PLEASE VOTE: Kit
The topic of kit has come up more than once in the forum.
First came the keeping it simple thread which suggested keep the olive, orange and white from the forum. Then came the Spirit logo by JanetS. There are several of us going to BIRC, possibly as Free Spirits racing? And also the The T-shirt thread where I mentioned the GB kit makers, Godfrey.
I have emailed Godfrey and they say making the embroidery for the logo (from this web site) and the ghost would be around £50 one-off charge. The donations to the site so far would cover this easily and we'd still have enough for web hosting for a long while. The logo would go to a designer to be fitted in to "embroidery style" (apparently the globe wouldn't work as is) and the text (as per the T-shirt) would be just the same.
Assuming that the colours stay as suggested, and the £50 is OK, godfrey will set up our own micro site (see this example from Team Oarsome) and we can just buy what we want through them. There is no minimum purchase - they just make the kit on demand.
All we would then need to do is choose the design of the kit. There is a large choice. I have mocked up some examples for all-in-ones, allthough I suspect the prospect of me squeezing back in to an all-in-one for the first time in 15 years is a fairly scary one and it would be T-shirt and shorts for me. You can see loads of potential patterns on the godfrey web site.
So, can of worms officially opened. I know people will just LOVE to comment. One request though. I would like to be rowing in my kit at BIRC 2006, so I guess we will need to come to some sort of consensus pretty soon to allow for them to set up the site and us to order it.
And finally, this is the simplified ghost logo that could be on the kit too.

I like kit A but no real strong feelings. Like Thomas I would stick to the t shirt. Dont have the body for the all in one
Not too keen on the Free Spirits Racing idea - too similar to Taff Attack Racing ( not being derogatory to TAR here - just think the idea of adding "Racing" has now been done ).

Are they upside down.
I have a feeling I'm not quite the same shape as the designs on offer. Same vital statistics as when I was in my twenties ...... just in a different order!
Thomas, perhaps you can add an option to the poll for the likes of us. "Will stick to T-shirt and shorts!".... out of necessity!

I went for Kit B, I like the ghost image, I like the colour scheme .
I think it's a good idea to fund the 50 from the website excess money .
I also think t-shirts are the better option at the start anyways . I imagine they would be cheaper and also more likly to fit .
I'm not sure what "all in one" size I'd be, I'm not even sure what t-shirt size I'd be (either XXL or XXXL) (yes I'm fully aware I'm useless )

T Shirt only for me please.
Given that a) I will not be seen in public racing and therefore don't really need to look flash and b) I would look like a complete berk in lyrca and c) I tend to sweat like a ... very sweaty thing.. and could only wear it once before washing, I'll go for the simple option.
Like the colours though.

As the majority of us will never race in public, I think that something more casual where we can display team unity may be more in order? My vote is for a team fleece pullover or vest. I sweat so much that I'd never wear my "kit" anyway. But I'd love to show my colors over here with a 3 season fleece.

OK, here's my thoughts on this.
Dark Green sounds truly horrible. Why can't we use the following as our team colours:
Some mid-blue, pretty much like the site already uses.
Orange - contrast Colour
Black - Spare background colour and good for highlighting white ghosts.
Been having a look through the team kit pages on Godfrey, and even teams with a strong main colour often have most of their kit in black with the main colour as the contrast colour. (See St. Catherines, Cambridge to see what I mean). And of course black is also very slimming!
I can't see many orders going in for all-in-ones. Suspect we're looking at t-shirts, fleeces and maybe something as racy as shorts.
So my vote is for kit similar to St Cat's, using black as main background mostly, but using mid blue and orange (and possibly also white) as contrast piping colours. For two colour items (like their gilet) we could use the blue and the black.
Oh, and as far as the Free Spirits Racing thing goes - that was my suggestion, and the point was to show that _some_ of the Free Spirits do race, but that it's not the main point of the team (unlike a lot of the other IRCs). The idea was to call it Free Spirits Racing so that it makes it obvious as to what it's about. (The Taff Attack Racing thing was for entirely different reasons and is related to divisive and not inclusive reasons...)
I thought we'd probably also get some humourous t-shirts done at some point too (for example, something along the line of Ghostbusters -> Ergbusters with appropriate humourous graphics modifications). Soon as I can locate our graphic designer, I'll try and get some mock-ups done.
Back to original subject though - we need to decide fairly soon if we're going to have kit for the indoor racing season...

I disagree with you about green. A green all in one is probably too much, but as a top it is fine. And we can do the usual compromise and have two types of shirt (several clubs have this - I checked).
I think that we should have the following:
I think that we should have the following:
- M/F black shorts with "Free Spirits rowing" (no ghost)
- M/F black shorts with no logo at all
- Dark green cotton T-shirts with embroidered ghost logo
- Dark green "performance" T with orange/white bands over shoulders (home kit)
- White "performance" T with orange/green bands over shoulders (away kit)
- Green fleece jacket with ghost logo.
- I like the towell too!

I like the listing from TW-P. It seems to cover all eventualities.
Plus if we decided on all-in-one as well I'd go for C (side stripes - so slimming!) - but not a strong preference.
Agree re green vs blue as well. So much of my 'old' club(s) kit is blue - nice to be a bit different

Maybe it's just me, but I'm just not a fan of dark green...
I've done a fair bit of corporate branding and design work over the years, and dark green was always known as a 'difficult' colour to work with.
And dark green and orange was listed as clashing colours, and not to be used...
But it is each to their own.
I quite like the header on this site, which on my machine (which should be colour calibrated) looks like a petrol blue. This is the same colour used for the kit mockups.
We have a sort of pastel blue on the CTC.
So I suggested blue as it seemed to make sense, and looks ok with orange.
We really should do some appropriately coloured mockups so people can see how stuff will look.
Is anyone else going to express an opinion here???

Doesn't look like others are going to reply.
I agree we are light blue on CTC, and indeed we can change the colours on this site header if needed.
I don't have a massively strong opinion! I just want to get this started. If it drags on we'll have nothing for BIRC - a realistic target to have kit ordered and delivered.
So you reckon light blue, orange and white? (insert light blue for green in my post above)

I guess the exact shade of blue will depend on what Godfrey can provide.
Next stage would be to get some more mockups done.
Thomas - did you do the mockups yourself, or did Godfrey do them? I had a go at recolouring some of the kit from other teams with a provisional mid blue/orange colour scheme, but they were anti-aliased and the results weren't very good.

Compromise
OK, how about this. The blue is from Godfrey's site (look at design's 25, 31 etc).
It looks enough like the top of this page to keep the original idea of sticking with the site but is still blue! And I keep my orange.
Mike: I did it by copying the image and then just changing the palette. Nothing more difficult than that.
