Seasonal PBs

Post by mash »

Took 30 seconds off my 10k seasonal PB last night. Now 41:26.6!!

Went off a bit too quickly as I reckon I could have done better if I'd paced myself more but happy and will try beating it again soon.

Season's best for the marathon. 42,195m in 2:58:31.6. Av 2:06.9.

Did the whole thing in recovery HR zone (or UT2) - Average HR 140.

Only took one drink stop at 2 hours in.

First time I've ever done one of these and not really suffered badly.

Hi everybody
After a laydown I'm climbing again. (hopefully)
Did 5:17 last week (seasons best for me). Still feels the "tennis arm", but it's better now.
However my shape has gone dramatically down so I don't know if I can reach my former record of 5:05.4 before euro champ in Copenhagen 3. Of December.
Strange: This summer when I rowed every day my shape went away? I also forgot to keep doing 1K and 2K going for better times on 5 and 6K.
I was forgetting to do other kinds of training in that period and that could also be a part of the explanation. When I join C2 rowing I was doing 20 hokei in a row (2 min a piece with a 30 sec. pause between=1 hour (Hokei is like Kata in karate but Hokei being more gymnastic with volts and such)) Pretty hard training I can asure you. That's why, I was able to sit down and do 3:04.8 first time I did 1K.
Knowing this I feel pretty mad at myself. :x
I will do everything to get back and get ahead again.
regards
Mikkel

I hadn't seen this thread before today - theoretically speaking all my posts on the All-time PB's thread should be on this thread instead.
Effectively I did not row at all between 2001 and late last year but the times I set in 2000 and 2001 were much quicker than those that I am currently doing - however those early times were set at sea-level when I was 5 years younger before heart and circulatory illnesses so I have effectively discounted them altogether.
BTW Mike, if you look at the C2 rankings for 2002 you might well be horrified to see I was actually ranked above you in the 60 min!

Thought I would resurrect this thread since I just missed my 5k pb today by about 10 seconds but it was still a good row and 15 seconds faster than I had done this season. Time 19:28.9. Legs felt a bit heavy after last night but very pleased with my breathing. Off for a rest now and await the inevitable bout of flu I will get next Friday

Nicely resurrected Stan - I was thinking of starting a thread on this subject as I had forgotten there had even been one and PB's are just wishful thinking right now.

Recent season's bests (all within the last 2 weeks) of:

7782 for the 30 mins (PB 7839)
38:51.7 for the 10k (PB of 38:45.3)
14924 for the 60 mins (PB of 15167)

Remarkably close to my SBs of 7765, 38:55.9 and 14952 (before I beat it this week).

Stan - you may be right. I've a completely free day today (wifey away) so it's been rowing, soon the GB Grand Prix and then the Tennis. With a completely free mind (nothing else to worry about) I've just done a 15127m for 60 Mins \:D/ - BIG seasons best and only 40m off a PB (and that was with a very short stop for a glug of lucozade)

Paul - you are right re very close seasons bests - consider the 60 min challenge gauntlet thrown at your feet

You're on David

And as you're currently slightly ahead over 30 minutes and 10k, they will be my next targets.

Maybe we spur each other on to new PBs (not just SBs).

Nice row Plummy - you are back with a vengeance. I hope this is making you happier about rowing. I certainly feel my improving form is making rowing more enjoyable. There is nothing worse than struggling to get times you know you could have annihilated not that long ago.
Anyway I just got back from a seasons best 10k of 40:13.9. Lost concentration a bit betweeen 6k and 8k but still pretty pleased. Just a matter of time before I go sub 40 again.

Well done all the SB's.

Got a (weak) SB of 1:30;40 yesterday for the HM doing 2:12+ average for the first half and 2:03 for the second half at low(for me) SPM of 27 - feel confident that I am capable of sub-1:27:00 when I give it a full go.

Paul V,
Just realised you are 6'1" and 124kg - is this a fair fight?

Stan,
Thanks - Nice 10k - just stay in "the zone" and sub 40 mins will be at your feet

Quite a lot of the 124K was fat. I managed to get down to 92k early last year, but I'm back up to around 108k at present and a lot slower than I was when I was 92k.

The weight and height are definite advantages in my favour. On the other hand, I'm eleven years older than you, so that probably evens things out a bit.

I had a look at our nonathlon scores and they're also quite close for the three distances, so I figure it's about right. Anyway, as long as we spur each other on, that's what really matters.

You're still showing up on nonathlon as 43. Have you tried updating your profile to see if it will accept the change?

I checked with the Nonathlon rules re age and was advised that the Nonathlon age is set as your age as of May 1st 2007 and runs for the year until May 1st 2008. As I turned 44 on May the 8th I am still officially 43 until May 2008 :P :P :P

I like this rule!

Did a 30 minute piece in the gym yesterday which for me was very unusual as I have a machine at home.

The drag on the machine was just about 130 at setting 10! My machine at that setting rates around 190.

Anyway set off and was getting low rates (for me) immediately.

Finished with just over 7k (a season PB) but am very sceptical about the result. Have posted it anyway

Anyway young lady next to me roughly same build as our own JR was splitting around 2:28/30 but with an SPM of over 55!!!!!

Did try to tell her that she would hurt herself unless she changed her technique (or lack thereof) and that a slower stroke with more leg drive would make her go quicker. She looked at me as though I was stuck to the bottom of her shoe and stomped off!

Some people are determined to make themselves look stupid no matter what you do!

I usually just let people get on with making themselves look silly - you never know how well meaning advice is going to be received.

One of our gyms machines had a df of 115 on damper 8 on Friday and it had a horrible grating feeling. Two of the others had wobbly seats. Three of them had faulty footstraps. I made a few comments to the staff. Lo and behold they cleaned up the machine I usually row on (the only one fitted with a pm3) and promised to do the rest as well. "My machine" now has a df of 215 on damper 10.

Better still, apparantly all the cardio equipment including the rowers will be replaced between April and June next year. Not sure I can take credit for that decision but I am pretty pleased to hear it.

The grating sound can be attibuted to various tender body parts of instructors being wedged between the seat rollers and the monorail WHEN THEY REFUSE TO CLEAN OUR MACHINES!!

It's OK - I'm calm now.
Keep taking the tablets.
An Erg with a DF of 90 on setting 10 is OK - really it is! :-({|=

LOl Mr Webberg-you mean the young lady next to you was a size 6 the same as me dont you LOL!

I wld receive advice happily and gratefully and NEVER stomp anywhere! she will learn the hard way!

my nice clean new erg is lovely but when rowing staring at the garden or TV I tend to drift away and not pull my best! I need to be in the gym to show my true colours it seems! :?

Hi everybody

Long time no see!

I have lost the bug after my injury had gone March 2007 .

My arm is allright now but I am not yet in shape and rowing seems boring at the moment.

I have however draged myself to some CTC challenges and did make some good times. 500m 1:27.3. on 0.5K But I feel more tired now than last year.

Anyway I run 6K everyday now and "love" it? Didn't do that before? This have made my condition better to cope with the rowing.
Stil can't row 10K without getting bored and therefore I will not try to get faster on those distances

My best efford is thoug 666m (1:58.1 on CTC last month. But the verification code didn't work?) Did a rather time good I think placing myself in 33 position, taking the hole situation into count. But I'm not quite back yet I think. I really need 3:00 on 1K and 6:20 on 2K ( did 3:04.8 and 6:29.7 at one point lst year) Did 3:12.8 on 1K this spring so I'm not far off, but I lost rowing time from october till march, so I just have to work on and on.....again!

Good to hear from you Mikkel. Hope the recovery goes well for you. I think you have put your finger on the problem a few of us have had a various stages this year. When you are not performing as well as you could do previously, the workout becomes boring and demotivating. The only way to deal with it is to just grit your teeth and get on with it. Once the form comes back, so does the enjoyment.

Did my last hard session before Evesham and decided to do a fast 2k but without intending to kill myself trying to get a pb. Managed 7:24.2 which seemed well inside what I felt capable of - sub 7:20 is definitely a possibility. A seasons best by about 15 seconds.
A short gentle session tomorrow and that will be all until Saturday.
