Re: Christmas Cheer
Always interested in a beer Graham , although a London venue may be restrictive for me as would a central venue for you.
However, London would be the logical choice I suppose.

Re: Christmas Cheer
Ann & I had the same thought after reading this thread.
Everyone can come to us. We have a local brewery with a great tasting room, did I mention free , and room at our house for people to stay. We even have three rowers, for those of you who somehow show misguided restraint at the brewery
Saratoga is nice in winter!

The only/best place for a booze up (sorry, few drinks/social get together) is Dublin! You know I'm right!

Re: Christmas Cheer
I'm thinking about venues in London.
I'm prepared to lay aside the rule about all drinks being within walking distance of my work (Mayfair) as most pubs where I work are poncy, pretentious tourist traps with rubbish beer.
I'm thinking therefore either a venue near a station into which trains from the Midlands and North reach (Kings Cross, Euston) or West (Paddington).
The alternative is central London, say Soho, Covent Garden, Bloomsbury etc
Any preferences?
Also I'm thinking about being a bit cheeky and starting early so that we can eat as well. Say 6pm/6:30pm

Bl**dy heck. Where was that? The Four Seasons? I know prices can be high in Dublin, but those kind of prices are usually only seen in the most expensive hotels and in nightclubs after midnight.Wolfmiester wrote:Colin, it breaks your heart (it broke mine anyway).colin bradley wrote:What !!!!!! is the black stuff a bit pricey there then?

No, it was just one of the pubs in Temple bar, and not untypical that year (another was 9e). Just ripping off the visitors.
Anyway, back on track. Good luck with arranging an evening Graham.

Re: Christmas Cheer
This thread seems to have gone off track. Accepting that it makes more sense for me to travel to the UK rather than all of you traveling over here (even if it would be more fun, albeit more expensive), I'd definitely be up for a Christmas get together. London would suit me fine as I have two sisters in law living there and I could bring her indoors with me and leave her to natter with her sisters while I bore you all with details of how I have overcome my crap technique (thanks Strider ) to set several new PBs this season.
Seriously though, is anyone up for this?

Re: Christmas Cheer
Thanks Graham. A Saturday would probably be better as I would probably fly over on Friday night and stay until Sunday. All depends on when suits my wife and her sisters, but if you can find a weekend that suits other Free Spirits, I'll do my best to make it over.
Cheers

A saturday? Hmmm.
I'll float that idea and see what reaction we get.
Any chance of flying Friday afternoon or going back Tuesday?

If I'm around I'll be right up for it. There has to be a few people left on the planet I haven't flashed my tattoo to (Reet can be such a kill-joy sometimes)
Talking of the better half she is filling in the diary over and up to Christmas like a demon at the moment so my days are dwindling fast and with the shift work as well.
Be nice to catch up - how many years was it webberg when we all met last time?? (from why i can recall you, me, TWP, Mike C and the other guy who name completely eludes me!!)

I think Pete that it was John Glynn who was over from Ireland on a course, had a beer with us and ended up sleeping on Mike's floor.
I'm looking at venues now.

Ah happy days. I'll do my best to make it to a London meet up and catch up with some old friends.

He won bronze in 6:04 at BIRC a couple of years ago in a very memorable performance. After that he seemed to get more heavily involved in on the water stuff which I assume he is still doing. We are all hoping he will return to the erg one day.Mike Channin wrote:
