December CTC
Just posted on the C2 Forum;
David Lloyd Gidea Park choice for the December Challenge is a Downhill 5km
2km - 1.5km - 1km - 500m with 1 minute rest
No stroke rate restrictions. First rep from standing start
Record time taken for the 5km do not include the 3 minutes of rest in total time
I think I like the idea of this one

Huw, we already had this topic so I have merged them
Looks horrendous to me, but then again anything more than 50m is horrendous at the moment.

Re: December CTC
I think the C2 challenge for December is a straight 5k, so I may just do that and use it as a starting point for next month's CTC. (Assuming this bl**dy cold is better by tomorrow )

I did my 5k today, but can't enter my time as CTC is still showing last month's challenge.

Re: December CTC
Shocking news from Stavanger, Norway Both Cathrine and I did the ctc the first day of the month And then it did not function to register the times! But it is done now.
Cathrine was brave to join me in the gym having done the 4x200m the day before. The plan was to start conservatively and see how body and mind functioned. My ambition was to go sub 17.30/1.45 average, and maybe faster than 5k PB(17.23). So not in for an all out attempt.
Cathrine did 19.33.6 – 1.57.3
2000m – 7.52.5 – 1.58.1( not comfortable and nearly HD after 500m)
1500m – 5.52.8 – 1.57.6
1000m – 3.54.4 – 1.57.2
500m – 1.53.9 – very tired but good sprint last 200m
Odd did 17.21.5 – 1.44.1- spm 28
2000m - 7.04.7 – 1.46.1 – spm 27 good control
1500m – 5.13.3 – 1.44.6 – spm 27 little bit faster last 400m
1000m – 3.25.9 – 1.42.9 – spm 28 no major problems but glad it’s only 500m left
500m – 1.36.9 – spm 33 – good sprint
So both happy, and ready to do it one more time or two. But we do our training with the 70k ski-race in Italy in the end of January as our main target.
Best of luck to you all on this one
Cathrine and Odd

My lovely wife Jennifer agreed to do the December CTC challenge today, after walking the dog for an hour and a half.
She finished in 23:37.8 and we now have two boats floating!

December CTC
Odd great to see you and Catherine so early in the month! Great times too!
Paul please give my apologies to Jennifer for booting her out of Boat 2 so soon.
Well I got on the erg to see if the set up my husband and father-in-law did on an old computer would work to get me back on RowPro (my laptop died). I signed on to a "sub-maximal" 30 min with the Canadian crowd. The start happened while my computer was telling me to watch my PM...but my PM still said "Okay to warm up". Then it got complete hung up, and would not reset...so I went upstairs until it shut down. Ate some lunch, had a cup of coffee, then went back to the basement for and easy row. Why I decided to do the CTC with a full belly is beyond me, but figured I would just get a number on the board.
2k 8:22.1 (2:05.5) 26 177
1.5k 6:14.2 (2:04.7) 26 183
1k 4:09.0 (2:04.5) 27 185 - legs wanted to got faster, brain adverse due to liking lunch in the stomach, not on the floor
500m 2:00.5 29 184 did not really sprint this one, meander to the finish would sum it up
20:45.8 (2:04.5) and I think those HRs are the maxes not average
It was harder than it should have been for that pace, but at no time was I worried about not being able to finish. I actually really like this one and think it will be a good training piece. I figure if I do it later in the month it will be a good gauge on the road back to fitness.

Re: December CTC
Great start as ever. Particular mention to the fantastic response from the ladies, 7 of 18 entries to date from them! When I shake this cold I will have another go, one failure so far after 1st stroke of the 1500 on Monday and the following morning my body felt that the 7:56.9 R30 was an all out TT! No chance of catching Catherine this month, but if I have a good one I might encourage Den to go again .

Re: December CTC
I had one of 'those' days today...I wasn't quite sure where to pitch the 2k, but was happy to get it below the mile figure from Grimsby (2:06.x) without too much trouble, so signs of improvement. I wanted to do it in a decent time, just to set a level, and with an eye to one day doing a TT, and maybe even getting round to the IP...
2000 2:05.1 That's ok, HR high but not maximal...
1500 2:15.0
There was a very long HD in the middle of this one, with a cast of thousands talking to me from the serried ranks of Free Spirits. I swear I hear your voices! Plummy - anything on the board to float a boat...The 6:20 crew - HTFU... Chorus - just paddle it in, you've got to finish it... Me - come on, Bill had surgery and now he's a record holder (again), don't be a wimp. You don't have to put it on the CTC board if it's really bad...Plummy - anything to float a boat is what's asked for....Me - think of the meter board, you need the metres. Chorus - pick up the handle!!!!
1000 2:07.1 Knew that if I put the handle down that would be the end of the session, and I was not having that.
500 2:00.1
Funny, when I know there were only 50 strokes to pull, I got focussed, and counted them down. (As an aside I had to do that on a longer piece the other day - somehow counting backwards from 350 didn't have the same motivating factor and it was also very confusing when you get tired.)
Looking at the positives - I did some metres, and got hot and sweaty, I finished a 2k in the fastest time I've done since op in late August, and with slightly more reasonable pacing a better time should be possible. Perhaps I'll go again at the weekend, with the memory of today's debacle fresh in my mind.

I echo Paul's comment Jane you did very well on finishing it girl, you must have heard my loud voice as well
Had my first stab at this last night in the gym, was worried about overdoing the 2k bit so I underdid it
Managed to improve a bit after that, may have another go next week
18.23.1 – 1.50.3- 26
2000m - 7.30.7 – 1.52.7 – 25-undercooked it
1500m – 5.30.0 – 1.50.0 – 27-better
1000m – 3.37.8 – 1.48.9 – 28 - getting faster only one to go
500m – 1.44.6 – 31 – not too bad a finish did not commit enough

Re: December CTC
After yesterday's physio treatment, I may (and I stress, I may) have a go at this tonight. It will NOT be fast, more a test of the groin/adductor area at a faster SPM than I have been doing lately. If all holds together, I'll be round at Jane's this weekend having another go AFTER she has had a second attempt without the long HD in the middle.
I will have a big stick ready to beat her with if she slacks off
Well done to all that have attempted this so far..

CTC attempt today. This hurt more than i wanted it to.
5k...16:45.1...1:40.5...r29

I tried to follow Erik and Mat on the setting off at 1:40 and paid in the 1500m rep.
Its only 3sec faster than my PB so there is still more to come.

Re: December CTC
First attempt at anything speedy for a few weeks and I managed 19:00.1 (1:54.0 splits). The injury was "noticeable" but didn't hamper me too much (maybe mentally more than anything). I was a little surprised I negatively split it as I really thought I would be hanging on for the last 2 reps. Tough but not all out desperate and I was a bit annoyed to see "19:00.1" so may have to have another go. At least I have the markers to target next time.
My adductor is a bit sore now but not as bad as it's been - need to take this very steady. I even bailed half way through the cool down as it started to complain (I quit immediately it got sore)
