and click on add or update a person tab in top right corner. 2383m. Hoped for a bit more, but it's fine. No splits because I did it combined with a 20' cooldown as 2x10' /5'r. Was negative split though. 3/4 through had the thought "would it be so bad if I stopped and did this later in the month?" so guess I pushed myself about right.

Re: September CTC: Tribesports Ten
You did 30 mins instead of the ctc 10 mins., but with 3mins rest. My (very rough) guess would be that you could do the 10mins in 2:00 pace as well.Rodger wrote:Haven't done a 2k or something alike in ages, but I did 5 x 6 min (3 min rest) @2:00.2 today. I had my first go at this last night and it was a desaster. Plan was to start out at 1:53 pace and see how things develop. Well, they developed badly after 4 minutes. In fact so badly that I slowed down considerably and only picked it up again to have at least some kind of score:
02mins. / 1:52.9 / 28
04mins. / 1:53.2 / 28
06mins. / 2:37.4 / 24
08mins. / 1:58.5 / 28
10mins. / 1:55.3 / 29
Total: 2468m / 2:01.5
I had a mental and physical breakdown after four minutes. The legs simply didn't want to keep working, I guess they still had the mountainbiking and running over the weekend in them. At least the first four minutes gave me a new SB for 1k. I was so angry with myself that I decided to do a 500m TT to see if the sprinting last month had done anything good. The result was a new SB in 1:39.6 (was 1:43.0), so the session had at least something good I suppose.

Peter, don't worry about your breakdown, you'll no doubt be back stronger. At least you ended up with two new season's bests! =D> =D>

Don't be so hard on yourself Peter, if you have been mountain biking and running your legs were probably too tired. Have a couple of days break and try again you will be fine

Thanks Alan, I will have at least one more go, the question is when. Re: September CTC: Tribesports Ten
Rainy and windy today, so no OTW for this fair weather rower. Instead, I thought I would get a entry in for the September CTC. I started with a Fletcher warmup and then set off with a target pace of 1:48. The going got tough about halfway through and I needed to slow down a little from 7' to about 8:30. At that point the red mist descended and I counted down strokes to the end.
End Result: 2788m, avg pace: 1:47.6
That puts me in boat 1 for the moment, but I doubt that will last. It was close to a maximal effort. I might get a couple more meters with an easier warmup, but only a few. I was above 95% of my max HR for the last 5 minutes of the row.
Here's a pretty picture of the HR, pace and rate

Re: September CTC: Tribesports Ten
Had my first go and I think I paced it about right for my form at the moment as I was huffing and puffing a lot at the end!
2 min splits were:
512m - 1:57.1 (steady start)
520m - 1:55.3 (target was 1:55 average so getting there)
526m - 1:54.0 (need to pull the average down so need to crack on - hurting a bit now)
527m - 1:53.8 (just holding until the last 2mins)
547m - 1:49.6 (emptied what was left in the tanks).
First 4 splits at 29spm and the last at 31SPM
Total was 2632m @ 1:53.9 average - pleased enough with that.

Very impressive ctc Greg, well done! (from another fair weather rower )
Nice ctc Dave, the food on that cruise ship must have been good! No wonder you were huffing and puffing towards the end if you're pulling a pace 4 seconds quicker. But the remaining time starting with "1:xx" helps, doesn't it?

Well done Greg and Dave - that moves the light blue boats up a bit in the dark blue sea
Dave - I trust you weren't trying to single-handedly row that cruise ship along, wonder what its drag factor would be ...

Well done all =D> =D>
Alan, that's very impressive. I predict I'll get nowhere near it!
Plummy, you will be my target.
Peter, thanks but with my height and weight, short sprints I can do no matter how fit!

Is that a fair fight? (given you have a height, reach, weight and age advantages) - or should I be flattered?Wolfmiester wrote:Well done all =D> =D>

Well, this could just as well been posted as new PB (and SB as I first started this summer) If you would have told me a month ago that I could pull it of I would have declared you insane but here the results of 123kg in action:

Re: September CTC: Tribesports Ten
Amazing efforts everyone. Too many names to mention since I last posted - but Tako, that was a fantastic effort.
I decided to have a run at this at 28spm today - with the only thought being to hold 1:46 on the screen. I got bloody close to my earlier attempt (2864) at 30spm! Will likely have another bash at a full on effort on Saturday if I feel ok. Need to beat Chris Kelly!!

That is really something, Tako. Powerful strokes at the end with hardly any increase in heart rate. Might be a secret weapon for you.
Another fine row, John. Were you using the CTC for this experiment just because you had a recent effort to compare to?

Yes, but also because it's a perfect duration. Longer than a 2k - so it makes a 2k fly by in comparison, and also takes a good chunk out of a 5k too, and as such I'm hoping I won't have to drop too much to complete the 5k next weekend.

Re: September CTC: Tribesports Ten
That's an amazing row Tako giving you had started just this summer =D> I think indoor rowing is your kind of sports. I've never seen someone before with a DEcreasing stroke rate during the finish sprint I'd say you'll be at 1:48 pace by month's end.
Very nice row John, can't wait to see your full on attempt.
Had my second go at this after a desastrous first attempt with almost a h/d in the middle. That was a 2:01.6 pace (2468m) and the plan was to start out at 1:59 this time and speed up every two minutes:
02mins. / 1:58.8 / 27 / 154
04mins. / 1:58.8 / 27 / 157
06mins. / 1:56.7 / 28 / 166
08mins. / 1:53.6 / 29 / 171
10mins. / 1:47.9 / 31 / 181
Total: 2609m / 1:54.9
Legs were much fresher this time and the row went pretty much according to plan. Next time I must start around 1:55 pace instead of 1:59 or I will never catch Steve and Dave (Alan is too far away anyway ). Nevertheless happy with an improvement by 141m.

Re: September CTC: Tribesports Ten
Thank you all for the great feedback! I am not following any training program (yet) but rather follow the challenges (like rowlympics and dog days) to workout a bit and to improve my fitness/shape. Also RowPro is great fun. Never thought that the speed would come one day, but I see it all slowly improving, so I will definitely give the 10min another go before the end of the month/CTC Sept. However, I probably still need to improve my technique, as my rower starts moving/sliding when I try sprints (100/500/1000m) and get too wild. Anyway, so far a good start of a hopefully long series of CTC contributions Already signed up for the Team challenge at c2.

Some impressive rows going on.
Tako the erg jumping around at sprint speeds is a common problem. At Madchester (a FS gathering earlier this year) a number of us were standing on the ergs to hold them down whilst the musclemen pounded away. At the pace you are going you must have good technique already.

Good to know. The people working for the Norwegian C2 office said the jumping/sliding of the erg was due to one going too wildRob C wrote: ... the erg jumping around at sprint speeds is a common problem. I'm really looking forward to my first real physical gathering. Ordered the free spirit kit yesterday
