CTC for Sep 2006: 4k unrestricted (chosen by us!)

Post by Mike Channin »

:D :D :D :D :D :D

A great start to the CTC already for the Free Spirits - we're 3/5ths of the way to getting our first boat floated already!

Great participation last month too - we got 11 boats floated in the end, and we're on the way up the Team Leaderboard.

So a big well done to all who participated - same again please!

Just checked the CTC and we have 3 boats ready to float, except for missing a Lwt.

What we need is a charge of the light(weights) brigade!

Seriously, though. Where are the lightweights???? Come on - we need you!!!

Had to have a go early

Post by Derrylad »

After 5 cigarettes ( comptemplating whether I should have a crack or not ) I decided to jump on the rower, no TV and just concentrate on the job. Started off at 1:40 - then to 1:43 then started to pull for all I had for the last 2k ( always hold something in reserve ). Ended up with a time of 13:30.4 ( gobsmacked ). Now I think I shall attempt one every other day to see If I can improve.

Rob ( very chuffed - and puffed - just gonna have a smoke to celebrate )

PS. If anyone want the PM3 file just email me and I will send it to you in MDI format.

I did a 5K this morning before I heard that there was a 4k challenge this month.

What's the protocol on this? Can I post my time for the first 4k of this morning's row, or does it have to be a "dedicated" 4k.

I know you didnt mean that Paul - but you raise a good point. These rows need to be done from a standing start so only the first 4k from a longer piece can be used.

Did my first 4k for the CTC at 6:30 this morning and was very happy with a 15:20, that was until I read other times! Think I can squeeze some more time out with an evening row so will give it a go later this week.

I'm in Free Spirits I !!!!!!!!!

Post by plummy »

I was hoping for at least a 1:58 split for the 4k but managed a 1:55.7 and to be honest I think i could have started a little faster and kept the pace up so could get 15:20 (maybe 15:15 if I really want some pain). Legs were not bad at all could have done some more meters but time didn't allow.
Nevertheless, I very pleased with my first (albeit brief I'm sure) seat in Boat 1.

Managed a 14:12.4 which has squeezed my big Green (sore) butt into Boat 2 (for the short term). :D
Also on this row I set my very own personal best and topped my HR out at 203!!! Thought it was going to explode. Never again. Feel absolutely drained.

Fantastic rowing from everyone, especially you jainser!!!

I've now been demoted to boat 3!!! Not having that - time to get back on the machine again!!!

Keep it up.

(And we still need Lwts to float boats 3, 4 and 5)

Did a 4000m instead of my 2 x 9' AT on the concept 2 2000m programme.

I raced off at 1:45, got my heart rate to 168 and held it for the first 2000m with the split slipping to 1:53.9. I then tried to up the pace and pulled 14:52.0 (1:51.5 split). I squeaked in to Free Spirits II ahead of Petr Olivia. Sorry Petr.

Well done Thomas! Now you've beaten me on this one as well, and doing the same plan (2k fast and then hang on).

Does this mean you managed to go sub 7 on the way???? Check your splits and see.

But Thomas is never ahead of me on distances !

Post by ReducingFB »

Home from work, felt a bit stuff but decided to have a go at the 4k. Got under 15 mins, but may be a bit more there - go online and find Thomas is ahead of me.

This is no good, this kid is getting ahead of me. Must work on my retaliation

Looking good Thomas, all those metres are starting to produce results. I'm working on the shorter stuff at the moment - need to do some catching up!

Mike - none of it was anything like sub-7! I went hard UNTIL my HR got to AT (168) which took about 2 minutes, then settled on 168 for the rest of the 2000m and let the split average catch up with 1:51 (I reckoned that 2 x 7:25 for 2000m was a reasonable plan given I was not going balls to the wall). I then hung on to 1:51 as best I could whilst maintaining the spirit of an AT piece. Does that make sense?

Alistair - it is all working - lungs are getting better (still a little bubbly) but mass down to 19st 2lb from 20st 7lb (19lb more for our US cousins) at the start of July when I joined Free Spirits. :D

Stan - 5km is the ONLY PB I have not had a pop at since joining Free Spirits. I reckon I could anihilate it (maybe 18:45?), but don't want to "blow" my C2 2000m BIRC programme.

Went to the gym tonight hoping to get into Free Spirits II. Did 14:52.8 then found that Thomas had posted 14:52.0 just ahead of me. Grr...

On a positive note, my shoulder is no longer troubling me and I can now start working my way back towards where I was before I got injured. Now, if only I can stay off the Mars Bars....

Ok. Have now redeemed myself slightly with a 14:16.3 tonight (actually done on the way to a 5k season's best of 17:48.9)

Will have another go later in the month, and do a proper sprint finish and see if I can sneak back into Boat 1. Not hopeful on this right now, but you can always hope...

Oh and well done to all those in boat 1 - currently sitting top of the leaderboard by nearly 10 seconds!!!

Now where are those lwts????
