Thanks Paul. I don't think I'll ever make it to fastest. Hopefully I won't slide too far down the list though.
It's not how far you go... It's how go you far.

Re: August ctc - 400/300/200/100 done separately, total of 500m splits counts
Some incredible rowing from everyone, I did mine in 2 stints the 200 and 300 last week and today the 100 and 400, not really a great fan of sprints being somewhat short in stature and rotund of frame
Too many pies and alcoholic beverages over the years I fear
Thats the excuses out of the way, results below.
100m - 0:17.6 - 1:28.0-SB and fastest for 2 years
200m - 0:36.2 - 1:30.5
300m - 0:55.5 - 1:32.5
400m - 1:15.2 - 1:34.0
Total 6:05.0 so well done Steve just left for Peter to beat me now
By the way Steve I think your total is 6:01.2 not 6:00.5 but you still beat me by a LONG way-well done =D>

Well done Alan, impressive SB on the 100m =D>
I've been doing a few 100m attempts in between my normal rowing this week, and am pleased to see my technique and times improving (in particular I'm now using shorter faster strokes which seems to work). My previous time was 20.1 seconds, and the times this week were 19.8, 19.7 and finally 19.3 seconds. That was a 1:36.5 pace, at an average 43 stroke rate, finishing at a 48 stroke rate.
Will try to improve the other distances over the weekend before updating the CTC results.

Re: August ctc - 400/300/200/100 done separately, total of 500m splits counts
Well the Paul Victory school of Top Tips worked again. I had another crack at the 400m with increased DF and moving the footplate and managed to bring the time down from 1:23.0 to 1:17.2. I completely ran out of steam in the last 100m . But the pace of my 400m (1:36.5) is now quite a lot quicker than the 300m (1:37.5), so that's the obvious next target.Paul Victory wrote: I think that's definitely the way to go Jon. As you say, the 400m is the most obvious target. Maybe try moving up the DF a bit and possibly also moving the footplate up a notch. I normally row at footplate setting 4 (2 holes showing) but use setting 3 (3 holes showing) for sprints.
That moved me up from 98th to 92nd - 1 place behind my usual nemesis Mr Plumb, and still in FS III, which I think I managed to bump up a couple of places, but is still ashore.

Re: August ctc - 400/300/200/100 done separately, total of 500m splits counts
I managed to make some improvements at all the distances this week, there may be a bit more to come before the end of the month. Previous times in brackets.
100m - 1:52.0 (1.54.0)
200m - 1.52.7 (1.54.5)
300m - 1.54.0 (1.55.3)
400m - 1.56.7 (1.58.1)
I had a go at my 500m and improved that too from last year, I think after this month I'll feel like I've done enough sprinting for the year!

Great improvements all - I feel like I'm aiming at a moving target
After doing the 400m yesterday, today I re-did the 200 and 300m,with the advice of Paul's fellow Irishmen in mind (see the Sanctuary ). It seemed to work quite well, especially for the 200m
These are my new times:
100m - 0:19.3 - 1:36.5
200m - 0:38.4 - 1:36.0
300m - 0:59.4 - 1:39.0
400m - 1:21.5 - 1:41.8
which adds up to 6:33.3.
There's probably still some improvement to be had, but I'll give the legs a bit of a rest for now and try again later this month.

I'm here I've been rowing on the water lately as summer has finally arrived in Grobitown. I might have a first go tonight, most probably all distances in one setting to have a first marker (certainly well behind you and Steve).strider77 wrote:Peter where are you ?

Yeah, come on Peter
Improved my 400 by 2s today (1:14.4 to 1:12.4 pace 1:30.5)
that's now quicker pace than my 300 , so that will be next.
Alan, I agree that the result doesn't seem right. My new entry is relative to ave pace of 1:29.5 but I can't see how it works it out. BUT, all I've done is used the calc link from the CTC page

Improved by 200m by 0.3 seconds from 33.4 to 33.1. Overall score 0.8 seconds better at 5:41.6. Moved me up 1 place in the individual rankings, but didn't make any difference to my position in the boat or the boat's position in the team rankings.

I am planning to do this but over several days.Paul Victory wrote:We still have only one boat floating. Where have all the ladies gone?
Had my first attempt at the 400m yesterday - 1.43.1 - 2.08.9
Today's attempt - 1.40.5 - 2.05.6
Tomorrow I'll try the 300m - don't think I'll have more than a couple of goes at each distance.

Thought it was about time to try and get a time for a couple of the distances for this month.
Reading the comments from others I decided to do the 100 and 400 in 1 session today
An easy warm up with the 100 first in 18.6 (1:33.0) and the 400 another 10 minutes later in 1:22.3 (1:42.9)
Given recent back problems am just glad to have completed them without causing any problems and not too worried by the times. Planning to do the other 2 tomorrow
Has just remined me that I don't like sprints!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: August ctc - 400/300/200/100 done separately, total of 500m splits counts
Managed to knock 1 second off my 300m time today - revised time 1:51.4, which beats my 300m PB (from Grimsby, many years ago) by 0.8 seconds. Overall score now 5:39.9.
I was hoping to break 5:40 by the end of the month and I've made it with nearly two weeks to spare. Not sure there's a lot of room left for further improvement, but I'll do my best.
The lovely Jennifer has nearly fully recovered from her foot injury and has agreed to give the challenge a go over the weekend.

Well done Dave.
Jennifer did the challenge as promised today. First time on an erg since she injured her foot back in February. She didn't try to push it - just did the meters for a total score of 9:06.3. We now have a second boat floating and hopefully Jennifer's efforts will inspire some of our other female members to follow suit. Come on - you know you want to!
