Now, that *would* be cool - if we could see how we were getting on against you youngsters.

And I am aghast to find I am on the anchor leg.

Come on Spirits, fill those places.

Am I allowed to do a 2 hour stint? Can I do a 1 hour next day too? (Obviously will do less if others want to fill the spaces.)

Put me down provisionally for 2100 to 2300 (at the start), and then the 1900 to 2000 next day.

(There is a chance I may be able to move to the less work-friendly middle of the day hours, but I won't know til nearer the time, so best to commit this way round for now). Also, for those who may struggle to get 14k in an hour, are we going to have some 30 min shifts?

Hi,

Given the time difference (Helsinki is 2 hours ahead of U.K.) I am happy to provisionally take one of the early morning turns.

I don't know Mike - I am making this up as I go along.

Given the nature of Free Spirits I think that any metre matters, or in this case, any MINUTE matters, so let people choose what they want. I will try and persuade Tamsin to do a 20 minute slot in the middle somewhere when I break the latest madness to her :)

And you could always split the 24 hours up between you and Paul Gould and run a third leg...

P.S. I DON'T think we should expect people to ALL do the "333,333m in a day" pace - we'll be "racing" students in teams of, I don't know, 8? 4? And we'll (mostly) be doing an hour or less. I say let anyone row for as long as they like - first come first served. I will be delirious if this comes off to tell the truth. If and when we fill the board we can work out how many metres we might achieve in the day. I may go for a 60 minutes PB for instance, which is (hopefully) well over 15,000 in the hour.

P.P.S. I wonder if any other teams would be interested in putting in a squad for this? I know we are rather large and global, but maybe they could combine? Anyone think it is worth posting in the C2 forum?

Great idea Thomas.

I work at home on a Wednesday and can be flexible between 9am and 3pm. Have gone for 9am at the moment but this can be moved.

I could also do a second clot if required although I've only once before done two sessions in a day.

Could I just clarify what's being attempted here???

Is Big Dave K doing his charity event at Uni (Tim Foster etc) as one event, AND Free Spirits doing a completely separate event in support (and just for the fun/challenge of it)?

I work at home most days so could fit in an hour around UK lunch time 12-1, or 1-2 if needs be (or even 4-5 at a push if I work through lunch) - but you'll not get 15k as this would be a PB (maybe 14.7k ish)

Yes.

The aim is people will post their metres after their row (and add it to the previous person's row). Big Dave K is hoping to be able to track this (and hopefully keep us up to date on his teams) using his WiFi laptop. (Lets hope it does not get nicked whilst he is pulling away!)

Hi all

Looking at the times available, I could do the 0400 or 0500 slot if required.

What distance are you looking for? I can normally do approx 14200 at that time in the morning or if you require 15k then I'll set the rower accordingly.

Let me know.

Post by PSims »

Guys,

This is getting really interesting!

I guess we are talking about resetting the machine to 0 for each rower (cos I think there's a metres limit on the PM2 and PM3).

Does it all have to be done in the same place - or could we achieve this virtually....which means we are more likely to do it across the 24 hours?

If it's all on the same machine, there must be a time for changeovers - anyone know how we do this?

I haven't signed up yet as it looks like I'd have to take a day off work (either cos I'm up all night or actually rowing during the day). Like Mike, if I'm going to do it, would want to put in 2 hours - just not sure how to schedule it yet.

Definitely interested though.

Paul, I think the idea is that we will do this virtually.

We each row a piece on our favourite machine and location but at the time specificied. The metres get logged as we go and we will have to do this in such a way to allow Big Dave to chart progress against his own team's attempt.

Is this correct?

Thomas is really in command here so perhaps I should let him do this.

OK - I could do 23:00 or 05:00 (my kid usually wakes about 5:30 anyway) - not both :D

BUT Only if you want it.... my 60min SB is a very very weak split (see sig) & I don't want to drag down the av split so far it can't be recovered

So if you'd prefer to take a shorter piece to make up the minutes that's fine & I won't take offence (much! )

Let me know!

Go for it Janet - or do 30 minutes. We are Free to do what we like. It does not have to be one hour.

And face it - the students are not going to be in teams of 20 and will be knackered - so we want to give them a chance :D

OK, I need to make sure I have this straight. I'm on US eastern standard time (same as NYC), thus I think that puts me 5 hrs behind GMT.

So if I want to row at 9:00 pm EST, that would be 2:00 GMT, correct?
If so, put me down for that or whatever 9:00 EST corresponds to GMT.

I'm good for ~ 12,500- 13,000 meters, unless I try for a PB which would be over 13,147 meters, if successful.
