Feb CTC - The Tribesports Twenty
A simple, unrestricted twenty minute row from a standing start. Record your best distance.
Nice choice from Tribesports, through Alan Strang (48 CTCs for Free Spirits).
But first, back to the January intervals...

Alan's a hellava nice guy. I met him earlier last year, then again at the SIRC's in December. Always nice to see a friendly face at those things.
Hopefully the 20 minute row will provide good anaerobic endurance training for the races in February and March.
Still got January to deal with though...

Yes, he's a lovely guy. I met him at Madchester a few years back.Recess wrote:Alan's a hellava nice guy. I met him earlier last year, then again at the SIRC's in December. Always nice to see a friendly face at those things.
He was very enthusiastic about setting up challenges and got a bit frustrated when the level of participation fell to the extent that he felt that all the work he was putting in to these challenges wasn't appreciated. He decided to leave Free Spirits and while I understand the reasons why he left, it would be great to bump into him again.

Re: Feb CTC - The Tribesports Twenty
What a day to tip the balance and get to 75kg .
First attempt got me a "lightweight" 4967. Can't believe I didn't make 5,000
But then again my official 5K time is 20:37.2 so I'd better get back and have a go at that soon. It's even worse on the CS logbook. I must have missed a ranked row somehow.
The joys of being a beginner!

I too went for an early score on the board.
The first split was too slow. I guess this means I will have to do it again.

Re: Feb CTC - The Tribesports Twenty
Today was supposed to be a hard distance day for me, so the CTC seemed like a good idea.

Pretty close to a max effort. This is a perfect fit for my weekly middle distance row, I will probably revisit it again, but I might not get much improvement.

Nice session Greg. Seems broadly in line with your 6k SB. I'm hoping to get close to 5500m, but I may wait until after BRIC.gregsmith01748 wrote:Today was supposed to be a hard distance day for me, so the CTC seemed like a good idea.

First stab at this at low rate. My kind of session.
5,571m...20min...1:47.7...r23
Nearly r22 but needed to speed up at the end to get over 5500m.

Re: Feb CTC - The Tribesports Twenty
Glad this is more up your street Jason, I look forward to seeing how much you can improve over the month.
First go at this for me. Wasn't really sure how to pace this as my training lately has been longer low rate or faster intervals. Planned to maintain just under 1:45 pace for 15 min and then see how I felt for last 5 min. Felt pretty good with 5 min to go and kept finding another gear as I accelerated.

Re: Feb CTC - The Tribesports Twenty
I decided to put in the distance I covered (4993m) in the first twenty minutes of my cool down row after my 1k TT, just to help fill out a boat. I probably won't have a serious attempt at this until after BRIC.

Re: Feb CTC - The Tribesports Twenty
Managed to do 4906m. Not really too bothered about how I do but it's hard getting back into it after so long away. Probably could have managed 5300+ back in the day but it's good to set some benchmarks to chart your progress

My thanks to Michelle for the opportunity to enjoy a little time in a floating boat FS1. And some great efforts by our hwts mean it's even in a medal spot for now.

Paul - it's nice to be sharing a boat with someone who was actually just doing a cool down. We are not worthy! Yeah, good luck at BRIC, Paul, even with those stupid - or at least unrealistic - rules they try to put into practice
Fantastic effort, Andy Well, can´t be that surprised, you seem to be able to find some extra gears when it gets the most challenging

Upped my effort to 5039m, and also moved up a boat for the time being. Might have a last go at the end of the month and see if my fitness is improving

Re: Feb CTC - The Tribesports Twenty
Finally made it above 5k with a 5070. Pales into insignificance compared to our top guys but a landmark for me. 9 metres (i.e. one damned stroke) short of making it into FS3! Doh

Attempt # 1. I always find timed rows psychologically tough. Going faster doesn't get you to the finish line any quicker.

Re: Feb CTC - The Tribesports Twenty
It's surprising how motivating it can be to have someone log a score 2 meters better than you (cough, Dan, cough). So, I changed my plan for my hard distance day to be another shot at the CTC.
Last time: 5524m (1:48.6)
This time: 5553m (1:48.0)
- more details on the Pete Plan Thread
As they say on the newscast. Back to you, Dan!
