Rowing annoyances
I hate it when my laces tickle my shins when rowing. It has been enough to handle down at times. Does anyone else have something that particularly annoys them when erging?

The occasional attack of athletes foot. The itching drives me insane. Thankfully it doesn't happen that often

Re: Rowing annoyances
When the music from my iPod player is either annoyingly loud or so low that I can hardly make out what song is playing. The sound check function that should equalize volume across songs, doesn't seem to work.

When the wind blows the door closed when I'm in the middle of a time trial/challenge. I use a weight to wedge the door open, but sometimes a gust of wind will be strong enough to dislodge it.

Re: Rowing annoyances
Sweat in my eyes, rowers next to me with poor technique, forgetting to put my HR monitor on, batteries failing on earpieces and/or iPod, dance music on the gym system, other gym users generally, ... you get the picture.
I find all these things have an exponential irritation factor the more tired I am on the rower.

Re: Rowing annoyances
Webberg beat me to the "other rowers with poor technique" annoyance. It's bad enough when they do the wrist breaking thing, but when it's accompanied by chain slap...
It's not how far you go... It's how go you far.

When I forget to turn on the iPod, or it falls off the breastband, or if the trousers twinges your Butt while rowing.

Bumping just to add:
That moment just after finishing a time trial or interval session, when I should feel pleased it's over, but instead have to painfully bend forward to undo the straps.

Re: Rowing annoyances
Starting to row during daylight, forgetting to turn on the light and then being unable to read the PM after 60 min when it gets dark outside and therefor not knowing when the HM is over.

Re: Rowing annoyances
Planning to press the button on the PM to change the display but then accidentally due to autopilot pressing the menu button and killing a good session...
Having a really great PB going on when the rowing machine start sliding backwards with each stroke ending up in the wall....
Or in the same situation being interrupted by wife or kids with "important issues". I really need to make that sign "keep out! TT ongoing"
Planning a RowPro session with friends and ending up having network issues or a PC that cannot detect the PM....
Sweat burning in the eyes...
Wasps flying around while doing a TT...
Battery dying on the wireless headset in the middle of a session.....
PM loosing the connection to the neighbouring Erg while that one already is on its way with a head start ; hence rowing 10k against a tandem (4x2500m) without knowing how far they are still ahead (that one still hurts)...
Oh I love getting all of this off my chest! Thanks for revisiting this for me unknown thread!!

Re: Rowing annoyances
There are a couple of "sweat in the eyes" coments below. Time to break out the FS Headbands again Plummy? Mine made a massive difference to my enjoyment.
My first annoyance is the wi-fi deciding that the garage is just too far for a signal to reach, despite it being perfect the day before
Second one is pretty much the entire user interface of RowPro - the only thing that it is better than is the diabolically buggy Concept2 Utility.
And my current annoyance is that I have mistakenly installed a Beta version of the PM5 firmware and can't get rid of it.

57 years old, 5"10', clinging on to 75kg and frustratingly but understandably inconsistent

Re: Rowing annoyances
Starting a time trial and the sun is perfectly positioned to hit my eyes at some part of the stroke. So distracting.
But in the grand scheme, we all know these aren't really problems... right

Re: Rowing annoyances
Right.
However ...
I get annoyed with myself; if I was more disciplined and motivated with a training plan, I could probably improve on my times etc.
The annoyance doesn't last very long though because normally, ( bugged with a cold and cough at the moment ) rowing makes me happy and fills me with a sense of achievement. It provides me with an inner buzz.
To echo Barbara, in the grand scheme, I am so grateful that this is possible ...

Re: Rowing annoyances
Setting off for a long TT like 60 minutes or HM in the late afternoon and forgetting to switch on the light, so I have to row the last 10 minutes in the dark, unable to read the PM4.
Athletes row, others just play games
