Oops, you're right Dave. I mixed it up with Bill's 500m, but a great row nevertheless!

New SB today for the 10k by 10.3 seconds. Managed 39:13.0 and 9 negative splits (one was identical to the previous one so not quite perfection).
Full house on Rowpro was definitely a help.

Re: Anyone had any SEASON's bests recently?
I got a funny feeling I may be able to improve my SB for the HM after my 10k the other day and by good luck there was one set up on Rowpro at 2:00pm (perfect for me). Started at around 2:05 pace and very very slow increased the pace. Rowpro crashed on me for the first time in a while so about 17k was entirely solo but for my PM screen.
Result after much huffing and puffing was 1:26:12.8 (1 minute, 15.3 seconds off my previous best this season)

Last night's 500m lacticfest took 1.9 seconds off my previous best (was 1:39.9, now 1:38.0) for the season (and I think added about 17 nonathlon points too). I can still feel that in my legs this morning!!

Re: Anyone had any SEASON's bests recently?
Tried a 2K in a controlled fashion, which means under S/R 30 for me. Only pushed the last 400m to bring average s/r up to 30.
Result : 7m 12.5s,
Which is a S/B by 3 secs, but felt much easier than any time previously. Hopefully I will get under 7m 10s next time. Thought I might as well rank this one and came in about 205th! This compares with top 30 when I used to do it, so much work to do. Target is to try to break 7 mins again this calendar year. I have done a sub 3m 20s 1K, and a sub 5m 45s mile this season , so theoretically it is on if I race someone, but we all know what the extra 391m does to your legs!

First 10k for ages.
39m 59.5s Rate 22 (bit of a Wolverine session)

Re: Anyone had any SEASON's bests recently?
Another 2K this morning. Probably the most controlled 2K I have rowed for more than 2 years
Result was season' s best by 1.5s
7m 11s , R31
500m Splits were most pleasing part:
48.1, R30, just following pace boat at 1m 48s pace
48.1, R30, same
48.1, R30, same
46.7, R34, same until 200m out then accelerated
Hurt at end but mostly comfortable. Need someone to race really sitting next to me. Big push next time to get back under 7m 10s.

Re: Anyone had any SEASON's bests recently?
Thank you Millie,
Of course my PBs mostly set in 2008 were much quicker, so a long way to go. I need to get my details up in my profile, keep forgetting.
A few as follows:
100m 15.5s
200m 31.4s
300m 48.1s
400m 1m 6.1s
500m 1m 24.2s
mile (1609m) 5m 14.2s
2K 6m 41.2s
etc
up to
21097m 1hr 20m 52.2s
NO MARATHON.........yet!

Re: Anyone had any SEASON's bests recently?
Tuesday is aerobic day for me, so no weights. At the moment I am doing a 30 min row, relatively low rate, and then immediately (literally no rest) a 30 min lifecycle ride with my heart rate up in the 150 - 160 range most of the time ( last 5 mins up over 170). I try to increase the combined distance each week.
Anyway this week my row ended up as a SB by 30m
7605m, 1m 58.3s pace a at R25 ( only really pushed last 5 mins when got down into the 1m 45s range)
The cycle was 20.2 Kilometres in 30 mins (to do this you have to rev around 130/min). Interestingly the 10 min splits for this were 6.4k/6.8k/7k, which shows that at first I was still getting over the row
So my total distance this week was 27.8K in 1 hour of exercise, which is also a SB for me. (I have done nearly 42k on the bike in 1 hour before but that was when I couldn't row, before my back was fixed).
Legs are tired now though!!!!!!

Re: Anyone had any SEASON's bests recently?
42k in one hour on a bike! that is TDF mean speed. Massive. I cruise at 22k. But I like it. It won't hurt as much if I fall off...
Hour of Power SB for me today. At last I finished one. 15,080m and my best since 2008. I hate long rows and don't do them much. But I had a quiet day at work today and my heart rate hit 170 20 minutes later than my last attempt. I finished with a new SB maxHR of 189, which I think makes me 31 years old on the 220-age estimate

Great stuff Thomas - you must have been going for it in that last interval!! Especially well done for having conquered the demons, and also made such a great step forwards.

Re: Anyone had any SEASON's bests recently?
First HM for 3.5 years today. Didn't decide to do it until I sat down at the machine.
RESULT was therefore a SB:
21097m : 1 hour 27min 28.9s, DF 105, R25
2K splits started at 2m 6.xs then I negative split until 20 K down to 2m 0.xs,
Last 1097m was at 1m 55.xs pace, still rating 26.
This is approx 6m 30s slower than my PB set in 2008, but I am pleased
Deliberately rowed this conservatively as we all will have experienced the uncertainty of HM rowing and how you can blow up big style if you start too fast.
Also used a low DF (105) as I have been rowing pretty reasonable pace anyway without upping the DF ( I rowed the CTC 920m at DF 110). I figure if my stroke is efficient and my rhythm consistent, the pace will be there, because the power comes from being technically good with each stroke. Also this has the effect of energy conservation and reduced tension.
Although I am a bit stiff now (expected), I felt no strain or pressure during the row, and my breathing was very comfortable all the way, including the last 1K, all of which is very important. Wait and see what the effect is after a sleep!

Sounds like a good confidence builder Gary in view of the fact it felt so easy. Next time you know you will be able to push it a bit harder.
