UPDATED: Forum Software Update... round 2

Post by Thomas W-P »

You will remember me rolling back the recent update.

I have been working on fixes for the issues I had not anticipated, and am optimistic I have a fix. The problems I remember and have fixed were:
  • Meterboard forgetting you were a member and any flag customisations
  • Signature Image generator forgetting you were a member
Have I forgotten any?

I want to make the change for a couple of reasons:
  • Security - the current 3.0.x software is not moving forward and is only being bug fixed. The 3.1.x uses a different approach so will move forward
  • The new software allows me to make static pages - so the whole site can become phpBB based without the challenging corssover between WordPress and phpBB.
I will switch over some time in the next week.

Finally I have got the marathon board working - C2 have still not released their geeky interface to the raw data so I rely on stripping data from the public web pages. And they had slipped one space in to the code that broke everything. #-o

Good luck Thomas! Whatever phpBB is it sounds excellent and I'm sure we need far more of it

Hah!

php = *the* programming language of the web
BB = Bulletin Board (this thing we are using)

http://www.phpBB.com:
THE #1 FREE, OPEN SOURCE BULLETIN BOARD SOFTWARE

phpBB is a free flat-forum bulletin board software solution that can be used to stay in touch with a group of people or can power your entire website. With an extensive database of user-created modifications and styles database containing hundreds of style and image packages to customise your board, you can create a very unique forum in minutes.

No other bulletin board software offers a greater complement of features, while maintaining efficiency and ease of use. Best of all, phpBB is completely free.

Well, it took three efforts, but I think we are up and running with 3.1.

Please post any oddities/not workings on this thread.

I believe that the signature image generator and the meterboard are working.

I am not super happy with the fonts - they look a bit odd to me - so I will keep tweaking.

Thanks for all the work you've continued to put in on this, Thomas. ^O^ ^O^ ^O^

I've noticed a minor bug following the update. Is this the right place to report it? Formatting does not seem to be working following the update - or at any rate bold and italics are no longer working. I haven't tried to change font size or apply colours.

I know the colours look a bit odd, but I am hoping to keep chipping away at that. Definitely worth posting any constructive comments here.

I don't know if you mean this by calling it "a bit odd", but looking at the website from a mobile device (iPad Air in my case) the forum names are almost illegible when you are at "Forum" -> "Board Index".

Second thing I noticed (again on a mobile device) is that the icons for "report" and "quote" are empty, it's both empty boxes only, so you don't know which is which (almost reported you to yourself :x ).

LATER: I have stripped as much as the chaos causing styles as I can quickly. Does this help? I am trying to get the fonts etc. as close to "Vanilla" as I can.

Had to login manually on my phone through Tapatalk. The Tapatalk automatic signing in didn't work. A very minor inconvenience.

Let me know if that is a more than one time event. I have updated the Tapatalk plugin and it should have better functionality now.
