meter board update

Post by jlemon »

I added a rolling weekly movement indicator (last 7 days). Hopefully it doesn't make the board look too busy or confusing.

New members are shown that way until they've been around for a week.

I have a temporary advantage of 2 days worth of rowing since I have my meter data for then. I doubt I really shot up +10 spots.

PM/post suggestions. Thanks to Thomas for adding a link off the front page!

It is very impressive. And so fast (to develop and in response time).

I imagine I am the only one sad enought to watch the clock for the updates when I know I am about to surge up the table. I like the weekly movement too.

You're not the only one - I find myself reloading the rankings too often when I should be busy doing something else - like rowing.

I love the table - very well done.

I now find myself logging my metres before I have a shower just in case it is close to the next hourly update. :)

Are you still working on the rolling weekly change indicator? It currently shows many folk going up the charts but noone going down.

Fantastic software!

Post by PSims »

I think it's brilliant.

1 addition, if you have time....

 Can you do a calculation of the difference in metres between someone and the person above them - so they know what they are chasing?

Also, any chance of taking Baldwin's metres and subtracting 100km to make me feel better?!!!

yeah, brilliant. You find yourslef checking who is above you and wanting to catch up and pass. THese things, and the Free Spirits certainly make you want to row - the motivation is there. A PB today over 30 minutes to try and 'do my bit' for the CTC challenges.

Today is an 'I love rowing day'...
I love rowing, I hate rowing, I love rowing, I hate rowing...

Post by plummy »

I can see the thread for the metre board - but can't see aboard anywhere - am I misreading something here?

Go to the home page and follow the link (or just click this one). There is also a link to the Free Spirits chat room (beta because still in its own look and feel and needs another registration, and takes organisation to meet people in there...)

Cheers

Gregor: I intentionally am not showing the "down" indicator for rolling weekly changes, I figure this is also a motivational tool and it would be depressing to be reminded for a week that you went down N spots. :?

Rob: Thanks! I already have a programming job, but if anyone wants to offer me consulting on the side...

PSims: I'll put that in the idea list for the next round of updates. I'm thinking of something like a javascript rollover which pops up a box showing the difference between yourself and any other rower. I'd find that useful - "7089 meters to move up one spot, 12032 meters to move up two spots, might as well row just 2000 more today... "

Yet another update.

This time, click on your name - then select the "This is me" button from the month view page. This will highlight your row on the main page, and also add a new column showing the difference between you and any other team member. (Yay, yet more motivation!)

I'm also recording the known Concept2 member numbers also; I just need to figure out what to do with them, other than display a picture.

Nice one - I'm liking the new modification.

It would be nice if there was a tick beside those who had entered the current month's CTC challenge. I can't imagine this could be done easily though?

Thanks to Jonathan who has now kindly put the meter board in to the web site format. It is a nice collaboration - I post the template and he just sticks his code in to it.

Another idea

Post by PSims »

Thanks Jonathan - looks good - and we can now navigate to other parts of the site from the Meter Board.

An idea - how about a board that shows where we are compared to the other (say top 10) teams. Would be a similar idea to the Daily Meters Board - one line per team, showing how much each team has put on every day - so we can see the gap widening and who is chasing us. It would have the number of team members on it and average per team - data sucked straight off the Team Standings page.

I guess the code is similar to what we have already, pointing at a different page?

Please, pretty please.... :)

Goodness. Give the poor guy a break. He has done magnificent things - aren't you going to let him rest on his laurels?

Mind you, I like the idea ;)

In this team - I doubt it.

It was only an idea - I know it takes a lot of effort.
Not urgent or important - just a thought.

Thomas - no doubt you would rather do it than your marking - which I suspect STILL isn't finished??

LOL. But you talk such BS! I have checked out your nonathlon placing and if you knocked off a 5K and HM you would be close to top of the league. And 7867 for 30 minutes equates to well sub-7 for 2K I reckon.

PSims: Waving a problem in front of an engineer is like waving a red flag in front of a bull.

Were you thinking of something like team rankings? Not finished with this yet - I haven't completed any movement indicators. I'm thinking of something more like "weeks/days at this spot" instead. However, I do have some pretty graphs, although those either need a bit more work or more data, I'll figure that out in the next few days.

Since you clearly are far too good at this, you can add to your to-do list the nonathlon. Of course, we'll only want to see the IDs that are Free Spirits as a separate table to the main one.

Wow Jonathan!

Post by PSims »

Oh my God - exactly like that. :o
Yes, yes, yes - bounces around the room with delight!
Just need the difference column assuming "This is Us" is Free Spirits!

Thomas: Did a pretty good Imperial Mile today (set pace boat at 1:47 and kept up) - don't know if I can manage 1:45 and sustain it for 2k? I do hate the feeling of nausea and not being able to keep my eyes open/almost blacking out. It's so much easier for me to be lazy and plug away at 20k in any old time without caring! When I do a sprint, it messes me up for the rest of my session and I feel terrible for the rest of the morning.

As Derrylad says - quality - not quantity - but then he goes and does BOTH anyway!! G1t!
