Re: WELCOME to New Members
Hi
How do I join?
I have had my Concept 2 for about 6 months now. I am 45 years old, and at 13 stone, fall into the heavyweight category.
I am really getting into using the rower now, and get my motivation from the Concept online rankings.
My PB for my preferred distance of 2k is 7.27.8. which puts me at position 273.
Look forward to joining in with any challenges from the free spirits team.
Alan

Re: WELCOME to New Members
Hi Alan
You're very welcome to Free Spirits. You'll find lots of support and encouragement here and enough challenges to keep you really busy. That's a very respectable 2k, but expect it to come tumbling down if you take part in all the challenges.
To join Free Spirits, you need to edit your Concept 2 profile to show Free Spirits as your affiliation.

Welcome Chris! Turning 40 and needing to lose weight seems to bring out the rower in many of us.

Re: WELCOME to New Members
Hi everybody
I just joined a week ago and thought I should introduce myself.
I am 49 year old, married and live with my wife Brit in Sandnes on the westcoast of Norway.
I have been dedicated to sports my whole life. Started out as a kid with swimming, went over to powerlifting when I was a teenager and started bicycle racing in my 40thies.
I had never seen a rowing machine before the gym I have training in for years bought one 4 years ago. I tried it and found that this was a good variation from boring spinning lessons. Gradualy I have been focusing more and more on the rowing and now I am planning to test myself by participating in the BIRC 2012, hope to some of you there
Regards

Re: WELCOME to New Members
Hi Morten
Thanks for posting here. Good luck with your preparation for BIRC.
You should look at following one of the 2k training programs. You will find discussion threads for C2's Interactive Program, the Pete Plan and the Wolverine Plan in the Training and Racing Forum.
There are lots of other events you can take part in, including the CTC, the Nonathlon and the January Team Challenge. Some of our members (me included) find these very good at maintaining motivation, other members prefer to just do their own thing. It's entirely up to you whether or not you want to take part in these events.
Best wishes
Paul V

Re: WELCOME to New Members
Welcome Morten
Anyone who has been to BIRC and CRASH-B will confirm that both events are a lot of fun and well worth the trip. Be sure to check in on the forum threads for those events since we normally arrange to have a team dinner before and/or after each event. Someone on the team will undoubtedly volunteer to be your coxswain if you don't have one.

Hi Morten, and welcome.
Will you be in the new age group by the time BIRC comes around?

Hi guys and girls, new member here. I'm 44 and I bought a used C2 a few months ago but never quite got into it. Now that I'm on vacation trying to develop the habit to row often enough. I live in Boston therefore hope to stop by BIRC on February and maybe meet some of you in person.

I meant WRIC in Boston, MA not England. I should have thought there would be one in England.

Re: WELCOME to New Members
CRASH-B is a blast, so make the pilgrimage if you can. The smaller regional events are also good fun.
Yes, Colin, I forgot that there are no coxswains at BIRC.
