Re: March CTC 920m
OK Wolfie for what its worth here is my attempt at the ctc. Not done any timetrials for about a year & a half & third day of consecutive rowing ( unheard of for me) so was a bit apprehensive ( excuses over time to row ). Decided to be conservative in first 500 & proved a good move.

Very strong row Spider which takes you right into FS1, well done! =D>
I justed entered a humble 3:20.6 which was taken out of the final rep of a 5x1500 session, but will have a proper go as soon as my cold clears up.

A very badly paced 2nd attempt but still 12 secs better than my previous row and moved me up to FS VII

Re: March CTC 920m
Finally got round to doing this one. I thought I would be lucky to go under 1:50 pace given the general lack of erging recently and total lack of anything resembling sprint work.
920, 3:16.8 @ 1:46.9, 32spm
splits:

800, 0:41.6 @ 1:44.0, 35spm
920, 0:24.8 @ 1:43.3, 34spm
The lack of confidence showed in the first half, so I will give it another shot and try to commit a bit sooner - should be another couple of seconds in the tank somewhere.

Looks like a very painful attempt Richard, but you finished and that's what counts, well done!
Quite the opposite approach by Stan there, I aggree that there's much more to be found in your next go!

Straight back on with a 500m PB - Still rubbish pacing but I'm learning my limits. Planning another 920m on Wednesday but that will be it for the sprinting, back to the fat burning stuff before my heart explodesShang-Chi wrote: A genuine "Fly and Die" row there Richard. Richard
Try starting with a 1:50 for the first 230m then 1:49/230, 1:48/230 and then empty the tanks for the last 230m. It's a more scientific way of knackering yourself!

Hi Richard, I think Bill means copy me. That way instead of getting sympathy for a fly and die, you get lambasted by Peter for not trying hard enough early on

Re: March CTC 920m
Thanks for the advice Bill. I'll try that tomorrow.
I did intend to do more even splits but I've only been rowing regularly for 3months so I'm still trying to find the right pace, especially for a sprint and as you can see I haven't found it yet
I'll let you know if how knackering the scientifc approach is - can't be any worse than the way I did it - can it
Stan, I think I'd rather copy your way than repeat my fly and die technique. I'd rather get stick for not trying hard enough than suffer that kind of agony again

Re: March CTC 920m
Nice effort Stan. =D>
A semi-proper attempt saw me set a 3:24.7. I say semi-proper, because I started at 1:55 pace and finished at 1:47. It's just been so long since I've done anything fast, I thought being conservative was the best plan. I'll maybe have another go in the next couple of days just to see what I have in the tank.
Eight boats floated now and 43 entries. A couple of male HWTs should see a 9th boat floated, and then we can work on the 10th. If you haven't submitted a time yet, please consider doing so. And remember, it doesn't matter how slow or how fast you do it - it's more about the taking part.

Re: March CTC 920m
I wish I'd had a look at this before my 4th (and probably final) attempt at the CTC today. Unlike Stan, I started off too fast and had a positive split throughout apart from the final 120m. My initial objective was to see how long I could hold 1:45 pace, but that soon disappeared. Between 300m and 600m, it was a matter of convincing myself that I didn't need to H/D and that I could still beat my previous time of 3:20.0. I really slowed down between 600m and 800m, but had a little bit left to be able to sprint over the last 60m or so.Stan wrote:Finally got round to doing this one. 800, 0:41.6 @ 1:44.0, 35spm
920, 0:24.8 @ 1:43.3, 34spm
The lack of confidence showed in the first half, so I will give it another shot and try to commit a bit sooner - should be another couple of seconds in the tank somewhere.
Result was as follows:
920, 3:17.4 @ 1:47.2, 33spm
splits:
200, 0:41.8 @ 1:44.5, 33spm
400, 0:42.6 @ 1:46.5, 32spm
600, 0:43.6 @ 1:49.0, 33spm
800, 0:44.4 @ 1:51.0, 32spm
920, 0:25.1 @ 1:44.5, 36spm
If I'd realised I was so close to Stan's time I probably still wouldn't have made it.

Re: March CTC 920m
After HD x2 earlier in the week I finally managed to get it right at the 3rd attempt.
920m, 3:22.5 @ 1:50.1
Splits
230 | 00:51.6 | 01:52.1 | 29 spm | 122 bpm |

920 | 00:49.8 | 01:48.2 | 30 spm | 164 bpm |
Tired a bit in the third quarter but held on and was pleased to finish strongly and beat my previous best. I just missed the sub 1:50 I was going for, but much better splits
That it - no more to come for 920m, but at least I should be able to smash my 1k PB now

Totally messed up the splits today which should have been 115m, but some how I wrote 150 instead Had only 30 min to do the challenge today because of the national holidays, so that could be the reason why. Otherwise I did GREAT!
