Re: WELCOME to New Members
Greetings!
I erged a bit a few years ago, but now I am getting serious with my new model D. This team/board seems like a pretty cool place to hang out... plenty of useful comments mixed with humor, and loads of group-support to help during those times when inspiration is hard to find.
I think I'll like it here.
30 years ago, I raced bicycles, but haven't done much since. I am currently working through one of the training programs suggested by Concept2 on their website to build fitness and lose weight. After things settle down, I'd like to start training for a marathon... I might be ready by next June or July. (I've always like endurance training much more than speed... which is why I was never any good at bicycle racing )

Welcome aboard zootMutant and glad you have joined the Free Spirits. You will find lots of motivation on the forum (as well as quite a bit of humor ). If you are into endurance we have several amazing athletes who have done 100k's and 24 hour events that still make my mind spin. All the best....Jim Kathios

Welcome ZootMutant (love the name) - any questions re your goals, feel free to post them on here, it's all friendly.
Where are you from? - feel free to fill in some details (you may have a FS close neighbour). No obligation of course.
Good luck in chasing down your goal of a marathon - beware, they hurt, but they are an awesome personal achievement.

Re: WELCOME to New Members
Thanks for the kind welcome, everybody!
Before I contribute to the "About Me" - A Place to Introduce Yourself thread, I thought I should check and see how much of the information I post is accessible to web-bots? Anybody know? Is everything collected and stuffed into some Google database? Or is this information accessible only to members? Just curious.
And again, thanks for making me feel welcome.

Re: WELCOME to New Members
I think that's a question for one of our resident techies (and I'm not one of them). If you look at previous posts from new members, it gives a flavour on the sort of info people give out.
As said above, there's absolutely no obligation to say anything but sometimes it's nice to know at least age/weight category (to see who's life may have just got more difficult) and maybe which continent/country/state etc

Re: WELCOME to New Members
Hi Zoomutant (are you ok with us calling you that or do you have a normal name you would prefer? ). The "panel" thread can only be seen by registered members of this site, although that may not necessarily make it foolproof. I think Thomas WP is probably the best person to ask regarding security concerns as he runs the site. Good luck with whatever your erging goals are.

Again, thanks for the warm welcome. FYI, I added a quick bio on the "panel."
And thanks for the vote of confidence, plummy, but I think it will be a while before I make anybody's life more difficult.

Re: WELCOME to New Members
Hi All
Thought I'd say hello as I've picked up some useful links and info from the forum, thanks to those helpful regular contributors with know-how .
I'm a 27 year old heavyweight (about 105kg -194cm), rowed as a novice for a season at uni, but never actually enjoyed being in a boat - the masochist in me just liked the training.
I'm training for the BIRC (in my home town), started the pete plan about 3 weeks ago, and have just beaten my previous PB (from 2006) with a 6.37 2k last weds, so feeling quite pleased, but am ambitious to train hard for quite a lot better in November.
Cheers

Welcome to FS Phil.
At 27 yrs old, 1.97m tall, 105kg and a 6:37 2k after 3 weeks, I suspect that you'll do quite well at BIRC (and thereafter)

Good choice Phil welcome to the mad house.
Re: WELCOME to New Members
Thanks for the warm welcome, it would be exaggerating to say I've only been training for 3 weeks in total, I've was doing weights and bits of interval training (including on the erg) for a good while before starting the Pete Plan. Lower 6.20s is definitely my goal for BIRC. Will have a look at the Pete Plan thread.

Re: WELCOME to New Members
Newbie here...no great times to shout about, but I seem to the only Free Spirit rowing in Oman, so there's something for you.
Been rowing properly since May 2009, had a decent first season but need a little push now and then. I was told I got bonus metres just for signing up, so looking forward to those.
Love the Metre Board btw - this is going to help.
Cheers to all...
