Well had another crack and sorted my pacing out and clocked in at 2:58.6

Rather odd though although the time is quicker my HR was slightly less?

That's it though the tanks where well and truly emptied!!!!

Nice one, jainser, well done. =D>

I think it's fair to say this has been a slow start from the team - two boats floated and fifteen entries to date. I know we can do better than that, but plenty of time left in the month.

Great going so far guys =D> =D>

Rachel - I hope you weren't planning on just having the one go at this challenge? Have a look at the leaderboard - you've just GOT to have another go, right??

I will only have another go at this as part of a 1K SB attempt maybe later in the month

For now
RESULT: 2m 59.8s, Rate 36, 1m 37.7s pace
115m splits:
22.4s
22.1s
22.1s
22.5s
22.4s
22.8s
22.9s
22.6s

I wish I had set the machine for 1K as would have a new SB by now. Always next time!

No, because then you would have waited a little longer with your finishing sprint, and you time for the 920m would have been less good. I thought I should have done the same. After the row I too "thought" that I was able to do "just" 8 or 9 more strokes in the same speed to make it to the 1K. I don't think so, as I was gasping for air and my power went out on the last 20 meters.

Exactly the same here set it for 920 and rowed for a 920.
All you can do is take hope from the result that you 1k time will be good!

Normally I would agree with you guys, however, my SB is only 3m 19.9s (PB 3m 5.2s ) and I was rowing equivalent to 3m 15.xs pace. I would not have lost 4 secs in the last 80 metres, and I was not flat out, hence my strong finish. I think I can beat 2m 59.8s, but as the deed is done I may only aim for 1K next time and take a split time at 920m.

cheers

I think we are talking pass each other. Wouldn't you agree in that, IF you are rowing all out, and if you normally start your sprint X numbers of meters before finish, you wouldn't be able to finish the rest of the extra distance (80meters) in same or better style than on the original sprint.
You are talking about going at a equivalent pace, but even so, I think you would loose power if you started your sprint, lets say, 250m before finish, and then take another 80m, even if you had calculated those extra meters. You wouldn't be able to hold up the same power, which means you have to start later on the sprint and lose time on the challenge of 920 meters. PS: Doing a challenge with out some kind of spectacular finish, isn't really taking on a challenge

Hi
I think you missed a critical point in my reply:
Shang-Chi wrote: I was not flat out, hence my strong finish
Although I set the machine for 920m, I am more interested in what I can do for 1K. The fact that I have contributed to the FS boats on this occasion is what is important to me, not how fast I can ultimately go for 920m. The challenge for me is working towards the level of fitness I used to enjoy. I am no where near it at present; maybe as much as a year away. So the FS monthly CTC challenges are just a step.

OK, we're pretty much half way through the month and we have five boats floated. Not bad, but hopefully there's still lots of you intending to give this a go who are waiting until nearer the end of the month. Let's target ten boats floated by the 31st.

Unplanned badly paced attempt today, and got 3:00.2 (full details on my training thread).

Will obviously have to have another go sometime, to see if I can find at least that 0.2!

Oh, and I _did_ set for 1000m, with 230m splits to capture the 920m time, and spent the whole way regretting it and wishing I'd put 920m straight.

Good results guys =D> =D>
And Mike you're going to have to have another go to get under 3 minutes!

If you're like me and like to know what's coming up next - the April challenge will be 639m (apparently this is the combined age of the members of the "Gee Crew"), unrestricted.

My lovely wife Jennifer did the challenge today (in 4:04.0) and we now have 6 boats floating. I also had my 2nd attempt and improved by just over 5 seconds to 3:21.2. Still in the same boat, but I've moved up from 3rd seat to 2nd. Need to find another 2 seconds to join Jennifer in FSIV.

I've had a "hell week" and not rowed since last Friday. I just aimed for sub 1:40 split and got 3:02.7.

Well done Thomas. Made it with over a second to spare!

Pushed me down a boat too. Mutter, mutter.

Well done Thomas. =D> =D> =D> Hell Week doesn't sound good :!: I hope you refer to a hard working week and not some gang feud :!:

Apropos why I mentioned this:
In Denmark the police task-force has done 3 raids against the gang environment the last 3-4 weeks. Many "people" has been charged for attempted murder and other economical crimes. Guns and knives has been seized. Many has been arrested. We are talking about a group called, "Loyal to Familia"(obviously inspired by Cosa Nostra, even though they are a out spring from a group located around Blågårds Plads in Copenhagen, Nørrebro), and other immigrant gangs, The Hells Angels (Danish department) and Bull Shit (also bikers)

Luckily Denmark(Copenhagen) is pretty small compare to other capitals and every body pretty much knows who they are and therefore it is fairly easy for the police to find them and hit them all simultaneously. (so they can't warn each other.)

Managed to knock 1.2 seconds off today to move back into boat V beside Jennifer. I find that doing minimal warm up (my gazillionth attempt at the blind 666m challenge) seems to work better for me that doing a "proper" warm up. I figure I have at least another couple of seconds in me before month end.
