Very impressive performance Sander, especially as you had 30" less rest after the second rep than allowed (1:00 vs. 1:30)!

I'd say yes because you did it a harder way than required. My point is that you'd be even faster with those additional extra 30" rest after the second interval.

Some great times as always folks =D>
Unfortunately I won't be joining the recent enjoyable challenge with Peter, Dave and Alan as I had some surgery earlier in the month and I have not fully recovered yet. Best I can hope for is to paddle a time late next week to get on the board.
Look out for May guys :P

2nd and final effort this month. Did the first one at 34 SPM so lowered that in an attempt to keep some puff for the killer final eight minutes and pretty pleased to keep my target pace throughout ImageImage

Excellent going gentlemen and way way in excess of anything I can manage. ^O^ ^O^ ^O^

I had a second go at the challenge yesterday and really felt that I should be capable of averaging under 1:50 pace. Not to be unfortunately. The first 2 intervals went ago as I was trying to avoid going off too fast and was just keeping the splits around 1:48 or 1:49 with only the occasional 1:50 or 1:51. But I found the third interval tough and I really lost the plot in the middle of teh final interval, with 1:54s and 1:55s coming up.

I managed to pull it back a bit in the final minute to finish with 5428 for a 39m improvement on my previous effort, but it made no difference to my position in FS II, although I think it moved the boat up one place in the rankings. Splits were as follows (previous attempt in brackets):

2:00.0 551 1:48.89 (546)
4:00.0 1097 1:49.39 (1081)
6:00.0 1628 1:50.57 (1608)
8:00.0 2152 1:51.52 (2153)
20:00.0 5428 1:50.54 (5389)
M 68 6'1" 124kg (May05), 92kg (Feb06), 122kg (Aug10), 95kg (Sep11), 117kg (Jun13), now 98kg

Some nice times posted.

Looks like we need a lady so we can get the fourth boat floated. We seem to be well down on numbers compared to last month :(

Rob I agree with you on the lighter participation (Roger would know for sure) but can't guess at the reason. Other than the usual... it's a horrible painfest!

I rowed it on Sunday and, using a trick I've tried recently, I didn't watch the averages at all - just the splits and the rate and the time-to-go. (I covered the rest of the screen.) For some reason this helps me feel less stressed about the piece overall, and work on whatever power I have in the moment. Did not have much pacing strategy other than to "warm up really fast" on the 2:00 and then somewhat flat-paced the rest.

I'd post a pic, but it's late and I need to be up early.

Great job to everyone who has logged times.

I've scheduled an attempt at this tonight. A bit later in the month than usual for me but I've been trying to stick to the Fitness Matters plan (which has left me mostly wasted after sessions). There'll be a score but I'm not expecting miracles.

Hello,

i can feel the effort you all done, congratulations combatans ! I´ve done today my first 2nd attempt, and the last two intervals = very straining. It was that voice in my ears: why are you doing that, you have to do so many other important things, why are you doing that, come on hands down, so it was a fight, and in the end i improved in some meters.

No more further attempts in april

thats it

see u in may

Looks like the fourth boat got floated. I'll do what I can to get the fifth boat floated in a day or two. It won't be pretty though. I've been out sick for the last week.

Yay five boats now afloat. 2 more peeps get's us a sixth.

Meanwhile with all the effort being put in, I had to give it another go.

Now 5116 (was 5016):
2 mins 511m 25spm 01:57.4/500
4 mins 1030m 25spm 01:56.5/500
6 mins 1536m 26spm 01:57.1/500
8 mins 2041m 26spm 01:57.5/500

Not sure I want to do this again, but I find myself just 3 m short of Mr Lindner's distance and on the slow seat of boat IV. That might be too much of a challenge, especially if I find myself evicted ......

Did it, hated the 6 & 8 minutes and massively struggled with any sort of power owing to being unable to keep my heartrate anything like reasonable and this running out of oxygen and just kinda dying. Had to back off to 2:08/2:10 on three occasions just to get my heartrate down to below where I believe my limiter is (for anything over a minute or so) at 163

5220m - seriously not happy with the way it played out although the distance was acceptable-ish

1:50.9 - 549m
1:51.6 - 1075m
1:55.4 - 1559m (wheels fell off well and truly in this one)
1:57.3 - 2046m (never had any wheels on this one)

:( :(

I'm on a structured training plan and seem to be getting worse, not better

Well done to all Free Spirits who have given their all in this particular nasty looking challenge!

Sadly, this will be the first CTC since August 2013 that I'm going to miss due to some persistent health issues. I'm hoping to be back in May or June.

Oh, sad to hear about your health issues, Roger :!: :( And we will miss you on the ctc :!: (This is a timed challenge, so actually you could just pull a few times in each rep, if you feel for it... )

Have a good recovery from present health issues :!:

Dave, I always find it useful to have some kind of a guideline in the ctc from a previous attempt as they are usually unusal :D pieces of training. You did your attempt very late in the month with I guess only a rough idea how to pace it. You should be considerably quicker if you had another go.
strider77 wrote:
Grobi wrote:- Unfortunately that means I have to have another go :fswink:
Do not feel that you have to Peter, if you do it just means more pain for me as I will have to go again and you do not want your good friend Strider to be in pain surely ?
Hi Alan, of course the last thing I want is you being in pain :D Unfortunately I felt the urgent desire to be in pain myself yesterday so I decided to have my third go at this  This is how it went:

2:00 / 1:51.3 / 31
4:00 / 1:52.2 / 29
6:00 / 1:53.1 / 29
8:00 / 1:52.0 / 30

Total: 5342m / 1:52.3 / 29

Before this session I didn't really know what to expect. I had been on a holiday for one week so I didn't know if that had had an effect on my fitness. Apparently it hadn't  I was sticking to last time's pace more or less in the first three reps and tried to wind it up in the last one. To my big surprise I was able to be even quicker than in the 4 minutes  Maybe I should have another holiday soon? :D

great work team, more boats floated.

Peter, you are enjoying this far too much :-)
I wonder if Al will respond?

After an aborted attempt on Tue (way too early) I got through a session today.
posted 5135 @1:56.8, which I'm more than happy with.

Thanks Peter  My good Friend

So tomorrow at 6 am you will see this little old man red faced in the corner of the gym sweating profusely with his eyes shut to dull the pain, all in the name of friendly rivalry

Seeing as I got unceremoniously tipped out of Boat IV, I had to try and reclaim my spot. Somehow I've grabbed the front seat in FS IV again, but I'm sure someone will change that for me.

Managed 5164m ave 01:56.1 @26spm (was 5116 a couple of days ago).

2min 516m 146 HR
4min 1044m 159 HR (that's already too high a HR)
6min 1553m 165 HR (stop the erg I need to get off)
8min 2052m 167 HR (this is horrible, I don't know how I kept going)

I'd point out that that last 8min row was actually faster than my 2k PB

I have nothing more to offer. I'm spent. I'm going to take the rest of this rowing season off.
