Well, temporarily overtook Rita again today - a situation she will no doubt rectify overnight
Going to be forced to take Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday off due to a business trip to Ireland

Not really the meter board, but I notice that with my 5000m pb today I am one place ahead of a certain "Pete Jain" in 30-39 year old heavyweights on Concept 2's rankings :D

Good morning Stan (and other FS). I did 16 K on Saturday night, and I'll put in at least 23K on football Sunday, New Orleans/Carolina seems to be the pick of the early games, and New England/Cincinnati from the late afternoon games. So there's a Sunday challenge for you  .

Have a good trip to Ireland. You will soon have 13 days to make up the distance and add a good buffer. When in Vegas, be sure to place some goofy Super Bowl wagers (but don't bet on the Detriot Lions or Arizona Cardinals :) )

A big...fat 0 metres today. And yesterday.

totally peeved.

Find myself here at work at 9pm on a sunday night seriously considering if it is feasible to break into the locked work gym in the basement just to belt out a 5k on the rower there.

pro - if i do that i'll jump about 4 places on the board (there's a gaggle of sitting ducks just ahead of me)

anti - i will be sacked for lunacy.

however, moving from a week of nightshifts to day shifts as of tomorrow. starting at 10am.

if i get in at say, 7.30am i could belt out 15k, maybe even 20k and get a good long shower before i am back at the desk.

this. is. not. rational. behaviour.

They pop in to my head at the most unlikely times. Often when rowing when I am not thinking about them.

My aim in "Free Spirits Fun" is to have challenges that anyone can compete in (within reason). Not rowing at all is something most of the world do really well in.

Mr Pope, have you looked at the "Free Spirits Effect" thread?

Many of us have found a common link in the lunacy of joining this team. You'll find that apart from the blisters, early morning starts, bleeding from the eyes and your wife/partner trying to have you certified - we all have nothing in common!

Try out the uphill battle in ELM if you are doing a 5k. Very simple, each 1k split has to be quicker than the last.

Going to introduce a downhill as well where the object is to go slower each 1k but still post within say 10% of your best time. Good exercise in pace control.

Welcome

seems i have found my spiritual home then! :)

by the way did open the second bottle last night but i also managed the 10k this morning, sweating like a paediatrician in Portsmouth!

First time back in my own gym rather than the work gym in nearly two months (on account of having a 6 week old ankle biter).

Difficult to believe all these people really need to be there at 6.30am in the morning.

5k- 21.20
2k - 9.03
3k - 12.26.5

i couldn't get away with another 10k this evening could I?

Hey people, back on the internerd after a short break but not the ergo.

Having a fat week and only done two sessions. Still Fiona is out tonight and that might give me a chance to do something. Not sure if this might be a slow 20k ish or a try at a quick 10k and get a jump on you guys in the Nonathlon challenge.

Problem is that this is the last quarter of the year which is when a) us bankers "earn" our bonus and b) corporate hostility season breaks out.

Consequently didn't get home until gone midnight Tuesday and was out clay shooting until 3pm yesterday and then back to the office. Got home at 9pm - bath - one large glass of very strong Rioja Rose - bed and in this morning at just after 7pm.

Feeling a little jaded but I'll just have to show all you youngsters how it's done.

(This is a cue for Bangers to join in and shame us all).

There is a real battle going on the metre board around 9th to 14th.
I love it :D :D
(Just wish the better half (and now even the kids!) did as well)

"Your not going on the rower again are you Daddy?"
"...but you went on the rower this morning"
"How long are you going on it for now?"
"OK, I'll take the kids swimming AGAIN!"

etc etc etc

Glad someone's enjoying the battle between 9th and 16th on the meter board, Mr Ogre. Am in the middle of it, and keep gaining ground and then falling back again.

Now have three whole days away from the machine (and to recover from tonight's HM PB) so expect to be back to 16th by Monday...

Trying to get into the top 20 - currently 21st.
Without the distraction of BIRC have been able to clock up some long slow distance and hope to join the 9th-16th fray by year end.

BTW, well done on your HM PB Mike -that is an awesome time!

AS predicted, back from 3 days off to find I'm back down to 15th again. Oh well.

Thanks, Paul. Was _rather_ happy with the time. Never thought I'd manage something like that. Problem is, makes all my other PBs look a bit soft now...

Looks promising for the nonathlon challenge though - you are probably capable of about 2:45 for the FM which is really shifting.

BTW, am up to 19th on the Metre Board after a few hard weeks.

30k this morning in 2 hours 9 min.

Which didn't even make a dent in the metres Scott and Derrylad put on over the weekend.

Grrrrrrr.....!!!

And Jainser is catching up too...!

Well it was a lot more than I did over the weekend, so there's a good side to everything.

Have just noticed I am only 50k from 8 million lifetime meters. So that'll be done this week! (The Free Spirits effect strikes again)

I probably won't post very often, but let me say that the constant motivation of having a bunch of folks right up my tail helps me get through the many early mornings and later evenings where I need to head out to my garage and slog away. Free Spirits is really a wonderful team of folks who inspire, support, and motivate daily.

I know that Robert is back on track to pass and Paul is just jockeying around waiting for that lapse on my part. In the end, I've settled on seeing if I can maintain on page 1 of the C2 meter board for the year. If I can do that, then Free Spirits will have carried me a long way.

Mr shill

Very good to hear from you.

Don't be shy on the board. There are some nutters here who set silly challenges or row huge distances, but most of us are sensible really.

You obviously ahve some real competition around you but let me say that those of us further down the table are in awe of you millionaires and patiently waiting to reach that level.

Happy erging.
