I just finished my 3,861. It was a celebration (somber in some ways). Thinking of both Gaye and Dave today.

Just completed my 3861 as the sun sets here in beautiful New Zealand, i did not know Gaye but i now know the immense loss Dave is feeling. Years of layered memories and intimacies that no one else can breach. RIP Gaye.

For me people like Gaye are what being part of team should be about and taking part in this modest recognition is acknowledging those qualities in both her and our club.

I am extremely heartened that so many people are showing so much respect for Gaye. She loved to row and when Redshell asked she quickly joined Free Spirits Rowing and signed me up for good measure. She completed an impressive 18.8 million meters in a short time. Believe me when I say our household schedule revolved around time to row. Our best month was 27/30 days of a half marathon a day.
I am still finding scraps of paper, with her distance and time for the daily row, around the house. We wound up with two rowers side-by-side and rowed to movies or rugby games (my preference).
It has taken me some time to go down and sit on the Metal Mistress alone but now I think of her efforts and it inspires me to row when I can.
I am back on the rower and working up to 3861m per day. I will post in a couple of weeks.

Injuries and illness have kept me away from the rower for almost fifteen months and I've been in a bubble. I started rowing again 10th September. Having seen this row for Gaye I felt I had to join in.
Having 'recruited' Gaye we corresponded regularly in the early days....emails even to get each other on the CTC board! So very sad that Gaye's life has been taken so early. I've just completed my 3861m pleased and sad.

Disappointed I couldn't beat my previous time but the physio pulled me apart yesterday and I was just too tight to get the job done and had to back off for 500m or so. As I wanted some solidarity with the team I've entered my slower time for today on the CTC (slower by 6 seconds) and will re-instate the quicker one from a couple of weeks ago at the end of the month if it looks like it might help the team.

My thoughts are with you Dave on what must be an emotional day. You have our complete and utter support.

I know I was thinking of Gaye when I did today's row and there was no way I was going to h/d. Her dedication was an inspiration to us all and I can't think of a better way of acknowledging this than what we are all doing today.
