September CTC: Tribesports Ten
Nice early announcement, plucked from Facebook:
Tribesports would like to announce its selection for the September 2016 CTC:
The Tribesports Ten
No intervals. No restrictions. No calculator. Ten minutes. Standing start. Record distance.
Should be a popular one, I think.

Most likely a popular choice - think I will like this one...

September CTC: Tribesports Ten
Ahh, that's better! 1st attempt today, tried not to go off too aggressively so pretty happy with that. Hopefully would like to have 4 or 5 goes at this and would like to go decently sub 1:45 by the end of the month. Good luck to all Free Spirits doing this challenge. It's nice and simple so hopefully a good turnout.

Re: September CTC: Tribesports Ten
I also decided to put in an early entry. I haven't done any endurance rowing for the past month or so and it really showed in how I performed in today's effort. I managed 2,684m @ 1:51.8, which is only marginally faster than my 5k pace from Madchester in June. I'm going to try to do at least one effort a week and hope to get to at least 2,750m by month end.

Yay me, I'm in FS I OK it won't last and I'll be lucky to end up even in FS V by the end of this but I can at least dream for 5 minutes [-o<
As I've been slacking recently I'm a bit off pace. But I thought I'd try for around my 2k pace and see what happens. Looks like I was quite close, but definitely struggled towards the end as my HR climbed.

Re: September CTC: Tribesports Ten
You all are downright inspiring! Well done, everyone!
I haven't down any UT1 workouts in over 6 months. I thought I'd start with conservative 185 watts (around 2:04) and then bump it up every 2 minutes.
Turned out the 'conservative' pace was far too fast.
Rather painful. But now I have a marker for next time.

Re: September CTC: Tribesports Ten
Well done guys we've got quite a few entrants for this challenge already so myself and Jan saw the chance to get the first boat floated by rowing this today.
I hope to improve this over the month but pretty happy with this as a first attempt, it's just 1.1 seconds outside my 2K pace from last year so there is room for improvement in both I think.
I can see this challenge being an opportunity to get a record turnout

Re: September CTC: Tribesports Ten
Yes, that second last interval looks really painful. Pace dropped with heart rate rising, that's never a pleasant experience! Well done for pulling it back in the final two minutes! =D>zootMutant wrote:Rather painful.
Exactly! If you start out around 2:06 pace for the first four minutes and then go down to 2:05 in the following four minutes you'd already be at 2:05.5 pace. If you squeeze out a 2:02 pace again in the final two minutes you should end up with a 2:04.8 overall pace. That's your race plan, now you just have to stick to it!zootMutant wrote:But now I have a marker for next time.
Well done to Sheena and Jan for floating the first boat at all in this ctc! =D>

Same feeling here - good to have the first boat floating and to be in it Well done to all the early rowers =D>Rob C wrote:Yay me, I'm in FS I OK it won't last and I'll be lucky to end up even in FS V by the end of this but I can at least dream for 5 minutes [-o<
I was pleasantly surprised with this challenge, started out a bit slower than my current 2k time, doing 1:57 - 1:58 for the first 8 minutes. Then a speed up in the last 2 minutes:
10:00.0 2,573m 1:56.6 221 1060 29 166
2:00.0 511m 1:57.4 216 1042 28 158
4:00.0 512m 1:57.1 217 1046 29 164
6:00.0 513m 1:56.9 219 1053 29 168
8:00.0 511m 1:57.4 216 1042 29 168
10:00.0 527m 1:53.8 237 1115 31 176
I was pleased to see that my heart rate levelled out at 168 before I started speeding up in the last 2 minutes. That gives hope that there's still room for improvement.-

As you're just starting up again I'm expecting that by the end of the month you'll be well above me in the ranking - so step on it

Re: September CTC: Tribesports Ten
Sheena,
I'll give it a go, but I doubt I'll be troubling your times for a while.
When I was rowing regularly, a few years ago, I was down to 2:20 ish splits, but I was always doing longer distances. Never really got down to 2k and below, so this is new for me
I guess it will be 2 or 3 months at least to get back to some level of cardio fitness, depending on how much the job interferes.
Let's see!

Re: September CTC: Tribesports Ten
Just had my first attempt at this. 2865. Needless to say I love this month's challenge. Wimped out a bit, so looking forward to my next attempt. Hoping I can hold 1:45 and sprint on the next one, then 1:44 and sprint by the end of the month. If I can a mange 1:43 I'll be happy as someone who though it was Monday but found out it was Saturday!!

Great effort John =D>
I don't mind being kicked out of boat 1, it was bound to happen
As you, I'm looking forward to improving over the rest of the month (fingers crossed ...)

Every time I get kicked out of a boat, that boat floats a little higher There's a good aspect to everything. Will try this one in two days. But can only guess at the pace, because had poor sleep before my 2k TT last month.

2558 - room for improvement, but it's a start.
57 years old, 5"10', clinging on to 75kg and frustratingly but understandably inconsistent

Well done everyone so far =D>
I had a go at this on Saturday morning and had a target of 1:52 based on my 2k time this season of just under 1:50 pace, managed a reasonable level of control for a change, but had to speed up my stroke rate to get under 1:52 in the last 2 mins.
10'-2689-1:51.5-36
2'-537-1:51.7-33
4'-535-1:52.1-35
6'-536-1:51.9-36
8'-533-1:52.5-36
10'-548-1:49.4-40
Happy enough with that after a couple of poor CTCs recently

Well done Alan, that will be hard to beat for me, if at all! =D> I wouldn't say you had poor ctc entries recently. Last month you beat me by quite a margin (not to mention Steve who seems to be flying at the moment).strider77 wrote:Happy enough with that after a couple of poor CTCs recently
I'll have a go tonight, but I doubt I can beat a 1:53 pace.

Hi Tako, go to c2ctc.com and click on add or update a person tab in top right corner. Fill in your details, row like crazy for 10 minutes and hopefully help float some more boats for Free Spirits!
