Been a bit headless chicken syndrome since mid afternoon so if I've just read this correctly you ARE coming and have both weekends available?? If so, that is awesome ^O^ ^O^

Now, fellow Free Spirits, especially those who've been to Madchester before, please step up and show some interest. For those who are UK based (or local EU based) it's mostly a team social, fun, training day in a garden with a marquee and ergs and food and beer to follow

Hi Plummy,

If there's space for 2 more, then me and my wife Sheena would like to come along. Either weekend would be fine.
It's only a short trip across the M62 for us, and we could bring our erg if that's helpful.
We could also bring some doughnuts if Jill will allow it

Definitely space for more (the numbers were a bit worrying low to be honest - not sure where the "old guard" are at the moment) and it will be great to see you (and the doughnuts (that'll be donuts for our American visitors  ) will be very welcome as a post row sugar boost.

Chris - as I don't know a local butcher, maybe bringing a nice lamb could prove a little "messy" but any input on the BBQ duties will be most welcome so we can add an Antipodean slant to the South African one we have already.

For those attending, you need to start thinking about what you want to row (distance/time etc) - please let me know by PM and don't worry, you can change your mind if needs be nearer the time. I will put my usual agenda together and will accommodate individual needs (SB/PB attempts etc) or can arrange them around handicap events (which I think are very popular) - but I need to know as far in advance as possible.
Ideally, I'd like a bit of a mix, not everyone doing the same thing but I'll go with whatever I am presented with.

If the technique "workshop" is wanted again, let me know. Whether it be for those who received some feedback last year or for those who've never had their technique "analysed" (yes, it is a bit scary). We can place an erg away from the others so you can be seen from all angles

The 14th/15th (event on the 14th) is looking the favourite as Peter cannot make the 7th/8th

Sounds great plummy.

At present, I have no thoughts about distance as I'm unable to row and therefore have no idea what condition I'll be in by May. Flights are pretty good value at present, so early confirmation of the date would be great as resources are somewhat deplenished after my recent travels and travails.

There's nothing to choose between the weekends really but the 14th/15th has a chance of Peter's attendance and the 7th does not. Everyone else who has come back so far has said either neither or both so the 14th it is in my book (it's a week later and potentially a fraction warmer and a little lighter longer)

Sounds good to me! I'll wait a couple of days just in case there are any issues before I book my flights.

Barbara, I emailed Dave that I'm still not sure if I can make the 14/15th, but you should go ahead with that weekend. I don't want to delay the process of finding a date so people who have to book flights can do this early enough.

Either I can attend or not and I will let you know as soon as I can.

Sounds good Peter. Dave we are booked in/out of London, so if we're close to nailing down the date, we'll go ahead with arranging the rest of our itinerary... I've not been back to England since I was a teenager and Jack has never been, so trip planning will be very fun for us!

Let's just commit to the 14th/15th (event on the 14th) - there, it's done!

If you are coming "oop north" as we say, how long are you stopping up here - as we are happy to chaperone you a bit if you want guides/company.

That's awesome Dave, thank you. Still sorting the basics... papers, $$$, phone, coverage at home & work. Next I'll try to pin dates to locations! So far -- a rowing pal in London might take me out on the Thames ( 8) 8) ) and Jack has a car racing friend to visit, east coast-ish. I think options to get to/from Manchester are train, bus, car, or short flight. And other than that + tips from my brothers, haven't figured the rest :D

(In particular, your question on which erg events I want to row. I offered Jack to start training up on my erg... Lol. Got quite a look so I had to say "BBQ!" and "beer!" again real quick)

Oooooh :!: Barbara :!: This is so exciting. :D

Although I’m from ‘ darn Sarf ‘, or Hampshire, to be more precise, we live in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, which qualifies as being ‘ ooop North ‘ as well, so I’ll sort of echo Plummy here and say should your itinerary bring you to Yorkshire and I stress here, should you and Jack have time, you’d be most welcome to visit/meet up/ or stay with us. :D

Looking forward to meeting you all - hope that Peter, Paul and Eric will be able to make it. :D
