Nonathlon 2007

Post by Gregor Andrews »

Firstly in case you don't know what Nonathlon is about, the website is here.
The Nonathlon lets you compete on equal terms with other Concept2 rowers of all ages. You compete against everyone, but using the previous years rankings you are only scored against the best times/distances for your own age, weight, and sex. This gives everyone a more equal chance of winning.
How many of us as logging our times there?

I'm there as Gregor Andrews (just to make it easy I use the same name there, here and on the concept 2 website)

My current scores are:
Total - 6446
0.5k - 806
1k - 834
2k - 785
5k - 828
6k - 747
10k - 788
Half Marathon - 0
Marathon - 0
30mins - 841
60mins - 817
Bonus - 0

From that it looks like I need to work on my 2k, 6k and 10k times and log a time for the half marathon (for the 1st time this season). I think they will be my priorities next week to see if I can move up from my current position of 56th.

Looks like the 30mins is my best race. Probably because I have attempted it so often.

What about everyone else?

Just logged a new 2000m PB of 7:16.7 so that's the 2k up from 785 to 804. :D

How funny. I was going to do a long piece but thought, hey, why not do a 2000m piece for nonathlon! (Needed to be short - baby is sleeping and Tamsin out strawberry picking with the kids).

Got within 0.6 seconds of my PB (set in 2001) (not counting my "when I was rowing and training six days a week"water rowing pb of 6:38 ) and posted 7:14.7. This gives me 812 on nonathlon for the 2k. 3 seconds outside the U12 world record!!! Sooooo close. I was amazed - set off using a rowpro pace boat at 1:50 thinking under 7:30 would be good.

I know this is like a red flag to the bull and expect you to be under 7:10 tomorrow ;-) Well done on yours though.

Need to do a 2k

Post by ReducingFB »

Yep ! I haven't done a 2k for ages. Need to give it a whirl, because my recently achieved PB's are getting in the top 10% of the normal distribution for Old Farts of 50-59, except my 2k from last year would put me in at about 16-18%.

But must lose some weight as well - need to balance weight loss with those highly competitive urges.

I'm on there and I know Stan is as well - cos I've just seen him above me

That means I need to get a 6km and a marathon time in!

Actually Paul I am just behind you (as usual  ) on 6550. Like you I need to log a marathon and 6k. The marathon will have to wait until October but I will try a 6k this month sometime. Really need to log more metres first though.

I think next week I'll have to do a half marathon. Then if you do the 6km we will be comparing the same distances/times and then battle can commence.

I am going to do a 6k tonight (possibly).

BUt I was thinking that I have done too much "pb" stuff and not enough "fat burn" as I am getting carried away...

I also want to recover a bit before trying the CTC challenge again, so think I will do 10km and 60 mins next week at 130/22 and have a pop at the 30 minutes at the end of the week.

I just updated my 30 mins which squeezed me ahead.

Got to concentrate on the distance stuff now as you say.

Going to get left behind over the next couple of weeks.

Nonathlon

Post by webberg »

I'm in there currently on 6280.

This excludes a 500 mtr time because I really, really detest that distance. Also excludes a FM time because .... I'm scared of it?

Come October I'll post a time.

I know that I can improve the 6k time and that I will squeeze the 30 mins later in the month but for now relatively happy.

Has anybody asked the guy who runs the websire whether a team affiliation (and league) is possible? I think he is based in the US and is with one of the top 20 teams. I'll check it out and drop him an e-mail.

I have been using John Rupp's (I think) PATT system for close to 2 years, and have built a personal spreadsheet on it . It's the same idea as Nonathlon. I found it a good motivation tool . It showed me how weak my long stuff was compared to my short rows, which was more incentive to do more long rows, which has helped me overall.

In the Nonathlon I'm currently in position 90 . I need to put in another 3 times, and put in a decent 500m (for me) for this year, to get a better score

And shouldn't the site renamed from Nonathlon to Pentium ?
Sorry I couldn't resist

Here are my current scores

Total - 5407

.5 - 848
1k - 937
2k - 883
5k - 909
6k - 0
10k - 912
HM - 0
M - 0
30 - 918
60 - 0

NONATHLON TEAM ROW

Post by webberg »

See below,

This is a response from the guy who runs the Nonathlon site.

It hadn't occurred to me at all before. Certainly there's no theoretical problem with it, so I think this needs to go to Cran the tech wizard/monkey :) Fair warning - even if it's possible it might have to wait until after the summer's rowing!

Cran - let me know if it's possible, and if we'd need to do some of that design stuff.

Cheers, Paul

My new half-marathon time of 1:27:25.9 gives me 835 points (making it my second best distance  ).

35th now, just ahead of some chap called Derrylad. ;)

I couldn't find Thomas's score as my page down button isn't working too well. ;) (more motivation!!)

Good stuff Gregor

Post by ReducingFB »

Interesting, looking at your signature - your times are similar to mine throughout the range. Must get on with doing the PB's for this season to climb the Nonathlon board. But I'm afraid my 22 year advantage is going to see me race past you with the same times. Feel like I've arrived - albeit twenty years late !! :D

I don't think I've got much chance of getting close to your nonathlon scores - your times are pretty good even without adjusting them for age.

New PB for the 10,000 puts my points up from 788 to 831.

Think I need to attempt the 2k again - according to nonathlon it is my worst distance. Funnily enough, according to the online rankings it is my best! :?

Well done again. I think the on-line rankings are skewed because only the better rowers row the longer distances. Therefore it is harder to do well at the longer distances.

Which reminds me, my time for 10km needs to go in to nonathlon too.

Well done on the 10k Thomas. Just posted a nonathlon 6k in a poor time of 24:04.2 - should have been sub 24 but decided to choke 1.2k from the end. Anyway its put me 12 points ahead of you for the time being :D
