Try this

Post by PSims »

Just do it the other way around as I suggested!

e.g. 8% weight loss, you post 92% as a TIME = 1 min 32 secs (92 seconds).

That way it will sort it correctly and attribute points right.

The distance based one you set up rounds to nearest metre so my 6.5% has become 7%.

I thought about that, but decided that it was getting too complex. Not everyone has the mathematical ability and I wanted to be inclusive :D

You don't teach low ability groups on a regular basis though. They are great, but find anything with numbers a challenge. I am very aware of the numerically challenged, so maybe I am oversensitive.

BUT - I agree that the time based way is superior even if it is more complicated mathematically, so I am going to find the time to make a javascript calculator that does the calculation for you.

That keeps it inculsive but also lets us have the "superior model".

I am going to post my 'score' on the ELM but just want to make sure that I am putting the right result in.

Weighed in at 16st 4lbs when I joined FS in July and this morning I have managed to come in at 14 st 8lbs. That's a total loss of 24lbs of my opening weight or 10.5% - this is what I will be entering unless anyone thinks I've done the calculation wrong.

Have to say that I would not have lost this weight without the challenge of the C2 and FS.

I work with low ability groups all day long.
Most of them have degrees!

Fortunately, I don't ROW with them....

Me too. That looks right and puts my 8.4% in the shade - a mighty impressive weight loss. Well done.

Thanks Thomas but you should still be very proud of your 8.4% loss. I am now nearly at the lowest weight I have been in years so don't expect much more loss very quickly.

Stuck on my weight!

Post by BorisZ »

I am stuck on my weight since quite a while already.
I dream of the day when I can pull a PB with 30kg less than now - actually putting more power into speed instead of accelerating belly blubber.
Thanks for all hints by previous posters with similar issues.
I rowed a lot more since joining the Free Sprits. I'll keep you updated on my attempts...

Boris,

I'm sure that things will all now click for you - they did for me once I joined FS. With the wide variety of challenges - trying to move up the metre board and the ELM - the information/hints/tips on the forum and my own competitiveness have all helped me to shed 30+lbs since July.

Good luck with some new PB's

I'm down to a stable (last 3 mornings) 20 stone (127 KG) for the first
time in a few years :) .

My two main changes have been
- an increase in the meters I row (rowing approx every second Saturday in addition to work days)
- a big ish reduction in red meat, I've worked it out and I'm now eating just over 500 grams of red meat less per week . This is about a 16% reduction on what I did eat (Yes I love cow in stab or mince form) . Note I'm also buying higher quality mince (less fat in it)

I'm not sure which is the main weight loss driver .
I was lossing about 1 to 2lbs each HM I rowed but I haven't rowed large meters in the last few weeks yet I'm still lossing weight (but at what seems like a slower rate) .

Ditto from this end of the world as well. I weighed myself this morning (haven't bothered for ages) and I was down to a light weight 17st 10lb. I was knocking around 18st for months.

I think this has been down to (like John) an increase in metres - at a semi fast pace - ie still being able to talk & play 'guess the animal' with my boy!!
...and more inportantly.....
Cutting down (dare I say almost cutting out) the beer. On the wine now (cunning plan Baldric!)
Food intake has pretty much stayed the same. Sloting in the odd Yorkie here and there and a doughnut at work on a Friday.

I know the above is obvious but I didn't think I drunk that much beer!!!

Like you guys the weight is slowly coming off. Increased metres and no (I repeat NO) chocolate helps.

Tell me though, when I was 18 or so, I could drink pints, usually cider or larger (sometimes mixed as "snake bite") and put on nothing at all.

Now I'm a shade older, I order a pint and my weight goes up immediately.

Is this something to do with metabolism?

Yes, it's down to a slower metabolism, but the rowing can reverse this. Mine is running in overdrive at the moment because of all the distance I've been covering.

The other trick to drinking pints as an 'older gentleman' (i.e. past 25) is not to eat on that evening. Saves all those calories you can then use for the beer. Obviously this isn't a great and balanced diet, but it works on the odd occasion. ;-)

But if I go out on the lash without eating first I fall over after a couple of pints, starting talking (even more) nonsence and make a complete tart of myself!!

and come on you have finish the night off with a large Ruby :D
