I haven't rowed for 3 months now owing to a painful left hip. The diagnosis was osteo-arthritis and I have opted for a total hip replacement which will take place on June 10th. Colleagues at the local bowls club who have been through the same procedure have been back on the green in 3 months, so I am hoping that this will also hold good in my case. As regards rowing again, I don't know what the future holds. I miss the exercise and the competition but will have to be guided by the surgeon as to when I can resume. I'm saying when and not if
In the meantime, best wishes to you all in this early stage of the new rowing season.
Tomorrow's contribution on the Extra Limerick thread will be a light-hearted summary of the above info.

Sorry to hear about your troubles, Philip. It's good that you're getting it addressed and there have been great medical advances in this area, so I have no doubt we will see a new, bionic you back on the erg before too long.

All the best with the hip replacement - it will soon be like new afterwards! Not quite the same scale I know, but my mum had a finger joint replaced, and it has been a massive relief to her to be pain free.
I've known people go back to all sorts of exercise post hip op....rock climbing, running, hill walking...I do not know whether their surgeons recommended it, but hey ho - life is short and opportunities are to be taken!

Best wishes Philip for a successful operation and recovery.
Most of us will have to accept some wear and tear sooner or later but as you have kept fit over the years, I'm sure that this will prove to be an advantage.
Looking forward to reading both your limericks tomorrow.
Take care,
Jill

Here's to a speedy recovery, Phillip. Follow doctor's orders and you'll be back better than before.
Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional.
