You can enter a time for the CTC at any stage during the month. Your team affiliation should still be there or you can use a new username if you've forgotten your password.

Re: Free Spirits CTC Participation and Leaderboard
Well, that was 2014.
First let’s round off this month’s challenge: 39 Free Spirits took part, one lady short of an eighth boat. We saw five new entries in this last month of the year, two of which are debuts (unless different names were used in the past): Emma Chetwynd-Jarvis and hornetfan. Welcome!
Three were members returning to the CTC board: Gerard Robinson (first since 2011!), Olaf E. and Dan Apps. Nice!
The leaderboard took its final shape: Liefcat (Erik) is the winner (again). Consistently strong through the whole year, missed boat 1 only once.
Ranked 2 through 9 are:
thornmaster (thanks for putting up a compelling fight for first spot!), Barbara H (best female), John Steventon (best lwt), SanderJRoosendaal, Paul Victory, Laura Fairbairn, Peter Weiß, alan wisniewski and haaico.
The Dry Paddle Award 2014 goes to Roger Burrell and Carol Lamb who both landed ashore three times. Well done nonetheless, or even more so! =D>
We had a total of 92 Free Spirits making an effort in the CTC this year.
Nine FS did all 13 of them: Liefcat, thornmaster, Barbara H, SanderJRoosendaal, Paul Victory, Peter Weiß, alan wisniewski, RGelissen and Andrew Stanway. =D>
As always, the full list is here:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc ... MTWc#gid=4
The participation comparison over the years hasn’t changed much since I last posted it, but for the sake of completeness:
No big changes in the Club 50 either:
Finally, these Free Spirits went off the radar in 2014 after at least three consecutive years of service, in the order of their total number of CTC’s for FS :
Paul Gould, David Taylor, Alan Strang, Boris Bossi, SimonJ., Petr Oliva, RachelR, Trish Wright. Christine Wojcik, MrsJ, Claire Haynes, Laurence Casey, Lee_Winslow, John Reeves, Jonathan Ashmore, Morten Haugseng, San-J and Radek Zaruba.
Hope to see you all back in 2015!

Re: Free Spirits CTC Participation and Leaderboard
Roger, thank you for all the work you have put into setting up the spreadsheet and analysing the results. It certainly helped to motivate me to make sure I was in a floating boat each month.
My next challenge is to figure how I'm going to break into the top five!

Well done to all. I certainly intend to do all CTCs of 2015. I wouldn't mind if a few of them were straight distance or time trials, though.
Happy rowing in 2015 to all. May you achieve all your erg goals.

Roger - thanks for all the work you put into this throught the year. It has helped greatly with my motivation during the year and completing all CTC's has been the only one of my targets completed for 2014. I enjoyed being in the lead for a short time until injury and a couple of bouts of man flu knocked me back for the last couple of months. Hopefully I will get back into shape enough to get back int boat 1 and keep Eric on his toes again this year.

Re: Free Spirits CTC Participation and Leaderboard
A very good number of 46 Free Spirits took part in January. It’s our highest participation since January of last year, when 53 of us did the 5k. Now 5k, that's a popular challenge and ranking distance. But to get a good turnout on an interval challenge like this month, that's very encouraging. I think that with a straight 20 minutes in February, we should be able to fill 10 boats. Please don’t let January's higher participation be just down to new year resolutions. [-o<
I counted a surprising number of five full debuts: Michelle Housenga, Jill Underwood, Richard Underwood, Steve Selwood and Steve Ramsay. Great, and welcome!
There was also the welcome return of Felton Humble (first CTC since September 2008) and Jason Lewis (first since January 2009)! As always, please correct me if I’m wrong (e.g. if you have used a different name in earlier CTCs.)
I have started the new leaderboard: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc ... MTWc#gid=6
Hopefully it will provide some motivation again to those who can use it in 2015!
In the last couple of months the total number of boats on the CTC (all teams) has been increasing. February could easily see that number exceed 100, which would necessitate a rethink of our leaderboard scoring method. I say we tackle that when the need arrives. Still, suggestions are welcome.
Finally, if there is a one-day challenge on 14 February, as there has been since 2008 (except in 2012), I'm thinking of excluding that from the leaderboard scores. Last year we used half scores (50 points for participation plus a maximum of 50 for boat ranking), but there is an element of unfairness in using scores from a challenge with a one day restriction. What do you think?

My debut too Rodger so an even more surprising 6
57 years old, 5"10', clinging on to 75kg and frustratingly but understandably inconsistent

I haven't read anything about it, not on the iss website and not on Facebook. Last year it was announced late January. That makes me suspect there won't be one this year.

Re: Free Spirits CTC Participation and Leaderboard
I thought there was a basic C2 challenge to row 14k on Feb 14th. There is always a 1 day Carol McNally memorial CTC row around then (I know as it was the only one I missed last year)
60 yrs old, 82kg, 5' 10"
43Mm metres rowed. Re-setting the bar much lower now. Getting too old and brittle for this malarky

Re: Free Spirits CTC Participation and Leaderboard
The basic C2 challenge is to row at least 14k between 9 February and 14 February. As far as I know, this challenge is still in place this year. The Carol McNally challenge is to row exactly 1402m on 14th February. I don't know the status of this challenge, but I guess we'll find out if we log onto the CTC site on 14th February.plummy wrote:I thought there was a basic C2 challenge to row 14k on Feb 14th. There's nothing about it on the CTC thread on the UK forum. I've posted a question on the thread and I'll let you know the response.sander wrote:Any news on whether there will be a special CTC on Valentine's day?

There's a FB group for it now, put up by Paul Buchanan. "The 2014 Carole McNally Memorial." I'm guessing he sent notifications to anybody in the CTC or C2 Logbook groups.

Re: Free Spirits CTC Participation and Leaderboard
It was me who prompted the Facebook exchange by posting on the ISS forum. I've sent a PM to Dougie Lawson who organises the CTC and I presume he will set up up for Saturday,
Rodger, having put so much effort into making sure it happens, I think it should count towards the year long totals on the same basis as before.
