Re: January ctc - 5000m straight
Just noticed that Alan We must have rowed at the same time, my row was last night about 6:30.
I'm also not happy with my current state of fitness, the christmas effect is still noticeabe. Strong row nevertheless, well done!
I'm just wondering how long it will be until Steve will overtake us?

Smart answer. I thought maybe someone had complained we had too many public displays of affection. But I see Jon and I have been put it separate boats again so it's no longer an issue.Draggon wrote:Based on my experience with women, I believe the correct answer is "No." ??Kirstin wrote: Are you implying something?

rowed again at 13:00 yesterday. I honestly just tried to row a more consistent piece and was not aware of your times.
Better for 19:23.5, so did leap frog you both.
That should be a great target though, good luck.

Quite pleased with myself. Took 57.3 seconds off my time. Thought shaving 30 seconds off would be the best I could do. This puts me back in the same boat with my husband but we will try to behave ourselves.

It was indeed as I had my third go tonight. New time: 19:18.3 (was: 19:28.0). No split times available as I'm on a business trip and the hotel gym has a model C with a PM2 only.Wolfmiester wrote:Better for 19:23.5, so did leap frog you both.

Re: January ctc - 5000m straight
2nd attempt at this for me after recovering from a slight cold which hampered me a little the past 5 days. Target 1 was Greg's score of 17:44 and target 2 was beating pb of 17:52. Didn't quite manage target 1 but happy with a decent controlled row to beat my old pb.

Superb PB Felton! I had visions of temporarily passing you in this month's CTC (I was only 5.5 seconds behind), but you have safely put that idea to bed.

That's an amazing PB reduction over the month Barbara - almost 30 seconds in less than 3 weeks! =D> What pacing strategy did you use for your latest PB? I definitely won't be having another go at the 5k this month so congrats on regaining your seat in the first boat
Looking forward to the Feb CTC already

Felton! Great 5k. Took me 5 years to get that PB. I would have been bummed out if you passed this fast. At your rate of improvement, I think it is inevitable that you will.
I'm pleased to have someone to chase after on the CTCs though.

Re: January ctc - 5000m straight
Ah thanks Amanda. That 30 seconds is just a confidence gap... I have to attack it through repetition, plus sufficient motivation (that's where you came in) - rather than any brilliant pacing on my part.millie wrote:That's an amazing PB reduction over the month Barbara - almost 30 seconds in less than 3 weeks! As for the piece itself -- my PM3 is set to display split averages at the bottom. I think Dave Plumb taught me about that view? I hadn't used it prior, now I use it for every time trial.
For the Jan 14 PB row I set it up as 5 splits (1000 meters each). For the Jan 19 row, I honestly don't know why, but I set it to 3 splits. It's possible I got confused with my usual 15 minute time trial - which I do in three 5 minute segments. So... you're right... something worked, like subconsciously thinking I was only doing 15 mins worth of rowing
That's a bummer. But I get it (other priorities, other training, life, etc). I had to ask myself on Dec 31 - shall I pull that 750x8 interval pain again to try and catch Amanda, or shall I go enjoy New Year's Eve?millie wrote:I definitely won't be having another go at the 5k this month so congrats on regaining your seat in the first boat

Seriously, having someone around the same splits is a fantastic thing. Huw was always a bit faster than me when he was rowing, and then it was fun to watch Dan start slower than me and maintain an amazing rate of improvement as he zipped by me.
We are all in different places in terms of size, weight, fitness, experience and motivation. As long as we wish each other well in the competition, this kind of stuff is what gets my blood pumping and keeps me motivated.

Sander > Monday 25/1 after 1800 GMT
Friday 29/1 any time between 9AM GMT and 4PM GMT
Saturday 30/1 any time between 10AM GMT and 3PM GMT
Sunday 31/1 any time between 10AM GMT and 3PM GMT
Sander, apologies, should have replied sooner. If you're putting up a session, I could likely do the first option (mon 1800 up to 2100)... as of now no work meetings then. The other times are not good as I'm GMT-8.
If you are looking for fast company however, no need to plan around me.
Good luck, whenever you end up doing it!

Here's my 5k PB: I managed 18:24.9 (previous PB 18:26.1). I didn't really rest before rowing this so happy with the result.
Complete story here: https://rowsandall.wordpress.com/2016/0 ... -gas-tank/
Puts me in boat III. I guess my place for this year ... I agree with the comments above about people having similar splits. It is very exciting to have someone who rows just slightly faster now and then. The ideal situation is where it is almost 50/50 in terms of who is faster ...

Re: January ctc - 5000m straight
Oddly, I got a PB yesterday when trying the 5K. - 17:48.5
I say oddly as I thought I was taking it easy for 'taper week'. Hopefully this means I've had a development burst - not that I over did it!
