Great numbers zootMutant! Congrats on breaking the 100! =D>
Sounds like we share some common views :fswink: I also measure weight in order to monitor dehydration, and use body measurements and PBs to measure progress. However, I have to admit that the monitored weightloss that comes with regular work-outs is also motivation to train more just as much as all the challenges and PBs

Yeah, nice one, Zoot. Great progress.

May to Aug looks like a great Summer was had. Now you dropped back into weight-loss mode with a big drop for one month.

I managed to get in some metres before the first long drive, and managed to avoid rewarding myself with beer and fish n chips when I got there, so I've fairly pleased.

Maybe we should make our next choice at the C2CTC month a "most weight lost from the boat over a month" challenge :-) That would fox those FM folks.

Very happy so far.

Very good numbers. How do you calculate the fat vs muscle loss? - the gym chap insists that the weight gain is almost certainly muscle, but I'm more of a objective fact kind of mindset....

Actually that should have said 'Lean' instead of 'Muscle'.

I have 2 methods: a formula based on my body measurements; and a bathroom scale.

The formula doesn't fluctuate much from week to week... which is good, because then I don't become fixated on short-term results. On the other hand, the bathroom scale reports about 4-6% more body fat than the formula. (I think the bathroom scale is more realistic).

But it's not the absolute numbers that I'm interested in: it's the trend.

If you are gaining weight and your measurements (hips, waist) are decreasing, then I'd say the increase is muscle.

Thanks :) - agree very much with the trend point, so I think a measuring tape is called for.

Hmm. Still on 13st 11lbs this week, so no loss at all.

Maybe that's all I could expect for nearly a thousand miles of driving, many hours in meetings, hotel food, and almost no proper exercise.

This week starts the same, with 3 hours on the train and taxi (watch out, Leeds, here I come), but should get better later on.

How are the rest of you doing?

Busily stumbling towards that first 1 million (water rower measured mind you), and awaiting the delivery of a tape/caliper set

I'll start a log of +/- change on waist, hips, thigh, bicep to see if I can get a better handle on improvements.

A mixed week for me. A lot of physical labour mixed with not enough quality food led to a drop of over 3 pounds. According to my scale, a lot of it was muscle... probably because I was too low on calories. For me, 1-1/2 to 2 pounds is sustainable... more than that and I'm just cannibalizing myself.

Tomorrow is one of those "drive for 7 hours/work for 8 hours" days. Very hard to eat well when I'm on the road. Traffic makes me grumpy and I end up stopping somewhere and eating junk or going hungry.

Dropped a tiny bit to 13st 10lbs, so one pound lost over the week.

Very surprised after a bar-b-que at the weekend.

10lb more to go. Might try and aim for 13st by Christmas Eve.

Good luck with the measurements, Ian.

First weigh in since my trip to Alvor. I've been a bit more sensible over the last few days and I've finally managed to get back down into double figures. Still about 5 kgs above my fighting weight, but at least I'm out of the red zone. I'll try to behave myself at the wedding today!

Nice one, Paul.

You only have to behave on the eating side. Bad dancing and chatting up bridesmaids is obligatory.

That will take some dedication... but it looks like you have everything under control, so I think you'll make it. Good luck!

Keep in mind that your measurements will change much slower than the weight that you see on a scale, so don't get discouraged! On the other hand, your measurements won't bounce up and down, so any reduction really is significant! Good luck!

===============

After several weeks of too rapid progress, I hit the sweet spot this week -- with a drop of only 0.6 pounds but with 1/2" off my waist and 1/2" off my hips. I interpret this to mean I ate enough food to add some muscle, while losing some fat. Doesn't happen that way very often. 8)

I wish I'd seen this before I headed off to the wedding. I never got around to chatting up the bridesmaids (and there were 4 of them, so plenty of opportunities there), but unfortunately I didn't behave on the eating side. #-o

Maybe that's why I was so slow today. :?

Well done, Zoot. Steady progress, and reducing measurements, is bang on.

Paul: disappointed about the bridesmaids. Any bad dancing you can score as aerobic training?

I don't think I've lost anything this week, but lots of 10k's in October sounds like just the job to help with that.

Ian: what say the tape and pincers?

User error and other matters got in the way - weight marginally down, so I'll try and see what the measurement figures look like this evening....

I've had a couple of good (for me) 10km rows, so I'm hopeful that I'll see some progress. I saw the 10km challenge too, but think the chances of me hogging a gym erg for the necessary 45 minutes or so are limited.

Well the tape/weight measuring has thus far shown that I can put on weight without changing measurements....

I think the other half (also attempting weight loss but without rower use - more affinity with yoga) was right in keeping measurements once a fortnight.

On the plus side, I was left to my own devices on the gym c2 for a full 30 minutes last night so there is a merest chance of posting at least one time on the 10km challenge....

My next targets:

193 -- 2002

With a 10K CTC this month (and a 1,609 m IRL), I'm hoping to start mixing more cardio with my morning weight routine. I'm a little ambivalent... the weights are working so well, but I need cardio fitness, too! 8)

Cheers,

Nice work =D> =D> =D>

I'm hopeful the extra motivation of seeing just how my waterrower times compare with C2 times will help with the 10km challenge. Could be a good month for progress.

With the aid of the Pete plan, I've just crossed over 1 million waterrower metres - onwards upwards!

Having not erged since early Sept, I then indulged in an almost all inclusive "activity" holiday. That should have been sort of sporting with sailing stuff and even tennis (or in my case I have a bat but where did the ball go) however one of the main activities involved emptying of walled and raising the right arm at a bar, with the second involving numerous trips to the buffet. It's all gone wrong and I'm too embarrassed to put up any weight update this month.
