My Wife Beryl.
I have not been around for a while as my lovely wife Beryl has been in hospital again, having made a successful recovery from her brain hemorrhage last year she had returned to doing to light rowing and was doing ok. Unfortunately 5 weeks ago Beryl suffered a bowel blockage and required an emergency operation. Ber has been diagnosed with cancer and requires six months of chemotherapy. I am afraid to say its incurable but we are told the chemo can stop it advancing. It was a real shock but being the girl she is, Beryl is very positive about her treatment and outcome and has given me a couple of verbal kickings to get my eyes back in the boat!! Ber is recovering well from her op and getting her self ready for her chemo sessions which start next week..I have to say she is a class act and I am very proud of her courage.

Really sad to hear about Beryl. I just mentioned it to my wife as she is a chemo nurse.

Best wishes to you and Beryl during the next few months and beyond. I suspect there'll be tough times and a few tears ahead but stay strong mentally and rest assured the team are all behind you.

Re: My Wife Beryl.
I am so sorry to hear this. The chemo is very tiring but they have medicines that can counteract things like the nausea etc. so be sure and mention any problems and they can be helped, usually.
I shall be thinking of you both; this is such a difficult thing to go through.
The best advice we ever had from anyone came from the consultant who broke the news to us. She said "Don't look back to the way you were. Don't borrow trouble and worry about what's to come. There is today, and you do your best to enjoy it. If it's a good day, make memories to relive when things aren't so good. If it's a bad day, just go with it and find little things to make it easier". This was so helpful, and yet it sounds so simple.
The other thing we did that took a bit of teeth gritting was we allowed ourselves one hearty cry a day each. After that, crying was done for the day thankyou. And if you didn't cry yesterday that doesn't mean you're entitled to two cries today!
Hang in there!!

I am so sorry to hear this, Duckrunner.
This is a very special time. Every day is hard - I know that - and some days are harder than others, but it is also a special time. No matter what, there will always something, every single day, to be thankful for... some memory that you will cherish in the years to come. Take a moment, breath deeply, and treasure what you have.
I know this sounds trite, and I hope you won't take it that way.
My thoughts are with you and your wife.

Adversity has ever been considered the state in which a man most easily becomes acquainted with himself.
My thoughts are with you both and may you both be strong and close in the months to come.
The courage to even post the news makes me feel very shallow.
Live strong.

Re: My Wife Beryl.
Chris,
I wondered what was up a few weeks ago when I saw a vague post on FB, but missed the post here. Very sorry to hear you got such bad news, but glad Beryl has approached it with a positive attitude. Wendy's advice was great and hope that you and Beryl are blessed with some good days in the upcoming months.
