Re: December CTC
After yesterday's HM I thought I'd try something much shorter (maybe a rest would have been an even better idea!). With a target of 1:54.0 (previous effort) and an eye to displace Pete Tullett at 1:53.7...
2000 - 7:33.7 ( 1:53.4 ) - ahead of the curve - solid start
1500 - 5:35.9 ( 1:51.9 ) - already hard work and heartrate up near the max
1000 - 3:43.5 ( 1:51.7 ) - consolidate on this one, just keep the pace and no more
500 - 1:47.6 ( 1:47.6 ) - upped the rate and counted strokes - didn't dare look up until I'd got to 30
18:40.7 - 1:52.0 (although it rounded up to 1:52.1 on the table)
That's actually faster than my 5k PB so I think I'm happy with that

Re: December CTC
Nice going Plummy! Very nice result for a rest day, perhaps you ought to return to the 5k before too long not feeling so tired. You may have rejuvenated the teams interest in this one before the month's end (I reckon we can get one or two boats a place or two higher yet)

Well done Plummy, I'm sure there is more to come off your 5k/30mins with some specific workouts!
Would like another go at this but am short of speed & running out of time. Looking forward to next year now.
Some great times posted by Freespirits well done to all =D> =D>

Re: December CTC
Leifcat - good spot and you are quite correct. The 18:43 time was the dead heat time with Pete Tullett at Farnborough 2009 and has kinda stuck as the best 5k I've ever done (albeit, not actually the fastest time).

Re: December CTC
Another attempt today - 18:59.4, an improvement of 25 secs.
Felt strong enough, but have no aerobic fitness whatsoever, and being on medication which limits my HR doesn't help either.
done all my recent training on high df, dropped it to 200 for this CTC.
2000m - 7:31.8 spm 29
1500m - 5:59.3 spm 28
1000m - 3:44.3 spm 30

Last attempt on this CTC.
I analyzed the last attempt and started out harder which paid of and I pressed the time down by 10 seconds;
2000m 6.50.4 spm 31
1500m 5.07.4 spm 31
1000m 3.20.4 spm 32
500m 1.37.2 spm 33
Total 16.55.3

Re: December CTC
Well done and sorry everyone. h/d on the 1500m. Had another go this morning (I thought that we had until 12), but at 11:56 the new challenge was up. So the time posted was actually my 19:47.5 + 4 min rest, I had already posted the time before I realised it was against the last challenge. But including rest metres made the distance, i.e. less than the 4 min. rest extra (I needed some of the rest in the last min!).
For the record, I did:
07:57.6 2000 28 01:59.4 - Faster than yesterday's 7:58.5 and 2:01 target, driven on by Jo (present Mrs G), this isn't going to be pretty!
05:58.7 1500 28 01:59.5 - H/d at 600m in, Jo got me going again, nearly got back to pace from 2:00,8 avg. Counting strokes for most of remainder beat previous 600m counting PB!
03:57.6 1000 28 01:58.8 - Panting at start, didn't h/d but at one time 2:01 R27 was best I could manage. Picked up again to 1:56 finish through rating 30.
01:53.6 500 33 01:53.6 - Started at 1:56, finished with consistant 1:48s, so could have gone faster.
19:47.5 5000 29 01:58.7 - beat Stan as I promised , but gutted for it not to count
Pleased overall and good training. That was horrible. Now I know why I concentrate on distance goals . If I had been on time, this would have earned me a place in boat VII relegating Colin and the only effect on placings would have been putting Philip ashore and promoting the 8th boat one place.
Happy New Year All.

Re: December CTC
Well done on the last minute effort guys.
We were just one seat short of floating boat 9.
So it looks like I'll continue to call on all hands for January too.
I might even have to call Stan and his bat (said tounge in cheek as this the CTC is not compulsary of course)
