Madchester 2015 - confirmed date 20th June 2015

Post by plummy »

Hi all - after a couple of discussions with Jane about whether the Madchester Team Day could be accommodated again, the basic answer is yes - depending on:

1) Whether people are interested enough to want to come along and enjoy the shenanigans/get together/beer/cake/BBQ/tenting. If you are new to the team and have no idea what I am talking about, please feel free to search the forum for the previous Madchester event threads.
We are south Manchester (UK based) to give anyone new a geographical pinpoint (and only 10 mins from Manchester Airport (code - "MAN"))

As it stands we have pencilled in either of the last weekends in June as possibles (20th or 27th being the day of the event and assuming a few may want to stop over until Sunday in local hotels or sleeping off a massive hangover in a hedge somewhere in the garden) - but these are not "absolute" dates as such so if no-one can make either date but can make say early July dates we can compare diaries and see if they could be made to work.

I asked Jane if I can announce this a bit early as people are already booking holidays and I thought the more notice the better and obviously if anyone wants to fly in, the earlier you book, the cheaper it is. (I'm happy to do airport shuttle runs again)

So, shout up if you are interested by posting on here and we'll see f we can make it another day to remember :D :D

Count me in! :fswink: I could do both dates, with a slight preference for the weekend around the 20th.

That's fantastic news! I'm going to Portugal on Monday June 29th, so either day would suit me, but the 20th would be slightly better for me.

Either Saturday would be okay for us.

When we checked out the old Madchester threads and saw the word ' racing ', we both said, " Oh dear... " We'd be very happy to come along with our rubber gloves and help with the washing up. :D

Jane will very much appreciate that I'm sure. There's no obligation to race, you are welcome to come along and just enjoy the get together (and pot washing) :D

I don't officially race anymore either but I would like to come along and do a hard training session depending on what the CTC is that month  if there is a spare erg. I can not bring my own erg because I sold it when I moved unfortunately.

Not sure how often Colin(stumpy) and Lee visit this page but it might be worth sending them a PM. Oh yes and it might also get Laurence out of retirement.

Hi Plummy,

If you go ahead with the 20th, the Shuker's will be there.
We might have to come up on the Saturday morning as I fly back from the Balkans on the Friday and don't know the timing for arrival back in UK. We will stay over on the Saturday though.
I haven't raced for 4 years, but both of us would be up for a training sesh or long row.
Cheers for now,

Nick and Jane.

Hi All! Ah, my heart is warmed already on this cold and wintry day! 8)

I am pretty sure I will not be racing, more flying the flag for participation in a great sport that keeps us all fit and well, so no worries about levels of participation, just a good time to be had by all. Can't wait now! :D

Actually I have to take that back. Weekend around the 27th would suit me better.

Gr8 news for every Free Spirit :!: :D :D :D

At this point I´m "only" doing the EIRC - of course hoping to see many FS there, but the REAL Madchester will be a fantastic event for our FS and if I don´t turn up this year I´m hoping for an opportunity for a future event :!:

I still think we need a bit more re the numbers before committing the time off/effort/cost/ etc to give a definite but given these things can grow exponentially very quickly I'd say it's 90% certain to happen.

Also, the dates seem to be acceptable to most and although Peter says the 27th is better, the 20th isn't a definite no whereas we have 2 x Shukers available on the 20th - so I'm edging towards the 20th if that's ok with Jane...

I will definitely be there if it's the 20th. There's about an 80% chance I'll make it on the 27th. Be good to know sooner rather than later as the cost of flights tends to go up as you get closer to the date.

Bit cheaper with US Airways:

..although it still has a hefty "ouch" factor...

I guess a fair question would be: what month would allow you to consider the trip seriously? We could move the whole thing if needs be as long as it lines up for Jane (I'm easy apart from the last 2 weeks of May when I'm away)

David - please continue your discussions for June! I'm looking with more "interest" than "intent" at this point. Can't wait to see how the event shapes up & I'm sure there could be an option to pop in virtually and wave hello. Yes Jack and I would love to travel over to either London or Manchester for reasons including this one, but it isn't highly likely as of now. It does sound like a great party \:D/ so keep on with the planning! :D =D>

Met up with Jane yesterday and decided that 20th June is the date for the event.

Again, it does depend a bit on firm commitments but as soon as anyone flying in has booked we are kind of committed anyway as we would never cancel it and leave someone out of pocket.

If you are attending and have any idea of any specific rowing you would like to do, please let me know. I will try and put together a timetable of events/fun challenges to make things interesting - and that may include a Rowpro challenge against FS'rs around the globe who can't make it in person

Great initiative, Plummy! ^O^

I don't think I will be coming over from the Netherlands, but it is good to see this kind of real life team activity.

There is a good chance that Free Spirits will be asked to choose the June CTC, so we could choose something that fits well into your Madchester setup.
