Thank you Fred for your analysis.

Happy jubilee Ms. Jill! I wonder if Richard had any idea what he was instigating. He unleashed a phenom. Congrats!

Thank you Barbara. :) In the scheme of things though, you are the truly remarkable one.xx :)

Richard laughed when he read your remarks, especially as he has to frequently put up with my, " I am not doing the CTC/ I am doing the CTC/I don't know if I want to do the CTC " ditherings and twitterings.

Hi Fred and Rodger. Rowing the December 2016 CTC brought my total to 25. Is it too late to ask for my first Jubilee mention?
Jill wrote:

No, you can ask for anything you like.
But you just made that first mention yourself.
On the bright side, it's only a year for you now to get into the club 50.

North country idiom:

' Well :!: I'll go to the foot of our stairs :!: '

Young Mr Rodger, if I can ask for anything I like ... then it's that you show a little more respect towards your elders. [-X

PS - Thank you and Fred for all your sterling efforts in maintaining this thread. =D> :)

Sorry for the slight delay, but yesterday we had a party here in the street, so I didn't have time to update the board.
Five new entries again this week and thanks to two entries on the last day we had the same number of participants as last month.
Overall I think FS did pretty good this challenge. I saw several high scores for FS'ers (including myself).
Barbara and Morten are still inseperable on number 1. Offcourse Liefcat dropped a few spots, but he's still in the top 10 thanks to his wonderful achievement.
As predicted Max entered the top 10, taking over my place. Well deserved. Guy is the strongest climber in the top 20, no doubt he will keep on climbing.

Good luck everyone with July's challenge.

Regards,

Fred

Thank you Fred. A party in the street sounds like a good reason to defer analyses \:D/  :-({|= \:D/

Happy July all.

Despite a poor wifi connection here in the Provence in France I managed to update the table. Two new entries this month. Claudius entered the top 5, Guy is slowly crawling towards the top10, with the february score missing. With five months to go he might just manage that. Liefcat upholds his eighth position. Great.

When I took it upon me to keep the scores here Roger warned me that the current method of scoring might not be appropriate anymore in this year because of the risk of more then one hundred participating boats. Up to now there was no problem but in august, with the staggering amount of 8 completely filled boats the problem arises.
There are three boats beneath position 100 in the chart. Which in the current scoring method would lead to a score under 100. And 100 is also the amount of points you get for participating and not being in a boat.

What to do.
What I've done now is give everyone 100 points who is in a boat that would lead to a score less then 100. Which is one option.
Another option would be to count down from 301 in stead of 201. This would lead to an increasing gap between those being in a boat and those not.
Another option could be to give for instance only 50 points for participating. Also increasing the gap mentioned above.

I'm open to suggestions.

Given this, now to this month's results.
40 participants. The biggest number this year. And six new entry's, great. I hope you keep on going.
Sorry to see Barbara drop to #2, now Morten is in the lead on his own.
Dave dropped two places to number five. Come on, Dave, don't let those youngsters get to you.
Guy climbed three places from 14 to 11. Almost a top 10 position, but at the expense of who?

Thanks, Fred. About the issue of the 100+ boats, something can be said for (and against) all options you mentioned. I (still) don't have a better idea right now.

In August four names found a boat that we had not seen before. A warm welcome to Amber Pierce, Jess Milborne, Ange LC and Jan Borkenstein!
Another fact of note: Ian Bee rowed his 25th CTC! =D>

Thanks for all the work on this. In terms of the options - if it isn't too much effort I would go for changing the countdown from 301 to 201. If that is a lot of work, then I would stick with your current approach and just allocate 100 points for being in any kind of boat. At the end of the day, I don't think people would really mind which way things were done.

`Anothyer option (subject to the work involved) is to enter the number of boats competing and give 1 point for each boat that you are faster than. So 120 boats floated, points awarded would be 101 for 120th to 220 for first (ie points are no. of boats plus 101- position). That way no scaling required for the one-day rows as less competing. Would then always leave the penalty of being on the shore similar although it would reward peole taking part in the more popular challenges.

Just a thought, but happy with any of the suggestions.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've got no idea yet of the best solution. Perhaps when I have some time left I'll work them all out and check the differences. For now I just keep it like this, I don't know exactly when I have the opprtunity to dig deeper in this.
I was charmed by Iain's option, but as he mentioned I think the drawback there is that you can get a lot of points in popular challenges (the easier ones?). The hard ones will have less competition. Leading to less points.
I'll have another look into it, but I don't know whether it will change before the end of this month.

You could always go the other way, keep as is, but with the points for having a score but not being in a boat reduced to 1 less than the last boat would have scored (ie 201-120-1 = 80 in above example). Prioritises doing the less popular challenges, but these may also be those where those regularly not scoring have the least likelihood of getting into a boat.

Well a short recap after entering the september scores.
Claudius entered the top 3, Guy entered the top 10. Will they be able to climb even higher? Barbara has competion for the first boat now from Ange, who climbed 15 places thanks to her great score.
There are no new entries this month and, apart from the Valentine's challenge we have the lowest number of participants. Hopefully this month, in honour of Gillian, we can beat that.

No FS boat with a higher ranking than 85 this month so we have no problems this time.
I will adjust the scores of last month later on.

Good luck with the Alzheimers Awareness.

I've updated the August results. Just counted on, so a number of people now have less points, the boats that have a lower ranking then 101. Since everyone was in a boat the problem of what to do with them didn't arise.

Two new entries in October. Welcome...
By missing this month's challenge Danfennell went from the 7th position to the 12th. That's all for the top 10. With two more months to go I think it's safe to say that Morten will stay no 1 this year.

Though the challenge is over Gillian won't be out of our heads I think. Let's hope a remedy will be found for this terrible disease.

I am not to confident that I can hold my position Fred, short sprint tends to end up in lower back injuries. I have to be carefull this month, I do not take any chances and end up with a injury in the final weeks before BRIC.

100 points is quite a margin but we’ll see what happens. Good to be careful. Good luck.

Only 30 participants for the Free Spirits this month. Not very popular this sprinting.
My first time in the first boat. Just have to mention this, glad I made it... :D
Guy climbs to the sixth position, coming from the ninth. I'm afraid the year is too short for him to get any higher, next year will be different I think.
The same goes for Ange. She's doing great the last four months. Keep it up this way and you'll be competing for the #1 position next year.
Good luck everyone with the 30 minute challenge this month.

Congratulations to Morten for retaining his top spot, and also to Claudius for pipping Barbara to second place at the last. Well done to all the competitors throughout the year ^O^

We had a total of 32 entrants this month. Welcome to Marta S in her first ctc =D>

Thanks for the update!

Very happy to see that I made the top 5; i.e. boat I in total :-)
A nice international one Image Image Image Image Image

Funny as well to see that I reached exactly 2018 points in 2018 :-) :-) :-)
