Revisited this one at 24 rate. Ouch. Was quite happy to be done until I realized my PB is one meter farther at 7289. ](*,) Actually quite pleased with it, for now.

Gaah! The advantage of hindsight. You could have pushed that last split through at 25spm to bag a new PB.

At least you know it's there for the taking at a free SPM rating

Paul: Great row. Really good judgement bringing up the rate at the end. I guess you knew you had the room for the extra strokes. I'm so paranoid about "wasting" the effort that I was paralyzed into holding the same rate through the end.

Barbara: I feel your pain. I've just missed bagging a PB a couple of times because I didn't check before hand, and it's pretty frustrating. Plummy is right that you can certainly go back and get the PB by going free rate. I don't know about you, but I remember how I felt at the end of this CTC and I'm not ready to feel that way again though.

Had an interesting go at this - was using a PureGym so hadn't used the machine before. Got on did a 2K warm up with short bursts, then dug in with 7000 as a target (previous 6828).

The machine was on a slippy carpet tiles so after 10 minutes I had worked/walked it backwards so I was touching the wall with my back which is most disconcerting so I had to unstrap and shift the machine forward and start up again. I had to repeat at 20'. My back is now much sorer than usual so there must have been extra tension (or it could just be r24 thats doing it)

Sadly although I tried to compensate the lost strokes I ended up at 23 average, so had at least another 20 I could have fitted in.

Happy to have reached 7032 m (2:07.9)@23SPM though

Mark, good result especially considering the moving machine, at Madchester we had to stand on the legs.

I wasn't looking forward to this challenge as we are just back from three weeks away on holiday having consumed too much food and wine, jet lagged and no rowing, but after the valiant efforts of Barbara, Jill and Kirstin I thought I can't let the side down and best get another boat floated as we seem to be short on the ladies this month.

I ended up being about 300m off my PB but I did hit a new max heart rate at the end

Speaking of new maximum heartrates - I managed one too on my second effort tonight. Previous best was 175 for a couple of seconds but managed to attain 176 in the last knockings of this one. Managed to squeeze over 7500 with 7517m (previous effort was 7475m and my free rate SB is 7555m)

A couple of serious HD thoughts but hung on - just.

Excellent work team. Plummy, as I get better I hope to do each of the distances at 2:00 splits - I recall getting to 7500m was hard. 10km nearly killed me, and I never did make 15000 for 60'. That is a target, but the work of a year or more

Yayyyyyyyy she's back! Hope the 3 weeks was fabulous Sheena. Hi to Jan. Very nice CTC -- thanks for floating a boat on "what's this river again?" and if I could find my HR belt  I'd be trying the fancy charts again.

So proud of Jill for her effort on this one. And Kirstin continues to rocket skyward though sheer determination and hard work.

Nice job to the gentlemen as well! Strong as always, Paul. Good going Mark, slippy tiles and back to the wall (very distracting). Plummy what's on that new big monitor that's got your HR going so? Greg hope the fluid's enjoying the summer.

Happy July all.

Well done everybody - I didn't manage to get a good row in after the trip to Canada, so ended up entering a test run that I did before we went on holiday (did a couple of attempts but found that I wasn't able to beat my test run)
Not sure whether it's the effect of our sampling of the excellent British Columbia wines :D or the hiking that we've been doing, but for some reason I now find it hard to get a comfortable seat position for more than a few k. Will have to build up again starting with shorter distances I guess.

Hi Barbara, we found a nice place for OTW rowing, just in case your reservoir runs dry completely :) Here's a picture of the view from our cabin on Upper Campbell Lake in Strathcona Park on Vancouver Island:
