Well done Dave. =D> =D> =D>

The only way to delete a CTC entry is to get Dougie Lawson to do it. If you click on the link at the top of the CTC page, it will bring you to the Concept 2 US forum, where you can post a message to Dougie or send him a PM (his user name is Citroen). You'll have to sign up to the US forum, but that's quite straightforward.

By the way, Dougie considers Facebook to be a blight on humanity (although I'm not sure those are his exact words  ) so the forum is the only way I know of contacting him.

Oh my, I guess I could also post this on the "missing mojo" thread. After a forced rest from any sports activity in the first half of the month due to a nasty lumbago I not only lost fitness but also motivation it seems. I did have three attempts since I recovered but handled down in all of them. Despite the warm and humid weather I decided to have another go yesterday.Plan was to go a bit quicker than in the first two reps of my last go (rep #3 didnt happen  ), so anything quicker than 1:58.9. Well, that was the plan and this is the ugly truth:

1 / 1:57.8 / 11:03.3
2 / 1:57.6 / 11:01.8
3 / 2:03.8 / 11:36.9

After rep #2 again I felt the very strong desire to handle down again. But then I decided to see how I feel after the rest and finish the last interval however bad it might be. At least I was quicker and had gone farther than in any of my previous efforts, so I tried to get some motivation from that point. That motivation lasted for exactly 600m when I did handle down  Picked it up again, pulled it home somehow and was completely knackered afterwards. Well the good news I guess is that I finally have a score for the team. It's supposed to cool off a bit in the next days, so hopefully I can have a more successful go in the next couple of days.

Well done on finishing Peter. That's more than a few of us have been doing recently!

My legs are STILL sore from the 12 mile hike on Saturday but not so much as yesterday (which was a struggle) - so I'll have a little paddle tonight but nothing either far or fast.

Thanks Dave and Steve. Looking at your times Steve it seems we had a very similar experience with this ctc  I only hope I can improve in my nex tattempt like you did!

No chance of catching Alan by the way, I think he beat us both this month =D>

Well done Dave once HWT now LWT, Steve and Peter =D> =D> =D>

Of course what you do not see Peter are all the other times I have tried this and handled down, it really is a tough one

My last "go" was on Saturday when I thought I would set up a pace boat for 1:55.4 to just beat Claudius who had gone past me with his 1:55.5

I managed the first one Ok at 1:55.4 but could not even manage a second

The very hot humid weather has not helped with this sort of challenge.

Good luck Peter when you try this again

I plan to do this on Friday. Between my overloaded schedule and a solid week of heat warnings here I have done very little rowing this month. I won't have a very impressive score to turn in, but it will be better than nothing. Haven't missed one since I started and I don't intend to now. :)

Haven't done a CTC for a few months as had end of OTW season and since then been doing Sam Blyth's erg plan so that was enough! Planning on squeezing this one in before the end of the month but not sure about pacing - for those who have done it, is it around 5k + 3 seconds? (That is what I am guessing!)

Thanks!

I will only have time to do this one once so don't want to mess up the pacing if I can help it!!

If you're only going to do it once, then 5k + 3 seems like a reasonable target. If you wanted to really challenge yourself, 5k + 1 might be doable, but you would greatly increase the risk of blowing up in the third interval.

I did this CTC 10 days ago. The result was nothing to write home (or on this forum) about, but in line with my current state of fitness.
The surprising part though was that at the end of the last interval, I saw my highest ever HR since I'm wearing the strap: 201.
Previous highest was 198. I must be growing younger! :P

Having read all the posts beforehand I was really looking forward to doing this.............not

Having had problems with my back over the past weeks I just try to keep a steady pace for each with the aim of completing it. A few mental aruments with myself during the 3rd one to keep going.

Nothing special but happy my slowest wasn't the 3rd rep

Well done Dave, I gave it a go today too.

My target was to get in to boat 1 (for the first time), however short lived it might be, as I can see a few heavy weights pushing me out
Just made it:
12:53.0 - 2.17.4
12.53.1 - 2.17.4
12.51.6 - 2.17.1

The faster last rep possibly means I could go a bit quicker at the start but I don't think I'll be doing it again this month.

I'm much happier with this month's CTC performance than last month when we were just back from holiday, I'm starting to feel I've got back to where I was before the 3 week break from rowing.

Nice session Sheena, you got the pacing spot on it seems! =D>

Good to see you rowing again Dave, you chose quite a nasty ctc for your comeback :D
strider77 wrote:The very hot humid weather has not helped with this sort of challenge.

Thanks Alan and yes, the humid weather was/is extremely annoying for this kind of activity. It had cooled off a bit yesterday (well, 2° maybe...) so I had another go, my fifth so far. Plan was to do the first two reps with last session's overall average pace (1:59.8) and then see how a faster (if possible...) third rep feels. This is how it went (last attempt in parenthesis):

1 / 1:58.1 / 11:04.9 (1:57.8 / 11:03.3)
2 / 1:57.9 / 11:03.7 (1:57.6 / 11:01.8 )
3 / 1:57.5 / 11:01.3 (2:03.8 / 11:36.9)

That's more how I like it! A 1:59.8 pace felt surprisingly comfortable in the beginning so I decided to change my plan and start out faster. The fact that this faster pace was quicker than Steve's certainly had nothing to do with my decision :^o Thankfully I could hold and beat this pace in rep #2 and #3 so my overall pacing was much more even this time. I also had some "mental arguments" in the final rep but was able to chase those h/d demons away. So quite happy with this one, not shure if I should have a sixth go.

Thanks Paul for pacing comments - rather than 5k+3 as I was planning I decided to go with 5k+2 instead based on what you said. I really didn't want to limp to finish line or HD on this session, rather wanted a reasonably challenging but doable session that I didn't hate :D

Usually with these sorts of session my spm creeps up a bit across the reps, but was happy my spm was 24 for all 3 reps - might be side effect of doing Sam Blyth's plan for last 8 weeks with more focus on power per stroke than my usual training has. Ended up with:

2:03.7 @ 24
2:03.5 @ 24
2:03.5 @ 24

Was definitely not easy but was in the 'hard but not too hard' zone I was after!!

Congrats to Sheena for your session, it's not an easy one!!

We now have a few more ladies on the board and coming up (as per earlier promises :) ) so it looks like we may be short on lightweight men

HR was really high but think that's mostly due to the rainforest like conditions. 180bpm in cooler temps is usually where things start to become pretty uncomfortable. This was only moderately uncomfortable. Given my lack of hard rows recently I'm satisfied.

I decided to have my second attempt at this today to try to get back into boat 2. I did 6 minutes warm up and then set off at around 1:52 pace, which would get me home in around 10:30 compared to my previous effort of 10:46.

I managed to keep the pace around the 1:52 mark during the first interval but it was a real struggle and I finished in 10:30.5. I felt pretty tired and debated whether I'd get back on the erg for the second interval, but managed to convince myself that my second wind would arrive from somewhere. After about 500m of the second interval I began to really struggle and my pace kept drifting out. I had promised myself that I wouldn't HD, but I had to slow right down in order to keep going and limped home in just over 10:51. #-o As this was 5 seconds slower than my previous result, there was no way I could motivate myself to do a third interval.

I did a slowish 20 minutes cool down to bring my total meters for the day to just under 12k. I think I'll take tomorrow off and try to have one last go at this on Sunday. Or maybe not. :fswink:
